To think this would be a rubbish mother's day present?

A soft play local to me has posted on Facebook suggesting a voucher as a good idea for a mother's day present, on the premise that mums can enjoy a hot drink while the kids play. Or as a gift for grandmother's so they can spend one on one time with their grandchildren.

AIBU to think this would be a rubbish gift? If I want to take my DC to the seventh circle of hell soft play I will... but that's not a gift for me! Equally, my mum/MIL are wonderful grandmothers, and are happy with a card and bunch of flowers on mothers day, but think even they'd raise a eyebrow at receiving this!

(For clarity, my DH has assured me I'm not getting this for mothers day!)

Doesn't sound that bad. I'm not particularly horrified by softplay in general and if I was going there on Sunday then I'd definitely appreciate a free coffee. Why wouldn't any business try to cash-in on the overblown nonsense MD has become?

Oh, you don't get a free coffee - you'd need to pay for it/use the voucher

We have a few really nice small ones here that are quiet and not the typical huge germy soft plays, would prefer a voucher to there then the typical ones.

As someone who doesn’t have all that much spare cash at times I’d appreciate it 🤷🏽‍♀️ But can see why some wouldn’t.

@Coffeeishot , don't mention the war! Grin

The only soft play I ever liked was one that was quite small so really easy to keep an eye on the kids while my sister and I read trashy celeb magazines and slagged off kerry Catona (this was in 2009) unfortunately it closed years ago now I've got a choice of one that doesn't open during the week so gets insanely busy/unsafe or one that changed ownership after coving and all the toys/play kitchen/building blocks were gone so it's crap now

YANBU.
I don't have the hatred of soft play like a lot of posters on MN do. I actually miss it now mine are too old, but that would be a rubbish present for Mother's Day.

They’re just trying to make money, but yes, can’t imagine going to a sweaty, sticky soft play for a nice day out.

Deerrobin · 26/03/2025 07:19

You can’t blame them for trying but YANBU that would be a terrible gift!

Princesspollyyy · 26/03/2025 07:19

That’s not appealing at all. They are clearly just trying to make money. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to receive that.

MellowPinkDeer · 26/03/2025 07:18

You’d have to really hate someone to get them this. Absolutely, completely HORRIFIC.
