Obviously I did it just to spite my 15yr old

I broke the shower this morning.
Obiously I did it purely to spite my 15yr old and no one else could possibly be as inconvenienced as her by having to have a bath instead.
What things have you done on purpose purely to make life difficult for your teen (according to your teen)?

I told my daughter & now my grandkids that I practice really hard to be embarrassing 😁
It's an art form

Are you sure you're not living with my 11 year old son???

I looked at him the other day and was told off!

And rightly so! Why would you think that’s an acceptable thing to do? I hope that taught you a valuable lesson for next time! 😂

CosyDenimShark · 16/03/2025 20:00

I've just made the mistake of buying DS a brand spanking new Berghaus backpack for his DofE Silver. His walk is 30 miles in the Devon summer so I got one that circulates air on his back in case its hot.
Apparently, he wants to take the one he took for his Bronze last year that has lived in the attic for 25 years (with the exception of his walk), which is knackered, has a musty stink despite being washed twice and has no mod cons.
I'm an idiot & have wasted my money. How absolutely rude of me to try and make his walk more bearable!

ElfAndSafetyBored · 16/03/2025 19:59

I think my teen is broken as he scowled when I wouldn’t let him buy a £200 bottle of fragrance and take a second shower today (he’s done nothing all day, let alone anything that would break a sweat!).

Utterly with you. Although at the time I was half-convinced that late at night my parents secretly sat down together and MADE PLANS about how they might embarrass me in public. My mother probably bought that dark blue anorak for herself for this very end.

Oh definitely. Could they not even have made an EFFORT. Look at them in their clean, intact but deeply uncool clothes. What must people think of us.

Strange thing is the older I get the more I realise how liberating it is not obsessing worrying over what your wearing and that nobody in public really cares anyway. So that's something else I owe him an apology for when I get up there!

Cojones · 16/03/2025 19:58

I do remember having a huge paddy one Christmas because I wanted a navy blue woolly jumper. And the one they gave me was a navy blue wool jumper not woolly the way I wanted. I bloody loved that jumper in the end 🫣🤭

I ruin my pre teen’s (12) life on the daily by: asking him to shower, put deodorant, brush teeth properly, do homework, to please get up otherwise he’s going to be late for school, set the table, when dinner is ready, picking up his clothes from the floor…

He didn’t shoot himself in a hotel room. Was a room above his garage

I was going to say that, too

Yes,dp has just told me this
I honestly thought it was in a hotel room for some reason
I either heard the news wrong at the time,or have picked up the wrong info at some point

Everyday is a school day

Cojones · 16/03/2025 19:52

It doesn’t stop.
DS 22 is cross because I turned off The Greatest Showman because I happen to dislike the film so switched over to Antiques Roadshow (I know I am seriously bad).
Worse I had just finished binge watching a new tv detective show while he was on his phone watching stuff. However he is cross that I couldn’t allow him to watch the last 15 minutes of TGS.
I will be working away from home this week and said he can watch it tomorrow if he wants to. He said he won’t because he doesn’t actively want to watch it, it was just on and he could listen to it without headphones on.

There are many instances where he has suffered from his parents poor taste. I do regularly have YouTube content inflicted on me that he and his brother enjoy but is completely over my head because I am sooo old and out of touch.

💐. I know exactly how you feel. I want to go back and kick myself in the head for all the times I was 🙄 at being out in public with my dad and just finding his existence mortifying.
I would give everything I own to be anywhere with him now.

I ruin the lives of many teenagers by insisting they tie up long hair and wear safety goggles before using fire and chemicals.

I’m a Science teacher. I’m sorry for trying to keep you safe and stop your long hair catching fire!

FiletMignon · 16/03/2025 19:45

A few years ago now, but I took my then 16 year old to Asda to buy snacks that she wanted and at the checkout I whipped out Tesco branded bags to pack the things in. She was so mortified that I didn’t have bags that matched the supermarket we were in that she stormed out and hid from public view until I’d paid and made my way back to the car

Oollliivviiaa · 16/03/2025 19:44

She's still stropping about shouting about how I don't understand the impact a bath will have on her whole life.

I mended the torn jeans and ironed them. I still haven’t been forgiven and she’s 50

To be fair, I've not forgiven my mum for repairing my jeans either. 😂 she added a patch over a small knee tear and rendered them unwearable.

I also as a teen was embarrassed by my dad when we went to the local chippy and he put said bags of chips into a red shopping bag. In my mind it was an old ladies’ bag. I was terrified someone might see me from school.

How I wish I could go to the chippy with him now ☹️

I remember dd (about 14 years ago) was bragging to her mates about a 'cool new band' she'd found on the net

She turned to me,smirked and said 'bet you've never heard of nirvana!they are too cool for you, mum'

Me-'Kurt cobin, met Courtney love, had a baby called Francis bean, was hooked on drugs, sang 'smells like teen spirit' and shot himself in a hotel room?nah, never heard of him sweetheart'

The LOOK I received!

Same dd (around this time) came in,holding the hand of the hairest bloke I've ever met

More metal in his face than I ever thought possible and covered in tats

I'm the embarrassing one for not batting an eyelid and offering him a cup of tea!

tarheelbaby · 16/03/2025 19:21

Many years ago, there was a sort of reverse thread about what mothers would do in their teens' future homes: it reduced me to tears of laughter. A highlight is: I shall leave my giant shoes on the doormat so that the door cannot be opened. Another is: I shall leave all the coffee and tea mugs under my bed ...

ColourlessGreenIdeasSleepFuriously · 16/03/2025 19:17

Suggested she wore leggings since her favourite trousers were in the wash. Worst of it is she's only 8. Gawd help me when the hormones properly hit 😬

SinnerBoy · 16/03/2025 19:16

I've just ruined my daughter's life by explaining that school won't be closed tomorrow. I've just picked her up from a birthday party and her friend's dad said that nothing will be open tomorrow.

Context:
We live in Newcastle and they just beat Liverpool in the Cup Final.

Pancakeflipper · 16/03/2025 19:14

Eye roll and death glare from 15 yr old because I made apple crumble and not their preferred choice of raspberry pud.

Obviously I baked the apple crumble just to piss them off (not).

Wherewhatnow · 16/03/2025 19:11

DH and I ruined our teen's whole life yesterday by removing her old carpet without her permission. We'd just decorated her room the way she wanted, put up new shelves and built her the new desk she wanted but removing the decades old, manky carpet and putting down a temporary rug was obviously crossing the line.

atmywitsend1989 · 16/03/2025 19:09

Lol 🤣 They're dramatic at that age. My eldest thinks I'm ruining his life and annoying him whenever I speak. I asked him why once and he told me that it's my grating voice. Teenagers are assholes.

Dairymilkisminging · 16/03/2025 19:08

I was making tea and she wanted the kettle. I used up my conditioner and she was very put out she had to use her own. The dish washer was on. I obviously wait until she needs things just to annoy her

All before 5pm today
