She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

You have a whole naan between 2 people? I just ask our local Indian to shake a few crumbs into a bag. The 5 of us are stuffed when we've eaten all that. We don't need to eat again for a week

They do put a massive salad in with it though yeah? 😂

MichaelandKirk · 22/03/2025 22:14

She clearly eats loads and £52 is steep for a curry but I guess as she ‘thought’ you were paying she decided to stuff herself.

Molly1418 · 22/03/2025 22:11

You could also say that you were happy to cook but it was her idea to have a takeaway anyway, so…

Her reply says

‘Oh right. I didn’t realise but never mind!! I’ll have to go into branch cos I don’t do online banking. Or I can hand * the cash to give you, she lives nearby doesn’t she’

She used just eat apps etc but doesn’t do online banking hmm 🤔

Crinkle77 · 22/03/2025 22:09

I've just checked my local curry house on Just Eat. Mains start at about £10, pilau rice £3.50, naan bread £3.50, coke £3.50 + £5 delivery. All would come to about £46 for 2 people so what the OP paid is about right. I'm in NW England so not London prices.

"Either works, just let me know x."

3 naans between 2 people?! We share one between us and that’s plenty.

Suggest PayPal or phone banking. Doesn’t do online banking 😂. Doesn’t do paying her way either!

MathsMagpie · 22/03/2025 22:06

How bizarre! She sounds bonkers or maybe she’s embarrassed and can’t afford it but then she shouldn’t have turned down free home cooking or been out buying wine, I suppose.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 tasty

BatchCookBabe · 22/03/2025 22:04

Did you really eat all those carbs as well as paying such a ludicrous price @OnePeachA ???!!!! 😱

Good grief. Shock

TheActualDuck · 22/03/2025 22:04

Her Just Eat not working? My arse.

Agapornis · 22/03/2025 22:03

Don't do online banking my arse.

Do you use Paypal? You can email/text her a Paypal request, and she doesn't need an account, just her card. She should select 'friends & family' though otherwise you end up paying a fee.

JohnTheRevelator · 22/03/2025 22:01

What a CF.

OliviaBonas · 22/03/2025 22:01

I love spaghetti carbonara! I love butter chicken too though to be fair. I don’t think you’re going to see her share of the money. I had a friend that said I’ll pay ‘next time’ instead but next time never came….

YoSuchie · 22/03/2025 22:00

Spaghetti with a tyre

No wonder she wanted a takeaway 🤣🤣

pictoosh · 22/03/2025 21:59

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/03/2025 21:50

What's with the "my takeaway is cheaper than your takeaway" and the "did you really eat double carbs?" competition?

It's not relevant to the OP.

Edited

First of all, this. Stop being so petty and critical you nitpickers. It's boring.

Secondly, she sounds quite seasoned in the ways of cheeky fuckery.
Now she's intimating it will be a hassle to pay you, anticipating you'll just tell her not to worry about it.

Could be wrong, but she appears to be rather calculated doesn't she?

Bogginsthe3rd · 22/03/2025 21:59

thenightsky · 22/03/2025 21:49

oh yes... this. No way 2 people need 3 naans and 2 boxes of rice FFS. Crazy.

I've shared enough rice with you @thenightsky . I'm in the big league now.

She’s clearly still trying to wriggle out of it. Just reply “ok could you give it to X by next weeked then, thanks.” If it doesn’t , send her a reminder every few days until she’s shamed into it.

Can you reply with "Sure - pop the £x in an envelope and drop it in the letter box when you're passing. I'd rather you didn't get X involved in our issues - it's really no bother for you to drop it off, right? If I don't have it by Monday, I'll be back in touch with you then"

YoSuchie · 22/03/2025 21:56

Gosh, everything’s working against her putting her hand in her purse, isn’t it? She sounds quite skilled at evasion.
Don’t let her embarrass you. She wants something, she pays, as we all do.

ForestFox44 · 22/03/2025 21:56

Her replies are so rude! I'm cringing for her who tries this hard to get out of paying £30 😅😬
