Social worker is writing false reports

Hi so basically my social worker is writing false reports
as far as I’m aware the social workers have to write reports on what they’ve seen and not what they have heard is this correct?
so my social worker has written that I never have food in nor do I ever have gas and electric, I’ve met her 3 times and not once has she been in my house without me having any of that, I have all my receipts from food shopping every fortnight, and I also have my utilities app which shows me making regular payments and my gas and electric is never off
also my son had an operation end of January of this year on his left testicle as he had a cyst, we thought it was a twisted testicle, he had a minor operation and 2 weeks off school and he has been right as rain, as soon as he started comparing of pain I took him up to the hospital and within 2 hours of him complaining of pain he’s all ready gone down for his op in her report she’s wrote ‘Oscar’s operation was more then likely due to neglect’ how can she give a medical opinion she’s a social worker???! also how would my child having a cyst on his left testicle be because of neglect?! This is a common thing for young boys
so for that basis my kids have been placed on child protection I’ve tried to show her my receipts and my gas and electric app but she’s not having none of it can someone give me advice? Also she is siding with my kids dad who has never been in regular contact he doesn’t see his daughter only his son, has issues with drugs, and is abusive to his gf and her children, he also disappears for weeks/months at a time and constantly lets his kids down AIBU and if not what do I even do? I’m scared to complain incase she escalates things

At the ICPC a safeguarding nurse would have been present to share health information which would have disproved the inaccuracies in the SW’s report about your DC’s procedure? And if the children are school age, the representative from the school would have been able to share positive reports? It’s not the SW who decides if a child protection plan is put in place, it’s a multi agency decision.

I know that there are crap SWs about. But I am really struggling with the idea that a SW would bother going out of their way to just make stuff up to put your DC on a child protection plan. She doesn’t know you to have a pre existing grudge and there’s just no reason to, it creates much more work for her.

She’s written that for the RCPC not the ICPC

Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Inaccuracies in ICPC Report & Request for Social Worker Change

Dear [Manager’s Name],

I am writing to formally raise my concerns regarding the Initial Child Protection Conference (ICPC) report written by [Social Worker’s Name]. I have identified significant inaccuracies and misleading statements in the report, which misrepresent my circumstances and could negatively impact decisions about my family.

Key Concerns:

  1. Factual inaccuracies – The report contains statements that are demonstrably untrue. [Provide specific examples, e.g., “It states that I failed to attend medical appointments, but I have attached evidence showing my attendance.”]
  2. Omissions and misrepresentation – Crucial context and evidence that provide a balanced view of the situation have been left out. This creates an unfair and biased perspective.
  3. Failure to adhere to professional standards – The inaccuracies in the report suggest a lack of impartiality, which undermines my confidence in the fairness of the process.

Under the Children Act 1989 and Working Together to Safeguard Children statutory guidance, I have the right to expect fair and accurate reporting in child protection proceedings. Furthermore, Social Work England’s professional standards require social workers to be honest, transparent, and evidence-based in their assessments.

Given these concerns, I formally request:

  1. A full review and correction of the inaccuracies in the ICPC report. I ask that any false statements be amended or removed, and that my own evidence and responses be included.
  2. A change of social worker – Due to the apparent bias and misrepresentation in the report, I do not feel confident that [Social Worker’s Name] can work with me fairly. I request a different worker who can assess my case objectively.
  3. A written response to this complaint within [reasonable timeframe, e.g., 10 working days], outlining what action will be taken.

I am committed to working cooperatively with social services in the best interests of my child(ren), but I must insist that all reports are accurate and impartial. If my concerns are not adequately addressed, I will have no choice but to escalate this complaint to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman and seek legal advice.

I look forward to your prompt response. Please confirm receipt of this letter and provide details of the next steps in your complaints process.

Yours sincerely,
[Your Name]

This is brill thankyou however it won’t let me copy it?

@crashbandicooty why do you think there are procedures in place to deal with this, if it never happens?

Do you honestly believe working for social services means you are incapable of lying or misinterpreting situations? How would that even work when every human is capable of it?

I do want to make a complaint however I am scared that it will escalate things

Things have been escalated by mistaken information or erroneous reporting, it is in your kids interest that you challenge it.

Do it all in writing/email/sms/whatsapp and keep your cool, stick to cold hard facts, if SW has to explain herself even once, she will be more careful.

I've dealt with SS several times and had one who hated me immediately, it happens, I phoned the office and stated we do not get on, I was fine with the previous SW but this one I find difficult to engage with as there are trust issues and I feel harshly judged by her.

Never saw her again, I can't promise but the bolded phrase seemed to work.

My daughter had social workers in her teens due to mental health problems, which thankfully have improved so much now. Anyone thinking this sort of thing can’t happen is completely wrong. There were so so many inaccuracies in reports they could have been written about another person. There were also damning reports from a social worker who never turned up, so never even met my daughter. I have no confidence in them.

Does anybody know on where I can find a template to write something by email maybe to her or her manager as I’m not good with my words at all and want to sound mature and professional (like I know what I’m talking about basically) as I feel they are taking advantage of me for not knowing my rights and stuff, I’m also classed as a vulnerable adult as I have extreme depression and anxiety

Er I wasn’t blaming the OP and it wasn’t a daft comment - how rude. The OP responded to my post giving a bit more detail which has hopefully helped people advise her. I wish her good luck.

I think the point being made is that the bar for children being placed on the CP register is very high, so there is far more to this than an empty fridge and a cyst on a testicle.

apparently never having gas and electric and no food in is CP worthy why wouldn’t it be? However it is not true so I shouldn’t be on child protection I was on a child in need plan due to my mental health and only had a family support worker after a few months of doing some work with her she told me a few times that I can withdraw my consent at any time and I would be left alone however I still needed help and support but now I wish I never bothered

How about writing a considered, rational and polite email with the proof to contradict the claims, attaching screenshots and bank statements. Even a letter from your GP if they are willing regarding your sons condition. CC in the department lead and team leader as well.

Keep it very civil, and state that you are aware of these allegations, so wish to provide some clarification and respectfully refute them on record.

I worked for a few years with SW in a safeguarding capacity and would always advocate avoiding confrontation, the last thing you want is to be seen as not working with them.

Fully agree with this, see if you can get the managers email also and cc them in. If you're having a meeting you can ask to read out a written statement at the start too. Do you qualify for legal aid, if it was me I would speak to a solictor for legal advice also. Social workers are not supposed to put in opinions and everything needs backed up with clear evidence. Are your kids in school? The school, GP, health visitor etc should be contacted and their opinions included also. It sounds like this SW is trying to make a case to put the children's names on the register

Where are you in the CP process? If you'll have a panel soon then get someone there with you as an advocate, and let them intercede on your behalf with the evidence. They may be listened to more than you would be (right or wrong, in my experience it's true)

I don’t know exactly but not long had the first child protection conference

and I will be bringing an advocate to the next one I’m not really good with my speaking so don’t really think they take anything on that I say anything I’ve told them about their dad it’s not written but anything he’s said about me is all here it’s just absolutely baffling how they side with the dad in cases like mine

Were your children offered independent advocates prior to
ICPC? When is your RCPC?

Is there a review/appeal mechanism? Can you speak to Legal Aid or similar? If you have proof what she's saying is false then go through those channels. Failing that, media attention?

Here you're going to get a lot of, "a social worker would NEVER." But of course they can, and do.

Keep incredibly good records going forward. And figure out how you can fight this.

That’s what I mean so many people will think that they don’t do this when they do thsnkyou for your advice 🫶🏽

Make a complaint to her manager. Include the copies of reports, the food shopping receipts and the app information about your utilities. Keep it straight to the point, no emotive language or accusations about her “siding with your ex”. Best not to speculate about her motivations as it discredits you. Simply factual.

You have concerns about the competency of your allocated social worker as her reports are inaccurate. Examples are a, b & c. Proof that these claims are inaccurate are a, b & c, evidence attached. Request the reports be amended and a new social worker allocated.

Just do this OP. Straightforward and no nonsense.
