I get a bag from my child. Who then asks to share them. No. Absolutely no. AIBU for a bit more thought? I don't like that I'm expected to share, they've gone off in a huff and my OH is also in a huff.

You’re not entirely unreasonable to hope for a gift that’s just for you OP, but that’s what comes later when your children are older.
Griping about your six year old wanting a mini egg is utterly bonkers

medlobath · 30/03/2025 12:21

I think Veruca has saltily left the thread. ( I'll grab my coat)

BonnieBug · 30/03/2025 12:20

You're getting grief on here and I don't know why!
Your daughter needs to learn that gifts are given for the recipient to enjoy not to bloody well share 😅

MothersDayLieIn · 30/03/2025 10:02

Oh my god! At 6 I'd just give them the whole bag! It's just mini eggs ffs!!

Why? It's her mother's day present!
Do you give all your Christmas presents back to who gave them to you?!

Weefox · 30/03/2025 12:15

Be generous....it's an attractive quality and points to a nice human being. Meanness is crap, and certainly not in the spirit of Easter.

6 years old. I'm just miffed that it's a gift I have to share. Yes it's mother's day but I'm having to share my gift. It would be nice to receive something that is just mine.

Oh come on OP you cannot seriously expect not to give your child a single one of your mini eggs

Cucy · 30/03/2025 12:14

I too would be in a huff if my DH wouldn’t share his eggs with his own child.

How selfish can you get.

My DC at 6 would have even offered to share their chocolate with me.
As an adult I would absolutely do the same (especially knowing I can literally buy some more anytime that I want).

Exasperated24 · 30/03/2025 12:14

Jesus wept.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/03/2025 12:13

Blimey you sound like hard work.

Give the kid a mini egg.

This is what driving out after dark to Maccies, the kebab house or down to the roundabout to the caravan that sells mayo dogs is for.

Spidey66 · 30/03/2025 11:13

So the present isn’t from the child but from their dad? Why can’t a 6 year old choose a gift?

Exactly. I can guarantee that there will loads of threads where the OP says her husband hasn't done anything for mothers day on behalf of her children. These mothers will be jumped on by posters telling them that she isn't her husbands mother so shouldn't expect anything from the children until they are old enough to choose and buy it themselves. You really can't win in the crazy world of mumsnet.

AllTheChaos · 30/03/2025 12:10

I’ve given up reminding my child about things like my birthday and Mother’s Day (she is 11). And my ex isn’t about to remember. I will take myself out on my own later for a fancy bun and a cup of tea.

Audiobook · 30/03/2025 12:02

😂it’s a nice present from a 6 year old and of course you share.

brettsalanger · 30/03/2025 12:01

Honestly the repetitive threads of ungrateful mothers today is madness.

ReducedToSteer · 30/03/2025 11:58

What messages are you giving DD about relationships if this is your response? How will she keep friends? How will she manage intimacy as an adult?

She's more mature than you at this point, check yourself.

Iammatrix · 30/03/2025 11:56

Took DGS out yesterday to buy DDs Mother’s Day gift. He saw his favourite chocolates, and said “these! Will mum share them with me?” I said of course she will. This morning I called her
and we had a laugh about it. She did share them with him. He’s 6.

TheJollyMoose · 30/03/2025 11:52

This is insane. I can’t imagine not being happy to share with my children Confused

😳 I thought you were going to say 30.

Share the chocolates with your six year old.

DancingNotDrowning · 30/03/2025 11:48

I have a feeling this isn’t a joke post and is suspect there is something else quite significant going on in the OPs life and this is the tip of a very large iceberg.

OP if that’s the case I hope your day improves

NotARealWookiie · 30/03/2025 11:46

You got chocolates for Mother’s Day and you don’t want to share them?

odd.

Like a hoover?

Share the bleeding mini eggs with your child and buy another packet if you care that much about eating them. You are spoiling a lovely day

Marchingintoapril · 30/03/2025 11:42

This wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Tiredofallthis101 · 30/03/2025 11:41

Come on honestly. It's your child. I bought stuff I like (that the kids also like) for a mother's day breakfast this morning. Plenty to go round I thought. But the kids munched through theirs and then mine, extra hungry for some reason. Whilst part of me thought - this is my food on mother's day! - most of me thought, those cheeky little toads, I love them. So it made me smile anyway.

Ok a 6 year old could be more thoughtful but IMO stropping about it is childish. Next year (in an age appropriate way) be clearer on your expectations eg mother's day is a special day where we are extra kind to our mums, we get them special presents just for them, we help them by tidying up etc etc.

Marchingintoapril · 30/03/2025 11:40

VickyEadieofThigh · 30/03/2025 10:06

The more of these huffy/indignant/moany/ridiculous Mother's Day threads I read (every bloody year), the more I think the sodding day should be consigned to the dustbin.

Mums (and Dads) should be celebrated all the time. This Hallmark day is awful.

I totally agree. My thoughts exactly!

NetZeroZealot · 30/03/2025 11:38

I would want to share them to set a good example to my child.
and hopefully they would also learn that it isn’t polite to ask someone to share, you wait to be offered.
