Is it cheap not to cater?

it’s a significant birthday and a function room is being hired out 4-6pm for around 40 guests then afterwards carrying on in nearby (nice) pubs. The function room place serves food as do a few nearby pubs.

Does the event need catered (a buffet)?

Yes - YABU
No - YANBU

Oh dear, it sounds a bit shit really.

So the planned pub crawl didn't happen and you didn't stay out till the early hours as predicted either!
Sound like it was a shit great party 😆

Completely shit party. But once the birthday girl was happy, eh?

She said IT would carry on until 05:00. Not that SHE would carry on until 05:00.

Thank you! Honestly it’s so difficult to have any discussion on this site either because of lack of comprehension or people being so excited about getting to be rude that they don’t read properly.

Here you go.

Yes. It will be carrying on. I didn’t say I’d be there. Fucking hell.

It’ll be carrying on at 5am. I’d put money on it.

Here you go.

friendlycat · 30/03/2025 15:26

You explicitly said it would carry on until 5am 😅

But not with me there. It was still going on when I left. This really isn’t hard.

People need to eat before going on a pub crawl.

friendlycat · 30/03/2025 15:26

I never said that. I said that it would continue until the early hours.

And I commented that you indeed didn't stay out till the early hours like you so confidently said you would!

OP- look at your own comprehension of what you said in your earlier post!

OP is still as rude as ever 🙄

friendlycat · 30/03/2025 15:08

I wonder how many people were bewildered that a function room was booked with a few decorations but no basic catering provided from the host. Especially since the pub crawl never took off and the function room was used for five hours.

Still seems an extremely odd way to host a party. But if the birthday girl enjoyed it that’s good.

I left at midnight. Not everyone. I have no idea why so many people struggle with comprehension.

I think that sounds fine, it’s what I would have done. Stayed at first pub I mean.
It would have been better to have planned it like that at start!
Your friend had a very cheap party/gathering.

Ariel896 · 30/03/2025 14:08

Itrtttyy · 30/03/2025 13:40

Okay, the update I promised.

The party was last night. We ended up in the function room until 9pm, and then got a taxi straight to one other bar. I left at midnight.

People did just order themselves food at the bar. I still think it would’ve been much better to have a buffet but it was fine, and my friend had a great night which is the main thing I suppose.

The update we were waiting for!
You know what I’m glad it went well and wasn’t as bad as everyone made out!!

@Itrtttyy you've done your best. Nudged her about catering which has resulted in a cake. Just sit back and do your own thing on the night.

HellDorado · 25/03/2025 07:52

Well, I’m wishing I’d stuck with this thread now, purely for its novelty value. I’ve seen countless threads where OPs are upset/angry at being considered unreasonable. I’ve seen threads where OPs are upset to realise their partner/family member/friend has been treating them badly.

This is the first time I’ve seen a thread where an OP has asked “Is my friend being unreasonable?”, nearly everyone has said yes, but the OP has become horribly offended because everyone agrees with her!
