Obviously I did it just to spite my 15yr old

I broke the shower this morning.
Obiously I did it purely to spite my 15yr old and no one else could possibly be as inconvenienced as her by having to have a bath instead.
What things have you done on purpose purely to make life difficult for your teen (according to your teen)?

I'm a terrible parent because I didn't go shopping yesterday (due to leaving the house at 6.30am for a work thing when everyone else was snoring). Since my daughter used up the milk the previous night making smoothies there was no milk for cereal. And also apparently there was 'no food in the house' (there is a fridge, two freezers and two cupboards full of food). The outrage that she had to get in the car I pay for, drive to the shop and get some milk herself.....

Hazey19 · 16/03/2025 18:16

Speaking, singing, dancing, breathing. All of these things I’m not allowed to do in my teenagers company. However it just makes me do them more to be even more annoying.

Gingernaut · 16/03/2025 18:14

My mum had mental health issues which manifested as a kind of severe pride in appearance

I couldn't leave the house without everything bring ironed

I was mortified when we were finally allowed to wear jeans (this was the 70s and 80s) with creases ironed down the legs

Lanzarotelady · 16/03/2025 18:14

Too many instances, but one springs out, made him get up at 1pm, to take him to dino golf at the Trafford centre ( he wanted to go ) and then I beat him! Apparently I am not only the worlds worst mum, I am a awful human being!

I've read out bits of this thread to dp who has reminded me of the story of his dad (who I adored and miss so much)

Dp swears he had the best parents and the best childhood

Dad was a bit of a del boy, always ducking and diving but worked hard for his family and played even harder for himself

He smoked too much, ate all the wrong foods, drank a lot and didn't do any exercise

Dp told someone that dad was in the SAS and this kid didn't believe him and they ended up having a fight (dad couldn't have been less SAS material)

He kept it quiet at the time, but years later the story came out (at this time dp had been married, became a father of 2,had got divorced and met me)

He had a tantrum because his dad just LOOKED at him (in the only way his dad could) and asked why he said that?

48 years old and he threw a tantrum over something that happened when he was 14

It ended in a sobbing mess and 'you promised me a bmx and bought me a racer!'

I guess he'd been holding onto resentment all these years!

We laugh about it now and it was mentioned at his funeral

I also as a teen was embarrassed by my dad when we went to the local chippy and he put said bags of chips into a red shopping bag. In my mind it was an old ladies’ bag. I was terrified someone might see me from school.

How I wish I could go to the chippy with him now ☹️

lifeonmars100 · 16/03/2025 18:12

It is just as well that this is an anonymous site and people can disguise their identity as otherwise, social services would be swooping across the length and breadth of the country to remove all these poor suffering teenagers from their terrible homes

Years ago I took DC on holiday to Cornwall, there was a club down by the beach, DS1 was around 17 at the time, apparently I was completely unreasonable to not let him go clubbing. Pointing out he was underage was totally embarrassing, of course he could get in, I ruined his holiday.

storminabuttercup · 16/03/2025 18:09

Im solely responsible for the WiFi being patchy, it’s fine it’s been checked by an engineer but he can’t download a massive pc game update and play another on his PS5 at the same time this is my fault, apparently it shouldn’t matter and I don’t understand anything at all so it’s clearly something I’m doing

his dad was very unreasonable for wearing a pretty standard shirt to go out for a meal yesterday, plain shirt, small designer logo but it was ‘lame’

tomorrow I’ll be unreasonable for waking him up and insisting he goes to the bus stop for the time it’s due because it’s ’always ten minutes late’ it’s not and I’ll keep insisting he goes on time because I often leave at the exact same time as him and follow his bus out of the village (he still insists it was late) I expect hes going to need therapy

I remember when I was about 16 I went to the school disco and my mother said 'Have a good time' and I shrieked at the top of my voice; 'DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!!!'.

We still laugh about it.

Edited

That is classic Kevin and Perry territory!

RedPanda901 · 16/03/2025 18:08

I bought strawberries instead raspberries for DD’s cooking lesson at school. I am so unreasonable because I should have known Big Saino’s wouldn’t have them and gone to Tesco instead even though she doesn’t even eat raspberries but does indeed like strawberries.

I’ve taken him to town today for trainers. “Bloody hell mum why have you come as a packet of polos”. I was wearing black jeans and a green and white striped t shirt.

😂😂😂

I’m still breathing.
I’m not psychic.

I offered to help with revision.

I look at her.
I don’t look at her.

I was so hard done to as a teen, I’m surprised I’m not in therapy.

At 15 I decided to be a vegetarian and my parents the absolute tyrants had the gall to inform me that my diet would probably need to include vegetables. I was a heaving sobbing mess proclaiming they didn’t even understand what vegetarian meant because they were old and insisted I could easily live off chocolate and cheese.

To make things worse they spent a fortune on vegetarian food they thought I might like but said I was required to cook it so they didn’t have to make separate meals every night, I’m still processing events.

On another occasion I faced the horror of walking into the house with a friend to find them kissing and was so emotionally scarred that I threatened to leave home, of course knew they were just doing it on purpose to embarrass me!
I did them the favour of ignoring them for a week though and throwing disgusted looks in their direction.
Obviously I let them know when I’d calmed down enough to speak to them that I’d prefer they showed minimal affection towards each other and kept things to a professional handshake to be respectful of my boundaries.

To top things off and to show how truly cruel they were, my dad agreed to pick me and my friends up from a nightclub the first time we went out properly.
He unreasonably didn’t want to wait like a taxi driver at 3am until we decided we were ready to get in the car and requested we were ready and waiting. My mum dared to make a joke that if we weren’t ready then my dad would come inside in his pyjamas and slippers and have a dance.

I knew this was said out of spite just to ruin my life so I threatened them with a good time by declaring I couldn’t go now and they had ruined everything and I knew they hated me.

I don’t know how I survived so much trauma, I’m sure you will agree they were terribly cruel and unreasonable!

My sister pulled this vegetarian stunt, but didn't eat cheese (still doesn't, to be fair). She did seem to get quite unwell, and the doctor came round to the house and informed her she'd got scurvy and needed to eat properly. I thought she had it at the time, but now view it as a stitch up between the parents and the family doc who'd been there since we were born, so knew us all well.

I have bought ds (17) new shoes.
He is sure his shoes will do to the end of the (school) year. I am not sure the sole will stay on long enough to get from the front door to the car, and he has 50 minute walk either way to school.

The sole and the rest of the shoe have fallen out massively. He thinks I should mend it with duct tape.

I went especially to get them, (he hates shoe shopping so declined to join me) and spent quite a long time sourcing plain black trainers with bungee laces, as he likes.

Tbf he does have ASD and hates new shoes.

Dd2 used to think I was mean because I wouldn't let her go to multiple shops to try on every shoes before she chose.

Boobyslims · 16/03/2025 17:56

I ruined tweenie 1s day by saying “have a lovely day” while the car door was opening for her departure. She can get the bus to school but likes a lift. I am not supposed to talk once the door is open.

I hope you went NC? 😂

Well of course! 😂

Poppymeldrum · 16/03/2025 17:55

I remember dd (about 14 years ago) was bragging to her mates about a 'cool new band' she'd found on the net

She turned to me,smirked and said 'bet you've never heard of nirvana!they are too cool for you, mum'

Me-'Kurt cobin, met Courtney love, had a baby called Francis bean, was hooked on drugs, sang 'smells like teen spirit' and shot himself in a hotel room?nah, never heard of him sweetheart'

The LOOK I received!

Same dd (around this time) came in,holding the hand of the hairest bloke I've ever met

More metal in his face than I ever thought possible and covered in tats

I'm the embarrassing one for not batting an eyelid and offering him a cup of tea!

I agreed with ny 6 year old that the figure of a demon in the shop was a bit scary. Preteen dd soon corrected me that it was infact not scary and I was embarrassing her infront of the empty shop. I ruined the whole day trip for her.

You monster!!

@changedusernameforthis1

Your teen can move in with me, I also absolutely detest showers and only have baths.

ShiftySquirrel · 16/03/2025 17:49

I've reminded mine several times to get on with her GCSE coursework this weekend.

Obviously this is totally unreasonable as she has not had any time to relax at all this weekend because I've been reminding her...

In a couple of years when one DD is doing A-levels and the other is doing GCSEs, I think I'll move into a tent in the garden.

Oddsocksanduglyshoes · 16/03/2025 17:49

I yawn to loudly, sing too much and had the audacity to book tickets to a west end show for my teens birthday, made them go with me and even worse they loved the show, but obviously didn’t want to admit that to me.

I booked an appointment for them for the time I was asked to and called an idiot as they couldn’t possibly get back in time and clueless, and when I asked if they wanted food was worst parent in world for not ordering them food when they said no they didn’t want any. Apparently I should have ordered it anyway….

ShodAndShadySenators · 16/03/2025 17:48

We got shouted at because of the harm lockdown did. All our fault, apparently.

So if anyone else has suffered ill effects from a global pandemic and government responses to same and want to blame us, knock yourself out.
