It’s goodbye from me

I’ve been on mumsnet since the early days, it’s seen my family grow up and become adults, seen me become a grandparent.

its been a happy place, a supportive place through thick and thin and I’ve made lots of contacts who I will miss.

the supportive threads are being lost amongst ones of hatred and intolerance for difference, for the others and by threads about high incomes not being enough, of how disabled people are increasingly hated, how children with SEND are an inconvenience. Boomers, of which I am not one, are hated.

is there anybody mumsnet members actually like?

im taking a break, however long is needed until the hatred is less.

OP posts:

Isn't there a "Flouncer's Corner" for this sort of post?

Yes but how else will OP get the attention she craves as no one really hangs out there

Disabled people aren’t hated. The rise in claimants is not supportable.

This. This overuse of emotive language, especially the word “hate” is rather than childish and very unhelpful. Hate is a very strong word and something few of us experience. Not agreeing with every tiny issue around disability claimants isn’t hate.

The fewer people whining about MN and using the word “hate” out of context, the better IMO 😂

MN is really stressing me out today. The ableism is through the fucking roof. It's exhausting to read.

I agree. It’s interesting though it’s almost like some kind of social experiment that has made people speak their minds. Almost like if racism was no longer illegal you just know that a lot of people would let their guard down and let the hatred and resentment pour freely. It’s quite disgusting on here and eerily interesting at the same time. Clinical and business like language used to de humanise the disabled to make them seem like statistics and a financial burden eg disabled people are not hated. The rise in claimants is not supportable

BobbyBiscuits · 19/03/2025 21:11

If people chat ableist shite on here I call them out. I'm not leaving just because of some people's ignorance.

0ohLarLar · 19/03/2025 21:10

I actually want some of the benefit changes because i think the state supporting too many people actually limits what can be provided to the most severely disabled and I'd rather the help was concentrated where need is greatest

IHaveDefectedToTeamDog · 19/03/2025 21:10

I'm really going to miss you 😢😢😞

beasmithwentworth · 19/03/2025 21:08

Oh I loved @anyfucker.Yes absolutely brutal at times but also funny!

JanglingJack · 19/03/2025 21:07

and it's goodbye from her...

Sorry couldn't resist.

It was a bit slow coming. The old comedy cells aren't quite firing as quickly as they used to.

It's okay, I'm going too... Blimey. Tough crowd.

NebulousWhistler · 19/03/2025 21:05

Charlize43 · 19/03/2025 18:21

You will miss all the viciousness; all the man-hating threads; all those financially struggling on 100K a year; MILs being torn apart; and the bad fashion choices.

I give it an hour or so, and then you'll name change and be back!

£100k doesn’t even pay boarding school fees for one child any more!

<misses point of flouncy thread>

Frenzi · 19/03/2025 21:05

Its not compulsory to be here. Why announce you are leaving. Just go! Very odd!!

Some Mumsnet posters have created this mythical past, were it was happy, supportive back in their day. It’s a shared delusion

no, i genuinely think it is far worse today
people can hide behind anonymity and say dreadful things, gang up on people

i have been here since 2006, though you wouldnt know it as name changing is easy!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 19/03/2025 21:02

Anyfucker That is a blast from the past, never had any issues though and don't remember them being extremely rude.

I knew my place. 😅
Many of the old posters are still regular posters.

It was fun too, wine o clock.

LBFseBrom · 19/03/2025 20:56

I'm a 'boomer' and a pensioner and have experienced no hatred towards me on Mumsnet. I have seen some very hateful threads at times but there are plenty of good and interesting ones in which people give support to each other.

However if you need a break, have one. I have felt jaded at times, not so much on here but by internet posting generally and had some time out.

There's no need to announce, go for a while.

I agree.

I was on MN more or less back in that day under my present username which I've never changed except to protect my family and employment.

I enjoyed the way better standard of debate but my God it was cliquey. To be fair many of the MN royalty, of which I was not one, did not behave like twats at all.

I can only see the fawning in retrospect when a "does anyone remember X" thread starts it all up.

I bloody hope I haven't kicked one off by saying this. Grin

Ilovelurchers · 19/03/2025 20:39

There is an enormous right wing bias on here. Some horrendous racism. Anyone obviously working class is picked on.....

But there are good aspects too - good advice, intelligent discussion among women.

It is what it is. You aren't wrong to have tired of it, OP. I have felt like that too at times.

But also I kinda feel, better to light a candle than curse the darkness. Should good women leave a forum for discussion among women, because they feel concerns about the views being promoted? Or should they, instead, shout louder? Or if they aren't the shouting type, continue quietly to chip away with same, kind posts on (at times) frankly horrendously right wing threads?

Your decision, OP. I wish you wellz whatever you decide.

JazzyBazzy79 · 19/03/2025 20:38

Yes don't blame you. Lots of racists on here and plenty of discrimination. Going on and on about how refugees/asylum seekers are taking 'our money' - as if England belongs to mumsnetters just because they were born here. Disgraceful.

Lucelady · 19/03/2025 20:36

I put a post up at the end of the year about a family financial disagreement.
I had five posters lay into me and accusing me of criminality and abuse. They hadn't read the thread and decided to make up their own back story. A lot of it got taken down and there was good advice. On this occasion I fought back. I usually just disengage but I thought no, you're being vile and I'm not having it.
Ive been on here for over twenty years and it's generally helpful. I don't post in FWR as there is too much hate for the LGBT community.
These people have no answers only their own take on why people feel different. How it effects them and never a consideration for the feelings of others.
My advice pick your threads wisely. Give advice when you can help and bog off when you can't.

SprinkleOfSunak · 19/03/2025 20:33

I completely understand this OP.

I am truly astounded by some of the rudeness and the audacity of many posts on Mumsnet. I hate seeing this level of churlishness, and have had a lot directed at me - including at least 3 comments today.

I have taken many breaks and then returned as I tend to find it quite addictive, but the nasty comments really do spoil my enjoyment.

menopausalfart · 19/03/2025 20:31

I avoid the harsher posts as my mental health is already fragile. There are still lots of good discussions to be had though.

alwaysdeleteyourcookies · 19/03/2025 20:28

There's no need to announce it, is there?

The unedited version wasn’t better either.

Personally I thought the edit added a little something.

Guilty conscience?
Where and when did I say something was bullying?

Read the quoted thread, please.

Crikeyalmighty · 19/03/2025 19:42

@WhereIsMyJumper I don’t think that’s necessarily correct- I’m a centre left voter and I 100% agree with you as do many others I know -

Because you’re left of centre, not extreme left. You are far more sensible Grin
