She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 20:51

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

Her reply is so bad. Plenty of people might forget or ‘forget’ to transfer. But to be so brazen and combative trying to embarrass you into paying AFTRR you’ve made it clear you expect to split it? Her reply only would have been acceptable if you’d suggested the curry order

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 21:45

Her reply says

‘Oh right. I didn’t realise but never mind!! I’ll have to go into branch cos I don’t do online banking. Or I can hand * the cash to give you, she lives nearby doesn’t she’

Did she pay in the end OP?

KAT0779 · 31/03/2025 10:38

Pure cheeky, if I was you I'd see if she pays the money now you've asked for it, and if not put it down to experience and just never do it again. Annoying but if she's been this cheeky after her suggesting the takeaway then she would only do the same kind of thing again.

I've had it happen a few times when someone else has suggested getting a takeaway etc. and assumed I will pay because they are in my house. I had a friend once who ordered a pizza whilst at my house, I said I didn't want anything (there was never a pre arranged plan to get food) and when it arrived she shouted me and said the cost, I just shouted "oh I've got no cash, wasn't planning to order anything" and she did pay but obviously chanced her luck that she would just get a free pizza out of me. I totally pay my way and expect others to as well.

SunshineAndFizz · 26/03/2025 17:48

@OnePeachA has she paid you yet?

TwigletsAndRadishes · 26/03/2025 08:23

Sportswatchernotplayer · 24/03/2025 09:17

I agree.

I had a friend who would turn up for a quick drink meet up with a group that never had any money or means to pay. She was subsidised for months. Still managed to have her nails, lashes, brows done and various other spending. She was a user. Eventually everyone got fed up with paying for her.

So many people these days seem to view their expensive grooming regime of Turkey teeth, botox, fillers, microbladed brows, acrylic nails, hair highlights and/or extensions, tattoos and a spray tan as basic necessities that couldn't possibly be cut back on, before they even think about paying their rent of their utility bills these days. It's bizarre.

😆!

She certainly caused an argy “bhaji”

Brilliant joke

Is it as good as the poster who kept saying she was “vested” in the thread? That one seemed to slip by unnoticed.

I'm still maintaining the conspiracy that OP is actually the CF for starting a thread, getting us to provide a response and then disappearing without providing the closure we seek. All we are left with is pages and pages of naan/rice double carbing/ bun fighting with a giant yorkshire pudding thrown in.

Edit. You dont think (the originally accused) CF has gone round and done her in after seeing this thread do you?

Edited

It actually is really strange.

SpringIsNearlySpringing · 25/03/2025 20:15

@OnePeachA any update on the CF?

nationalsausagefund · 25/03/2025 19:55

£42.93 in our local, but free delivery. Reading through the menu to work it out confirmed I’d be really disappointed with a three naan, two rice order when there’s so many other delicious things. They do a set special for two for £37.99: poppadoms, sheek kebab, bhaji, all the dippy chutney things, tikka masala, jalfrezi, Bombay aloo, TWO pilau rice but only ONE naan.

I’d like OP to return, update, and elaborate on whether it was plain, pilau or some other rice. Makes a difference if they got one garlic rice one spinach. Adds vibes.

SerenaSemolena · 25/03/2025 19:43

I just order the paper bag

This is a good game....

£45, free delivery, from our nearby good Indian. Southern edge of London.

Shall we make some kind of Nan Map of Britain?

Now check the prices for that restaurant through Just Eat, if they're on there. They're massively inflated.

Edited to add, my post was actually more for the person you quoted!

Just checked my local Indian takeaway. All of this food comes to around £24. Would be £29 with the fiver delivery fee.

Where the F are they getting £52 from?! Shock

Also, this woman sounds like a shit friend. I'm sure you can do better!

Correction - FATTIES OVEREATING OBESITY Crisis 🤣

Fuck I hate mumsnet sometimes. This thread is such a shit show. Why must people ruin and derail threads, honestly. Fucking main character syndrome or what?

Yep. All that goes on in some people’s heads is ‘me me me me me me me it’s all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee’

It really is tiresome that they don’t just start their own vanity threads that we could all ignore and stop derailing other people’s

Comedy gold indeed from yourself and @Bitofanchange I don't think think I've seen a duo like it since The Two Ronnies

Yeh, I read the first bit of the thread the other day.

Read the last few pages last night to see if there was a conclusion, and this morning read through it all.

You've typed a squillion posts, a lot of capital letter screeching, and, frankly some of the most condescending shite I've ever had the misfortune to read on here.

I'll check back in a few days to see if we get any money back for OP, as my brain has shrivelled up reading your twollox.

IlooklikeNigella · 25/03/2025 11:40

Bitofanchange · 25/03/2025 11:32

I know, the biggest derail ever!

I doubt the CF has paid the money, she’d have to find a bank that’s open to start with!

You must be getting excited now... Only two more days!!!

IlooklikeNigella · 25/03/2025 11:38

JohnWayneswife · 25/03/2025 11:11

Look back at your screechy posts last night.

Only person getting worked up was you🤣

You were hyperventilating and getting triggered at the thoughts of double carbs and were VERY serious about it too.

Personally I don't give a fiddlers fuck if folk want to eat whatever they want. You cane across very judgemental and lectury, which was why a lot of posts diffused it with humour.

You cane across like the slimming lady from Fat Friends😆
