To think I’m officially old now? What was your defining moment?!

That’s it. I’ve now officially hit old age. Went to a concert with my daughter this week and it was standing. I was on the fringes of a mosh pit and it was very annoying. My feet are still bruised, my hips and legs are killing me and I can’t hear anything. I’m still absolutely exhausted too. I’m 58.

When did you have your epiphany?

SweetcornFritter · 23/03/2025 18:34

Every morning when I look in the mirror and wonder who the hell the old bag is looking back at me. This started happening recently. My face has just collapsed suddenly. I’m almost 62.

Went into a restaurant with my mum (81, I'm 55) and the server said you can order on the app, and his colleague said, don't worry, I'll take the order with a sympathetic look. Obs thought we looked too old and ancient to manage technology

Nearlyadoctor · 23/03/2025 18:33

How apt mine was actually today !! Went to watch my nephew age 6 bmx racing today , when walking down with my husband asked a lad if we were going in the right direction for the track ( he actually happened to be on the possible Olympic squad) . To which he said yes just follow me I’m heading that way “ do you have a grandchild competing “ 🤦🏼‍♀️😢🤦🏼‍♀️
Ive just turned 53 so obviously quite possible but even so 😢😂

elliejjtiny · 23/03/2025 18:32

I met my friend when we were both 18 and at uni. This year my ds1 and her dd1 turned 18.

I recently found out ds4's friend's mum is closer in age to ds1 than she is to me.

Going to parents evening and most of the teachers look about 12 years old and one of the TA's was at school with my ds1.

Being in my early 40's is really weird with half my friends having grandchildren and the other half have toddlers.

828Pax · 23/03/2025 18:30

When a salesman asked me how old I was, I said 38...he responded with 'well you look good for your age!'

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 23/03/2025 18:28

When students at my school are doing things in history class that I did as a 6th former but then it was called Current Affairs.

When I was scrolling down the years I ve been driving on an insurance renewal and just had to tick the last box "over 30 years".
In my head I m still mid 30s despite being 57 with 2 dc in their 30s

tothesea · 23/03/2025 18:28

I was standing at a bus stop and some teenagers were mucking about. One of them said something along the lines of ‘That old lady is watching you’
I turned round to see which old lady he was referring to.

Oh…

Mickeychampionwhatgoodami · 23/03/2025 18:28

Being ushered onto the bus by a young person insisting I go on first.

Mine was a mosh pit incident too - age 47.

Mine is now! What's a 'most pit'? Now I feel old (74)!😥

ruethewhirl · 23/03/2025 18:27

I think you're doing pretty well OP, I'm 57 and it's been years since I've been able to go to standing-only events due to back pain. Getting older sucks!

WhatAPrettyHouse · 23/03/2025 18:27

I was in a pub and told the guy behind the bar that I really liked the selection of music they were playing.

His response?

'Yeah, it's my Mum and Dad's playlist'

😆

Edited to add, I'm 50.

Mumwithbaggage · 23/03/2025 18:25

In my head I'm young not 61 but my hips don't lie!

Still like a mosh pit (though Scouting for Girls at a local venue probably doesn't really count).

DecafDodger · 23/03/2025 18:20

when we agree to meet friends at 9 o'clock, it's much more likely we are talking about AM and not PM.

longtompot · 23/03/2025 18:17

Sorry, but your post did make me laugh @moggo
Mine (early 50s) was going to a silent disco, dancing for the whole time, and on my feet for a good hour before and afterwards and barely being able to walk then, and especially the next day. Took my knees weeks to recover and they are still a bit crunchy. It's definitely betrayed how old I feel in my head which is late 30s

SpottedDonkey · 23/03/2025 18:17

When I was in my late 20s, I started noticing that I could no longer read road signs until I had almost driven past them. So I decided that an eye test might be in order. A few weeks later, I got my first pair of glasses. That was the moment I first realised I was getting older. I had thought of myself as a kid until that point.

fetchacloth · 23/03/2025 18:16

For me this was 60 when I was first diagnosed with arthritic knees and hips. More recently I have developed arthritis in my lower back too 😫

LunaNorth · 23/03/2025 18:15

When the 35 year old woman who was doing my tattoo last week didn’t know George Harrison had been in The Beatles.

😭

GreenEngland · 23/03/2025 18:15

Msybe now, 52 ad I had to google mosh pit; in my defence English is not my first language,

Or maybe last year when my 27 year old female colleague saw me and said your outfit looks nice, you look line one of us now. 😅 I was wearing trainers, jean and a new jump.

NotHavingAFunTime · 23/03/2025 18:14

@PaintedPottery whats your secret? I’m already showered and in bed I’m so exhausted!

Member869894 · 23/03/2025 18:14

When I was called 'senora' in Spain. Not 'senorita'

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 23/03/2025 18:12

Goodness, I'm 36 and would feel the same about the mosh pit situation.

I honestly don't know. I think I've been old since I hit puberty.

PaintedPottery · 23/03/2025 18:11

56 and just got glasses! But I feel fitter and have more energy than I had 20-30 years ago!

Christine1998 · 23/03/2025 18:09

I went to a pharmacy today for some over counter medicine, the assistant asked me how old i was, i laughed and said 56, i think i’m old enough, she served me then she apologised and said, sorry, i had to ask as people over a certain age, we have to advise you that we can’t sell it to you and refer you to your doctor 🙈 i couldn’t bring myself to ask why and what the age limit was 😫😂 it was obvs older than the 56 as she sold it to me so i’m presuming she thought i was 😱

Liz1tummypain · 23/03/2025 18:09

The moment for me was when I realised not only do I buy all my undies from Marks and Spencers but I also really like their jeans. My twenty- year old self would have looked at me in scorn.

GreenEngland · 23/03/2025 18:08

worrisomeasset · 23/03/2025 15:38

I’m a primary teacher and kids would sometimes call me ‘Mum’ by accident. A few years ago I got my first ‘Nan’.

🤣🤣🤣 this really made me laugh
