To think I’m officially old now? What was your defining moment?!

That’s it. I’ve now officially hit old age. Went to a concert with my daughter this week and it was standing. I was on the fringes of a mosh pit and it was very annoying. My feet are still bruised, my hips and legs are killing me and I can’t hear anything. I’m still absolutely exhausted too. I’m 58.

When did you have your epiphany?

Now that I can't follow new films and complain that they "mutter, mutter and don't enunciate!" Most of the talk is new York dialect and drowned out by constant loud music 🤨

When my mother started gifting me outfits from BonMarche, I was 38 at the time.

When I starting teaching kids of the kids I used to teach lol 😆 Well, the ones who had them very young but still hit a reality for me when I could see their parents sat in front of me through their DC. At parents' evenings when young all parents seemed so much older, now they all look so young. Life cycle eh. Xx

53 and realising I prefer to go out for lunch than dinner.

Caught sight of myself in a mirror at a party and realised I no longer looked young. I was 48, so that was nearly a decade ago. I'd had a pretty good run, but I don't mind, as the compensations of late middle-age are many!

I would like to hear about the compensations please 🙏

I was at the self checkout after food shopping and I bought a bottle of wine. The young chap comes over and asks for my ID. Then looks at me and says ‘never mind’

Crikeyalmighty · 24/03/2025 21:42

@hattie43 when I was around 57 I suddenly started getting annoying hip twinges on one side if I laid on my side to sleep - it’s never really got worse though - I also started getting weird stiff ankles and feet when I got up and had to literally walk outside for 5 minutes to loosen them up

Helen483 · 24/03/2025 21:37

I used to do a lot of business travel and one day I was staying in the sort of posh hotel that has a greeter hanging about in reception.
So as I approached he said something along the lines of "good morning young lady, how are you today?"
And I thought to myself "how dare he call me 'young lady ', I'm a grown woman"
Followed rapidly by "f*ck, he thinks I'm old enough to be flattered at being called 'young lady'!"

hattie43 · 24/03/2025 21:32

58 for me . My first hip twinge .

Simplestars · 24/03/2025 21:28

When I see police officers and think wow they look incredibly young.

Ladymeade · 24/03/2025 21:08

When I started going "oof" whenever I sat down or got up..

2becomeazoo · 24/03/2025 20:43

About a year ago people not queuing to get on the bus suddenly annoyed me and I now find the theme tune to Last of the summer wine sad!
coupled with always being a bit tired I’m officially old at 52

50, when the colon cancer screening test arrived along with a leaflet for funeral care. Sniper alley, here we come! 🫤🫤

I thought that the screening test was bad enough...Then I got a free sample of Tena knickers through the post. No, I hadn't requested them!

And seeing myself described as ‘sprightly’ on the consultant’s letter to my doc.

Was in a&e after a bad fall, got sent to x-ray, but first the obligatory question - is there any chance you are... looked at me then said 'you've had the menopause haven't you'. Kind of a question but not really

I felt youthful and energetic at 37 and ancient at 38.5!

I feel completely different and I know it’ll decline from here due to several long term health issues

ThinWomansBrain · 24/03/2025 19:42

I always thought that being organised with milk was the pinnacle of being a grown up.

A couple of years ago I discovered that long life milk is tons better than it used to be,
Sorted.

Soosi · 24/03/2025 19:41

78 new hip. Went down hill afterwards.😩

toxic44 · 24/03/2025 19:40

I've found it's a variable. Some days I feel 5 or 6 years old and on others I'm almost knocking on Heaven's door.

restingbitchface30 · 24/03/2025 19:36

I’m 39 and that sounds horrific! I went to see Foo fighters last year, standing and dancing my arse off for 3 hours and the next day I was knackered! However I was a bit heavier then so 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also noticed my slightly sagging jowls and more grey hairs last year so I’d say 38 I realised I wasn’t young anymore.
