Sell the story, if so to who?

I'm unsure about this but I'm on dating sites and as we all know it's full of parasites.

I was speaking to an elected councillor who I thought was decent, he sent me nudes, vulgar text etc. He swiftly deleted it but it's really wrong, I have screenshot etc. He was disgusting.

I'm not on about selling per se for money but we shouldn't have creeps like this representing us.

OP posts:
LittleCharlotte · 18/03/2025 23:33

Sending unsolicited nudes is illegal. How many times does it need saying?

He claimed to be someone , a councillor, OP looked him up to make him aware someone was pretending to be him - and it was him. Nothing shitty about her behaviour. Unless you're a man who likes committing crimes.

x2boys · 18/03/2025 20:56

Hes, a councillor not an Mp who has any power
Would anyone care?

That's what I'm thinking. Did anything illegal happen?

Fountofwisdom · 18/03/2025 23:27

Nobody is interested in a councillor, they are absolute nobodies, except in their own heads. If it was an MP you might have some interest. But your behaviour sounds suspect too, like you were targeting him to reel him in. If he said/sent something illegal, you should inform police, not the press. Otherwise leave it.

Itsoneofthose · 18/03/2025 20:52

Sorry.. why do you want to do this exactly? A grown man sends nudes to a grown woman and consequently you want to publicly shame him and for him to loose his career? Under the guise that he ‘shouldn’t be representing us’. Think there’s more to this tale than meets the eye here. Careful you don’t get done for slander and libel.

It's a crime. Don't try to make out it's not a big deal. It is. No man should be doing this.

mswales · 18/03/2025 23:25

A man being a creep on a dating site isn’t news, even if he’s a councillor. And unfortunately yes creeps can be legitimate councillors. We’ve elected prime ministers and presidents who’ve been known for much worse behaviour than sending nudes to a woman they were chatting to on a dating site!

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 18/03/2025 23:25

I really don't think a women's charity would want to be associated with the profits of a sleazy story in the press

LittleCharlotte · 18/03/2025 23:24

OneWaryCat · 18/03/2025 20:32

What was horrible about the messages? If they were 'just' vulgar then sadly that is a lot of men on dating sites. What is vulgar to you might be a turn on to someone else. Sending unsolicited nudes is obviously gross, but unless this man is married, you were on a dating site and talking to each other for the purposes of romance. He's clearly misread the signals and might be a bit inappropriate, but is any of it really a crime? Or are you breaching his privacy because of his job?

Yes it is a crime. Thank heavens we've finally got unsolicited nudes made a crime, so don't try to belittle it.

LittleCharlotte · 18/03/2025 23:22

L0bstersLass · 18/03/2025 23:18

As is you hunting him down and contacting him off-app.

No it isn't and it's nothing compared to sending unsolicited nudes.

OP ignore those sticking up for the bloke. Report to the police and to the council. I hope you are alright; it's happened to too many of us.

Chungai · 18/03/2025 23:20

L0bstersLass · 18/03/2025 23:18

As is you hunting him down and contacting him off-app.

If OP's story is correct she was trying to do him a favour.

The number she got is in the public domain.

I'd actually be grateful to know someone was impersonating me online or using my information to catfish.

Chungai · 18/03/2025 23:19

It's not ok to send someone unsolicited nudes and the fact that women on here seem to think it's ok depresses me.

I would block him on WA and then speak to his party / council leader anonymously telling them what happened. I wouldn't go to the media. They could sensationalise it and drag you through the mud too.

L0bstersLass · 18/03/2025 23:18

cupsandcupsoftea · 18/03/2025 20:43

I don't want money, I probably worded the title wrong, sorry.

I just think it's shitty.

As is you hunting him down and contacting him off-app.

Porcelainpig · 18/03/2025 22:42

Are you just posting here hoping journo vultures offer you money? I wouldn't get into this shit if I were you.

‘Journo vultures’?! The two journalists on here have offered advice to the OP on how to go about exposing this pervert, and neither have offered money or tried to entice more details out of her 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wranglestar · 18/03/2025 22:48

It’s illegal to send unsolicited dick pics so inform the police, get a crime reference number and then expose him - so to speak

GarlicStyle · 18/03/2025 22:45

GivingUpFinally · 18/03/2025 20:41

Unsolicited nudes are a crime. I'd report to the police and take it from there. Its a form of sexual assault

This, too! was just about to edit my previous post to point out that not only has a councillor committed a crime, he seems to have used his official mobile to do so.

Go for him, @cupsandcupsoftea. Ignore these idiots trying to shut you up.

wordler · 18/03/2025 22:43

CaptainFuture · 18/03/2025 22:05

Am so sheltered! How on earth does it go from 'hail fellow, well met!' to 'here's my willy!' in the next message?!

It’s not usually that quick unless they really are the flasher types doing it for a thrill. I do think some men are deluded enough to believe you’ll feel obligated to respond in kind.

Years ago I decided to try a bit of online dating - put up quite an innocent - looking for a fun guy to get to know type of profile - hadn’t even put a photo up at this point.

Went to bed - got up next morning to a unbelievable 80ish messages. About 9 of them were just dick pics - not even a hello. About 20 were straight into sex talk. So I immediately deleted all of those.

After looking through the rest who’d responded in a normal way and deleting those who didn’t appeal or lived too far away I was left with about ten that I started conversations with and despite being very clear that I was looking for a serious relationship and wanted to take it slow, over half of those went to asking for nudes, offering nudes or asking to start sexting within a couple of messages.

And this was all pre Tinder and the rise of the acceptable casual hook up - it was a proper ‘dating’ site.

The OP hasn't said anything about not wanting to phone the police.

I'm also pretty Hmm at all these posters whose reaction to a woman being on the receiving end of cyberflashing is to mock her, minimise the offence, and make shit up about her.

She hasn't said she'd even thought about it though, has she? She didn't ask whether she should report it to the police, she wanted to know which media outlets would be interested.

She been given that advice, multiple times and is still stating that she wouldn't turn down the money. Whether it would go to charity or not, the ops main priority is to get money, not to go through the correct channels to ensure that if he has done wrong, it is dealt with properly. Other posters have given her reasons why she shouldn't do it the way she proposes.

Whichever political party he represents at a local level.

He may be in breach of a code of conduct but you need to be sure before you start what you want to achieve.

You won't be paid.

You might get a tiny amount from the Mail for a tip-off as they call it but it's not really sensational stuff so I'd not be sure they'd be interested.

GarlicStyle · 18/03/2025 22:40

What the fuck is the matter with everyone? If you're considering dating someone, OF COURSE you independently verify their identity..

Council websites are gov.uk and yes, they are government.

Councillors' home addresses and business mobile numbers are listed.

He must have been using his business mobile to send explicit messages 😡

OP, I agree with contacting his local newspaper. Let them decide what to publish, not mumsnetters.

Alternatively, follow the procedures set out in the relevant council's "Arrangements for dealing with complaints about the code of conduct for members".

So in total the OP's real query seems to have been, "How do I share that this person behaves badly, because it's not OK for someone in this position of authority to do this?"

She elaborates again further down that getting money for herself isn't the objective.

Her thread title is "Sell this story, but to who?"

PerkingFaintly · 18/03/2025 22:28

Skinnylattenosugar · 18/03/2025 22:24

You don't agree with the op, she doesn't want to phone the police, she wants to sell her story... you agree with everyone that's giving her a reality check hard time.

The OP hasn't said anything about not wanting to phone the police.
