To be upset he doesn't want to go

Not sure if I am just being oversensitive.
Been married to DH over 20 years and over that time we have had a few wedding invitations from his work colleagues etc. I always attended willingly even though I wouldn't know people. So last week I received an invitation from someone only I see socially. He is saying he doesn't want to go and reeled off a list of reasons like cost, etc etc. Never an issue when it was people he knew.
WIBU to go with a friend if he refuses.

So not only did he not want to go (bit crap given he wants you to go to his stuff) but he wanted you to not go either!!

I think deep down he is a homebody .

Have you asked him, does he expect you to attend future events with him?

Nowvoyager99 · 21/03/2025 16:33

Tell him you already arranged to share the room with a friend (good looking Luke from the gym) so the invitation no longer extends to him.

Well I booked a room and he is pissed off and saying I suppose I will have to go. Err no. I am just going to take somebody else. The room is refundable anyway.

I think he’s being really unfair if you’ve made an effort to go to his friends’ events in the past.

Personally I think it’s a bit of a shame when couples don’t make the effort to know each other’s friends at least a little bit, and to go to weddings, parties etc, but maybe I’m in the minority.

autisticbookworm · 20/03/2025 04:06

If want to go you definitely should, I’d check if they are happy for you to take a friend. I’d also think if you actually want to go the next time he gets an invite.

TheChosenTwo · 19/03/2025 22:25

Go on your own and stop going to any of the things you’re invited to as a plus one unless you actively want to go.
Ive never been to anything as dh’s plus one unless I want to. How boring!

Go with a friend and stop going to his functions that you don't want to go to!
