Mini eggs for Mother's Day.

I get a bag from my child. Who then asks to share them. No. Absolutely no. AIBU for a bit more thought? I don't like that I'm expected to share, they've gone off in a huff and my OH is also in a huff.

OP posts:

You are missing out on the absolute joy of your little children waking you up early so that you can open ‘your’ chocolate and they can eat it all 🤣 I loved it!

Spidey66 · 30/03/2025 10:56

Whatever happened to "it's the thought that counts?". And while I'm no expert, I don't expect many 6 year old to have much money. A bag of Mini Eggs is...what...£1.? Cheap yes but £1 is probably all their pocket money!!!

I think it's a lovely present.

Edited

The OPs husband should be buying the gift with the six year old being involved in choosing. The standards people hold for themselves on here makes me sad.
@LuckySantangelo35 couldnt agree more with all your posts . Emotional abuse indeed 🙄

CheeseyOnionPie · 30/03/2025 10:57

It’s unreasonable to have a bag of mini eggs anywhere near a 6 year old and not share.

That’s a core memory made for the poor kid.

Mumofnarnia · 30/03/2025 10:57

thisfilmisboring123 · 30/03/2025 10:54

Whilst I don’t agree with OP- I actually think it’s a wind up post, but emotionally abusive?
?

Come on… it’s not abusive to tell your kid they can’t have a mini egg they bought you. Ridiculous

fair enough my comment may have been OTT but for people to come on here and tell me to fuck off and claim I don’t know what abuse is when I’ve had abuse all my life is a bit disgusting really.

£1!!! You must be joking!

They’re a rip off - most overrated chocolate ever

Yabu really op. Why's your oh in a huff too?

Oh is seeing and believing who op is

GrannyGoggles · 30/03/2025 10:56

Imagine a post in 25/30 years time.

I never really enjoy Mothers Day. My husband helps our children buy gifts and make cards. The children get very excited and I’m careful to be enthusiastic and pleased. But I always remember my mother being cold and angry when I gave her a bag of Mini Eggs. 6 year old me didn’t understand why, & she wouldn’t share. Both parents stropped and sulked. That memory has stayed with me……

Spidey66 · 30/03/2025 10:56

Gemmawemma9 · 30/03/2025 10:47

It’s a shit, cheap, thoughtless gift.
im not saying you need hundreds spent. I got a bunch of daffs (favourite flowers!), some lovely new slippers (needed) and breakfast in bed. Homemade cards. Box of lily O’Brien chocs (again, my favourite!). Nobody has demanded I share. I will of course share them later when I open them. But my morning has been about making me feel special and appreciated. Which seems hugely lacking for the OP.

You have (what I assume is) a happy healthy child.

A happy healthy child who has, in their own very juvenile way, shown their love.

And all you can do is bitch and moan and be a martyr over something I very much hope is a joke.

Give your head a wobble, count your fucking blessings and go and be with your child.

There are dozens of women on this board who would give their right arm to have what you have.

Happy Mothers Day

This …bloody grow up and share your gift with your child !Think about the awful example you are you setting !!

MakeYourOwnMusicStartYourOwnDance · 30/03/2025 10:44

What's wrong with "just' chocolate your child has chosen though?
Honestly, I feel some people can be so grabby sometimes!
"I need x,y and z as that's not enough" 🙄😁

Agreed. The whole idea is that the child chooses something for the mother. I just can't imagine being in a family where you wouldn't share a bag of chocolate with your child. The OP comes across as immature and petty.
Mothers day really does bring out the worst in people on this site. There was one yesterday that was expecting a bloody sewing machine as her gift.
I am really glad I live in a world where I don't know people like this.

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 30/03/2025 10:55

I'd always share with my children, & appreciate they'd chosen the gift themselves. Every mothers day I'd receive a big box of maltesers from my kids & as little children they'd sit on the bed eagerly waiting for me to open them so they could dive in. It's a standing joke in our house.
Today, my strapping 6 foot, 27 year old son is sitting in the armchair, still eagerly waiting for me to open my big box of maltesers 🥰

Cosyblankets · 30/03/2025 10:55

ChicMiss · 30/03/2025 10:00

6 years old. I'm just miffed that it's a gift I have to share. Yes it's mother's day but I'm having to share my gift. It would be nice to receive something that is just mine.

Seriously?

Sunshineandoranges · 30/03/2025 10:54

I just thought I’d pop on to mumsnet to read the moans from dissatisfied mums, yours is the first I’ve read and imo you are being very unreasonable.

@Mumofnarnia

not sharing gifts you’ve been bought with your kids is NOT emotional abuse. It just isn’t.

Ah OP you’re a parent now. 1) mini eggs are awesome, and 2) aren’t you lucky you’ve a little person to share them with.

Genuinely poor form OP.

Cucy · 30/03/2025 10:52

LuckySantangelo35 · 30/03/2025 10:32

@Cucy

why though? It’s Mother’s Day! Not ‘mother and kids day’”

You can’t be a mother without having or raising a child though.

Surely the day is about celebrating being a mother, not you as a person like a birthday.

I couldn’t imagine not sharing the days enjoyment without my DCs.
If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t even have a Mother’s Day.

It’s a mini egg.
It’s ridiculous to be so precious over a bit of chocolate that you can go and buy yourself.

jolies1 · 30/03/2025 10:52

I always thought it was the done thing if you received a box of chocolates that you offer everyone one? I would be wanting to teach my 6yo it’s good to share (then hopefully when they get tons of Easter Eggs they’ll be offering me a bite 😂)

Theworldisinyourhands · 30/03/2025 10:52

If the child was 16 you might have a point but 6?! You either need to get a grip or this isn't real. If you don't truly embrace the joy of shared experiences and genuine empathy your child won't learn to either

LuckySantangelo35 · 30/03/2025 10:52

Gemmawemma9 · 30/03/2025 10:41

Oh fuck off. Emotionally abusive? Get a grip. Don’t minimise people who have actually suffered child abuse.

@Mumofnarnia
you don’t know the meaning of the word abuse

Loub1987 · 30/03/2025 10:52

I got a very tiny teddy of a hot cross bun, a pot of jam and a bag of monster munch. They picked it themselves as they know I like all those things. I love it! Although the two year old has already taken the teddy as her own.

I think you are being ridiculous, just buy more mini eggs if you are that hungry for a whole packet.
