It’s goodbye from me

I’ve been on mumsnet since the early days, it’s seen my family grow up and become adults, seen me become a grandparent.

its been a happy place, a supportive place through thick and thin and I’ve made lots of contacts who I will miss.

the supportive threads are being lost amongst ones of hatred and intolerance for difference, for the others and by threads about high incomes not being enough, of how disabled people are increasingly hated, how children with SEND are an inconvenience. Boomers, of which I am not one, are hated.

is there anybody mumsnet members actually like?

im taking a break, however long is needed until the hatred is less.

Yeah but also something isn’t bullying just because you say it is.

Guilty conscience?
Where and when did I say something was bullying?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 19/03/2025 20:20

I’ve been here since at least 2011, and I remember being truly shocked by how horrible people were on here when I joined, so I am not convinced by people saying how great snd lovely Mumsnet used to be.

Me too, 100 percent, the popular posters in particular would slay you in an instant, if you were brave enough to challenge one.
Working class bashing threads and SPAG bashing threads were a daily occurrence.
As always there was a good balance of supportive posters too.

Bullies never consider themselves bullies.
In fact, when singled out, they claim victimhood.

Yeah but also something isn’t bullying just because you say it is.

One thing I have noticed on MN is a distinct lack of a sense of humour in many posters, along with a propensity for being easily offended !!

Unnecessary.

Why? No-one keeps tabs on every
member.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 19/03/2025 20:14

I've been on here for years, I was pretty shocked at first by the tone and some of the very plain speaking. And that was on relationships!
I think I've been hardened be being on mumsnet and look I'm posting in aibu! I'm scared of no-one now.
I remember getting a kicking when I posted about a SEND thing, I was so upset I didn't dare come on for weeks. I'm meh now. For which I'm grateful it's made me mentally healthier.
I love mumsnet, I laugh until I cry sometimes, women are so witty.

There are absolute wonderful women here and some utter, utter arses. And thats its appeal. True diversity of people, characters and opinions, all allowed to co-exist. So few places are like this.

I agree it was never a lovely place. It was always a bit of a nest of vipers. It is worse now, IMO, so polarised and unnecessarily harsh on new mums.

The biggest problem with the site now is the trolling, much of which is left to stand, goady posts tapping into the worst side of some of the people here. Abelism and racism goes unchallenged.

I dip in and out but one thing is for sure, if I was a new mother looking for support, I wouldn’t look here.

The thing they absolutely loved the best was a thread about MN Royalty where they could all come on and deny its existence while simultaneously basking in what they thought was their glory 😂

Oh god this. It was actually awful. Online real cliques are just tragic.

ThePurpleBuffalo · 19/03/2025 19:05

Anyfucker was awful. One of the rudest posters ever.

I did laugh though when someone suggested she might be the Duchess of Cambridge. 😄

While you may be a tit, nobody cares if you bounce.

Edited

The unedited version wasn’t better either.

Whitelight25 · 19/03/2025 20:08

I'm quite new, and find the positive stuff outweighs the negative by a pretty long way. Perhaps things were even better in the old days, but the support and concern and generous advice is still there if you look for it.
Anyway, bye for now. I wish I could give it up because it takes far too much of my time!

StartEngine · 19/03/2025 20:08

GinToBegin · 19/03/2025 19:35

Yep, absolutely. I remember any talk of MN Royalty being swiftly squashed, but it existed, and most of the exalted ones were frequently arseholes to others while the sycophants and cheerleaders fawned all over them.

Bye 👋 Good Luck

yeah, I know how you feel.
I’ve been here for years (20 or so) but rarely now and change name frequently. I do think a lot of it is me though, I just haven’t got the patience for all the crap any more. 😂

StartEngine · 19/03/2025 20:05

JanglingJack · 19/03/2025 20:01

No, not me.

I did come across someone on here with same username as previous forum. I did a sort of nod nod, wink wink, codeword... Do I recognise you from somewhere else?
They must have immediately changed names because apparently they never posted again 🤣

Yeah...

I remember in the early days quite a few of us were here from handbag and I think was it damsels before that?

Disabled people aren’t hated. The rise in claimants is not supportable.

Just the newly disabled then?

PandoraSox · 19/03/2025 20:04

Livelovebehappy · 19/03/2025 19:59

I think it’s because it’s given to working people is why it should be looked at. People can earn huge salaries, and are still able to apply for it. It really needs to be means tested. In my opinion.

Means testing PIP would cost more than it saved.

Most working disabled people earn less than their non-disabled counterparts.

Disabled people can't win. If they claim PIP and don't work, it's wrong. If they claim PIP and work, it's wrong.

Dymaxion · 19/03/2025 20:02

I think Mumsnet is a bit like real life, your family, friends and colleagues get caught up in petty squabbles, but when the shit really hits the fan, people step up to help.
Like you, I am getting on a bit, and when I look back over the last 30 years, where I actually took note of what was going on in the world as opposed to the more fun stuff, its always been the case that people are on the look out for someone to scapegoat for any ills the country is suffering, poor people, single mothers, immigrants, the disabled, they have all had their turn in the spotlight, some numerous times. It conveniently detracts attention from those people who are responsible for the shit or are making a profit from the shit, or simply haven't figured out how to deal with the shit !

JanglingJack · 19/03/2025 20:01

AstroZomb1e · 19/03/2025 19:55

It was similar to here in terms of subject matter but smaller with a lot more usernames you’d recognise. I’ve always wondered if anyone from there is here now which is why I asked!

No, not me.

Is this an airport now? I didn’t know departures needed to be announced. Is this a good old fashioned flounce?

Livelovebehappy · 19/03/2025 19:59

PandoraSox · 19/03/2025 19:53

Read the room for God's sake. The amount of PIP fraud is miniscule. Plus PIP has nothing to do with ability to work.

Are your feelings running as high about tax evasion?
