Being laughed at on the School Run

ChoccyBiscuits123 · 24/03/2025 09:28

Okay so I'm going to start by saying I'm not usually bothered by people's behaviour - I'm very much a live and let live person....however...there are two women on the school run that I am just perplexed by.

So for example this morning..I had just dropped my daughter off at school and I'm minding my own business walking home. These two other mums come from around the corner and immediately start laughing directly at me in my face...! They then stifled their giggles and walked past. This is not the first time this has happened.
Once they started singing a Kylie Minogue song at me from the other side of the road laughing and twirling around. All a bit much for me in the morning!!

We're all pretty relaxed dressers on the school run..they wear tracksuits and tie their hair up and I tend to wear leggings and a navy joules coat with miminal make up (mascara and perhaps a red lip if I have the energy) so it's not like I'm going to school in Kylie hot pants or full make up or other crazy clothing.

I'm perplexed as to why they've targeted me as I don't know them at all. It's got to the point where it is upsetting me. Someone laughing in my face or stifling giggles as I walk past is hurtful and it's starting to feel like bullying. Am I being too sensitive? Is my make up or dress sense so awful they cant help but laugh? I am so confused! Esp as they don't seem to do it to anyone else.

I want to ignore it and just put it down to them being muppets but I am struggling now.

I can't confront them as they will probably just see it as hilarious and as they've never actually said anything directly to me they could accuse me of being paranoid.

Any help or advice much appreciated. No nasty comment please.

There is only one piece of advice you need for this and any similar situation. Be like the queen - keep walking - smile and wave. You are a swan gliding along being far too fancy for this nonsense. It does not concern you. It has no impact on you. If people want to be twats just let them get on with it. The only people they’re embarrassing is themselves.

This is actually good life advice, love the swan analogy

MidwichCuckoo · 24/03/2025 13:18

On threads like this about the school run you always get people saying "I've never seen anything like that on the school run. You must be misunderstanding." They are basically saying that no immature, bitchy women exist anywhere in the UK, which is silly.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 24/03/2025 13:17

I’m not a social person - currently sitting in the staff room eating and avoiding eye contact with colleagues. So I don’t know much about people…

But, I think you had one awkward encounter with them and then it spiralled and each day became more awkward. They are gigglers and awkward. Perhaps a cheery good morning would break the cycle?

Keen to hear opinions on this.

SepticCess · 24/03/2025 13:14

Put your headphones on, Boop boop de doop along to what you are listening to and don't even look in their direction.

Yeah. Cool story bro.

Reddit is over that way, bro.

GenderFluid90 · 24/03/2025 13:10

Best to ignore if you can...but whatever you do don't do a Paddington stare or a tinkly laugh or a "Did you mean to be so rude?"

You'll look Insane

myheadsjustmush · 24/03/2025 13:09

Well don't they sound absolutely lovely. 🙄

I know it must be difficult, but please try and ignore them. They both sound like two immature idiots who clearly have one brain cell between them.

It does make you wonder though. If they behave like this, I dread to think how their children act.......

I’m so sorry op! There are some mums that are cliquey and never grew up from school age so are still bullies! I would make a note of the ‘event’ and date and time it. If there’s another incident, I would make another note of it and go to the school/police or something

i feel like I’m a bit ott with this because at one of my local schools a parent was bullied by another group of parents and it ended up where they intimidated her so much she was pushed on the edge of the road, lost her balance and fell into the road where she is was hit and unfortunately died. (Though many believe she was directly pushed). Yet she lost her life because of parents like this who are bullies.

Dear God.

What?! Why would the OP make this thread up for fun?
Very strange take.
Have you ever done the school run? If so you should know how spiteful and petty some parents can be!

Yeah. Cool story bro.

Petergriffinschins · 24/03/2025 12:58

I’ve had this OP. It’s shitty behaviour.

I am quite posh but moved to a shithole of an area. A couple of mums shout out “oi, Kate Middleton” and snigger when I walk past. Occasionally they will shout out other things at me, “where’s your tiara?” and other crap like that.

They are mums from DDs class, she is year 6 now, it started when we moved here in year 2.

So almost 4 fucking years they have been at it! Sad little women, I’ve never given them a reaction becuase I don’t actually care. I just find it amusing that they have kept it up so long, it’s bizzare.

BonnieBug · 24/03/2025 12:58

Iloveyoubut · 24/03/2025 12:47

That’s because they don’t, this isn’t real and my comment will soon be deleted for saying this isn’t real and telling the truth.

There has to be something about you that makes them jealous and regress to the playground. Are you very pretty OP? That'll be it, if so.

Why would it even have to be something about OP?

Tiredofallthis101 · 24/03/2025 12:50

I'd be tempted to say - can I help you?! And give them a death stare. But likely they will just laugh more. Twats

Iloveyoubut · 24/03/2025 12:47

SamPoodle123 · 24/03/2025 12:35

Are you sure they are laughing at you? They might not even be aware you are there. It could just be a coincidence. It seems highly unlikely and very odd if they were laughing at you. I can not imagine adults would behave like this.

That’s because they don’t, this isn’t real and my comment will soon be deleted for saying this isn’t real and telling the truth.

Namerchangee · 24/03/2025 12:46

Ignore them OP. I came out of the gym earlier today and two men laughed in my face and I just ignored them. Twats. I’m obese and am going to the gym. If they don’t like what they see, they can look away. Same as these two idiots in the school run. They have the problems, not you!

MyDeftDuck · 24/03/2025 12:45

I might be tempted to ask them

a) are they both OK?
b) do they have a problem?
c) why do they think it is acceptable to behave is such and obscure and odd manner?

No wonder some children grow up to be so dysfunctional if that's the example being set.

AnotherNaCha · 24/03/2025 12:40

Are you sure it’s about you? I guess we just know!

There’s a mum who seems to have it in for me (actually posted about it here and got the pile on DEFENDING her as “not everyone needs to like you”) and it’s just really pathetic immature behaviour that I’m sure even their kids are above.

A horrible feeling but you just need to rise above. Usually stems from jealousy.

Tubs11 · 24/03/2025 12:36

Ear pods in and head held high with a smile as you walk past and listen to something of interest.

Patterncarmen · 24/03/2025 12:36

Still think you should raise a safeguarding concern that they were singing drunkenly. It is amazing how when people get repercussions for their actions, they stop being jerks.

I had a mean girl badly harass me at work...I just gathered all my evidence, and after about 6-8 months, had enough that she was told resign or you will be fired. She went off to another institution, spinning it that she needed a change. I'll say, or she would not have a wage. I felt smug satisfaction for a good year over that one.

Strong responses are all people like this understand. They don't have the mental or emotional capacity to understand much but something that causes them trouble or pain.

And I've never thought being well groomed and dressed = snobbery.

SamPoodle123 · 24/03/2025 12:35

TeenLifeMum · 24/03/2025 12:33

BonnieBug · 24/03/2025 12:18

Or maybe they just realised you were a snob who stereotypes people....it probably seeps out of your pores.

Oh come on @BonnieBug we all know the type of people the poster is describing. There’s some scummy people in the world and as humans we make snap judgements on how people look all the time. You can pretend stereotypes are not based on learned experiences if you like but you’re being naive.

Mrsdyna · 24/03/2025 12:32

I wish I knew why people are like this. All my life I've just wanted weirdos like this to go away and leave me alone. I'll never understand them.
