Obviously I did it just to spite my 15yr old

I broke the shower this morning.
Obiously I did it purely to spite my 15yr old and no one else could possibly be as inconvenienced as her by having to have a bath instead.
What things have you done on purpose purely to make life difficult for your teen (according to your teen)?

I'm a secondary maths teacher so I can seriously inconvenience 30 at once just by saying "use a pencil and ruler for the diagrams please"

I make mine spit out their chewing gum and ask in French if they want to go to the toilet - the horror!

LardoBurrows · 16/03/2025 21:28

When I was a teen my mother used to serve up hot meals on warmed plates, obviously out of spite, and so I told her "the trouble with this house is that the food is too hot". That told her!

My DD once told me that "the trouble with this house is that there are just too many doors", apparently I had deliberately searched for bought a house with too many doors just to spite her.

We were out in a lovely wine bar with 17 yo DS who was having a rough time at school. We told him we loved him no matter what and we would support him whether he wanted to go to Uni or not, that we had huge faith in him and we were confident he would find his way forward in life. He stormed out of the restaurant and went home because apparently this was not supportive.

Bubobubo · 16/03/2025 21:16

I bought front row tickets for a comedian later in the year. DS is mad because his neck might hurt.

ghostyslovesheets · 16/03/2025 21:10

I wash shopping with the 16 yr old yesterday- pulled out a jumper and said ‘what do you think’

‘oh no I wouldn’t wear that it’s the wrong colour’

‘no I meant for me’ - sigh, eye roll, walk off 😂

Readinstead · 16/03/2025 20:55

When dd was a teenager, I once told my dd that she looked nice in her new bootcut jeans, apparantly that meant she looked terrible the rest of the time because I didn't say anything usually and also I shouldn't be looking at her.
I told her to roll down the waistband of her school skirt because when she walked upstairs I could she her knickers. I was a pervert for looking (I was picking up my car keys from the hook at the bottom of the stairs so I could give her a lift to school and looked up to answer a question) and anyway everybody wore their skirts short and the boys wouldn't look because they weren't perverts! (unlike me)

OreganoFlow · 16/03/2025 20:54

We were doing up the bathroom last year and had to spend several weeks showering at the local pool or at work and I remember thinking how glad I was that the kids were still charming little primary school children and not teenagers because I am sure they would have gone NC with us for that. As it was, DS was delighted because he 'doesn't like washing anyway'.

I vividly remember being absolutely disgusted with my mother for sneezing when I was a teenager. How dare she.

Is it crazy to look forward to having ridiculous teenagers? They all sound hilarious 😂

Sortalike · 16/03/2025 20:54

Today I have angered the Kraken because...

I suggest she might want to brush her hair.

I didn't buy white batches, DD has to have a wholemeal batch tomorrow for her lunch

The gravy wasn't brown enough

There was a "disgusting" carrot on her dinner (in fairness they weren't the nicest carrots)

I asked her to shut the drawers in her bedroom.

She's almost 10. I'm seriously considering entering a convent.

Hallelujah2020 · 16/03/2025 20:45

If your teen every gives you the silent treatment or moods in public then do what my mum would do, go completely still and then very dramatically pretend cry

Worked everytime and because you knew it was coming you didn’t half snap out of the strop quickly 🤣🤣

I'm a terrible parent because I didn't go shopping yesterday (due to leaving the house at 6.30am for a work thing when everyone else was snoring). Since my daughter used up the milk the previous night making smoothies there was no milk for cereal. And also apparently there was 'no food in the house' (there is a fridge, two freezers and two cupboards full of food). The outrage that she had to get in the car I pay for, drive to the shop and get some milk herself.....

My God! You, you evil, I can't even think of a word for it!!

Redscrunchie · 16/03/2025 20:39

We have ruined 16yo ds's birthday today by singing happy birthday and presenting him with a cake in the restaurant.

He said he cannot ever trust us again and will never go out on his birthday with us for the rest of his life 😂

scalt · 16/03/2025 20:38

I remember a time as a teenager that I was trying to have a Saturday morning lie-in, and I could hear my mum loudly talking about the housework that needed doing that day, with the strong implication that she was going to make us do it. I got the hoover out there and then, and started doing it in my pyjamas. She wailed "that's a horrible way of reacting!".

Clownfish9 · 16/03/2025 20:31

I have horrendous hayfever today and just sneezed several times in my tweens bedroom (whilst helping her with her homework!) and she yelled ‘ugh, can’t you just take an anti histamine!’
Because of course I hadn’t thought of that had I 🙄
Excuse me for the pollen count being high.

scalt · 16/03/2025 20:30

When my mum and I were staying with a friend of hers, we saw her friend being told by her teenage daughter (in a Nottinghamshire accent), in no uncertain terms: "I 'ate everyfing about yer, mum!", and the mum didn't bat an eyelid, as she had heard it all before.

My mum then said to me (I was 15 at the time) that it might do me good to let off steam like that, and to say the same thing. After a lifetime of being told that rudeness was a very bad thing, I wasn't sure if she was joking or not. Perhaps she would have preferred this to the silent seething I tended to do instead, when I didn't get my way. That was another thing I despised about adults at the time - the inconsistency. One moment, you're supposed to do this, the next, you're supposed to do that.😝

Anonycat · 16/03/2025 20:28

We were the ONLY parents not to buy our daughter a car as soon as she reached 17.

🤦‍♀️ That would make sense if the teen had broken it herself but it's incredibly stingy and selfish to expect a teen to pay for something that a parent broke. Parent's responsibility is to fix it although I agree that she'll live with just the bath

We got a replacement shower today but we need to sort out the plumber so im guessing a week or so until its fitted. The bath is perfectly fine in the meantime and she'll just have to deal with it.

We've told her she is bloody lucky that we can just get a new shower. That then started her off about how all I do is have a go at her (I wasn't btw). Followed by the FACT that ALL her friends have their own bathroom and its not fair that she has to share one bathroom with her parents.

Her attitude today has stunk and it's been really unpleasant.

just had a flashback to my then 15 year old telling me that my purse was "too young" for me, it was an innocuous plain pale blue but apparently people in their dotage should only have plain black accessories so as not to draw attention to themselves!

MargaretThursday · 16/03/2025 20:17

One I remember cringing inside out was when I was in year 7, me and dm met a girl (with her mum) who had been at primary with me. She'd had her hair cut in a bob.
Dm greeted her with something along the lines of:
"Oh! You've had your hair cut now. Margaret never had the longest hair in the form because yours was always longer."

I had never expressed any desire to have the longest hair in the form, and there were others who had longer hair too. But the way dm put it, it sounded like I'd always been desperate to say that my hair was longest.
I have no idea why she came out with that - she made it sound like the other girl had deliberately thwarted me.

Yes I have learnt my lesson!

I must avoid eye contact and profusely apologise whilst delivering all meals in front of him and I must immediately know that ketchup is now a right and not just a condiment.

No one can really prepare you for it really! And for us it was almost overnight so I think I was caught off guard 🥴

That's most likely-i remember both deaths being on the news but it looks like my brain has taken in the wrong details about both men
Didn't he die by having something wrapped round his neck?
I do remember both deaths but I have some details mixed up
Joys of being old I guess lol

Yeah that's the one.

Zeroperspective · 16/03/2025 20:11

My mum used to walk up to people in the street with a really enthusiastic 'oh my gosh hi I've not seen you for ages how are you?!' She wouldn't give them much of a chance to answer before announcing we were in a rush but they must absolutely catch up soon and to call her. We would walk off and I'd innocently ask who was that mum? She be killing herself laughing and tell me no idea but they'll be wondering all day now who I am! If we were in the car she would beep and very over the top wave to people walking in the street (9/10 they would wave back) cue the exact same conversation with her having no idea who they were and laughing at them puzzling and asking their family over dinner did they know who drove X car 😂 I was never really embarrassed tbh (she did and still does way worse lol) i either laughed with her or on occasion I did eye roll
I now do the beep and wave but I've never had the balls to do the walk up to in the street 🫣

Where you getting muddled with Michael Hutchence perhaps? He didn't shoot himself but did die in a hotel room.

And rightly so! Why would you think that’s an acceptable thing to do? I hope that taught you a valuable lesson for next time! 😂

Ionacat · 16/03/2025 20:04

I am the worse mum in the world according to teen DD, because I don’t know where every item of her clothing is at every single moment and I put clothes in the wash and hang them out and then she can’t find them. Both DDs seem to expect me to telepathically know where every single possession is at any given moment!

Yes,dp has just told me this
I honestly thought it was in a hotel room for some reason
I either heard the news wrong at the time,or have picked up the wrong info at some point

Everyday is a school day

Where you getting muddled with Michael Hutchence perhaps? He didn't shoot himself but did die in a hotel room.
