Obviously I did it just to spite my 15yr old

I broke the shower this morning.
Obiously I did it purely to spite my 15yr old and no one else could possibly be as inconvenienced as her by having to have a bath instead.
What things have you done on purpose purely to make life difficult for your teen (according to your teen)?

The cardinal sin of ‘never having anything to eat’ inside the burgeoning overflowing fridge because it doesn’t contain a Ginsters pasty or microwaveable instant burger. My gargantuan 18 year old muscle bound son is usually left starving and wasting away on the sofa because no one thought to replenish supplies of essentials like Orios, Doritos or savoury things that cook in less than 60 seconds. Tragically child protective services can’t rescue him as he’s been out at the gym, the pub and Nando’s when they last called.

Oh I often get told by my 20 years old there’s nothing to eat and ‘I’ll just cook my own dinner then’

Though his definition of ‘cooking dinner’ is ordering a Dominoes delivery or as a real stretch of his culinary skills - sticking sausages and chips in the air fryer

I would put the laptop, the ipad and the phone into a box every night and lock it.

Yeah, that didn’t make her happy.

Refusing to let them have phones in their bedroom overnight until they had finished school, dd said it made her look like a baby, friends laughed at her, it’s so unfair blah blah. She got over it 😂

SpongeKnobNoPants · 18/03/2025 14:58

I ruin my 12 yr olds life on a daily basis by listening to MY music in MY car when I give him a lift to school. And then I commit the further sin of not instinctively knowing exactly where he wants dropping off each day. Apparently I should just know to drop him to the gates/to the car park/to the entrance/near the bus park/down the road. Obviously I get it wrong every day and embarrass him to the point he seethe that I'm "so cringe!"

I've also purposely tripped him up with the vacuum cleaner wire because I knew he'd be walking past with his eyes and ears shut.

We have ruined 16yo ds's birthday today by singing happy birthday and presenting him with a cake in the restaurant.

He said he cannot ever trust us again and will never go out on his birthday with us for the rest of his life 😂

To be fair , Im 54 and Id not forgive you for that either .

Rowgtfc72 · 18/03/2025 09:04

Yesterday. I did mine, dhs, and newly turned 18 dds pack up.
She came home from work with a list of complaints.
She changes her mind on a daily basis. This morning found me in the garden patting the flour off her Pannini and ensuring the layer of cheese was there with her tuna and sweetcorn because how can I expect her to nuke it in the microwave without cheese?

I'd like to point out I'm no mug and two days complaints in a row means she's doing her own pack up the following week.
She had no pack up last week.

AuntieSoap · 18/03/2025 08:37

I once said “Good morning” to a boy in my DD’s year when I passed him in the street.

I know him because he used to live next door, but my DD was absolutely furious with me.

I’ve taken him to town today for trainers. “Bloody hell mum why have you come as a packet of polos”. I was wearing black jeans and a green and white striped t shirt.

Tbf, that was a good line by your son, there. Made me laugh, anyway. I'm sure you looked nothing like a packet of polos, by the way 😜

PrincessFairyWren · 18/03/2025 07:33

I ruined my 16 year old’s life last year by going to Bali on holiday instead of leaving him at home. I let him bring his laptop for gaming and made sure our hotels had wifi but apparently we were seen together (by strangers in a foreign country) while I was in my swimmers at the pool.

I am not sure if he will ever recover.

CallMeDaphne · 18/03/2025 07:19

Hang in there everyone.

as Mark Twain said, “When I was 14 my parents knew absolutely nothing. It was amazing how much they had learned by the time I was 21…”

BlueFlowers5 · 18/03/2025 07:15

I chose to not have the internet in our home, to try and avoid access to porn online.
The eternal moaning about it...
I did buy a word processing package so DC could present their school work 'typed up'.
DC felt deprived...

Waiting for a bus with DS (12) the other day, obviously he'd chosen not to wear a coat, despite my warning that it was really cold. He was standing there absolutely shivering. I put my arm round him to try and warm him up a bit, because I'm an arsehole like that. He quite rightly went and stood 20 feet away from the bus stop.

BebbanburgIsMine · 17/03/2025 23:40

@scalt

Thankyou for your reply.

No, no rebellion at all, glowing reports all round, teachers, Brownie and Guide leaders, even had one teacher begging me not to take DD1 out of her school. Maybe I was just lucky, but I wasn’t a rebellious teenager either.

WitchSharkadder · 17/03/2025 23:35

I thought I was a great mum to my 11 year old last week when I ordered him a much coveted t-shirt. It was supposed to be delivered today, but it’s been delayed until tomorrow and wouldn’t you know it it’s all my fault. Obviously I didn’t stress the importance of it being delivered on time enough to Evri…

I also had the audacity to ask my 14 year old how training went tonight. Officially the worst mum ever!

savethatkitty · 17/03/2025 23:29

Breathing.
Talking to them.
Looking at them.

So it is interesting that almost half the posts are former teenagers confessing how they were the cool teenagers (aka brats).

So the ultimate shame is to show them this thread and remind them that what ever they think the dynamic is now it is inevitable- nay destiny- that history will repeat itself and they WILL become mothers with recalcitrant dc and they will own the cringe fest legacy. 😄

Our youngest went through a phase where she constantly said “you can’t tell me what to do, I’m punk rock!”

She was being bossy the other week so I threw her favourite phrase back at her - if looks could kill I’d be well dead!

Can’t wait for her to have kids so we can teach them that phrase :D

I arranged for a plumber to come and fit new taps and mend out toilet this morning. I told DS23 last night so he could have a shower before the plumber arrived at 10.30. Apparently I ruined his day off because he didn’t get up in time so couldn’t have a shower before going out.

Well, that's just plain nasty! AND I bet you called him every 10 minutes from 8:30, when no reasonable person is out of bed and didn't send the plumber home, when he finally managed to crawl out of bed at the crack of 11.

I do know how you can live with yourself.
😪

Dontlletmedownbruce · 17/03/2025 21:43

I confirmed DS would be at training on a WhatsApp group message a few weeks ago, rather than sending a message individually to the coach's WhatsApp. Unforgiveable behaviour from a grown woman, making DS the laughing stock of his generation. I'd say they still talk of little else.

I’ve ruined DD2’s life over a pair of white crocs… DD’s crocs have been worn to death so I said I’d get her some new ones. She looked on the croc website and they are reduce.
Please, make it make sense!!!

To be honest, I'm sort of team DD here. Amazon are evil, exploitative, tax dodging bastards, with a near monopoly...

hazelowens · 17/03/2025 21:25

I apologised to my mum when I was 21/22 for being a brat. She accepted my apology and laughed wait till you have daughters. I had 3 sons and none of them were anywhere as bad as my sister and I lol. My sister has 2 girls so she is going to suffer soon lol

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 17/03/2025 20:42

@WendyA22 I had an orange car with a green door from the scrap yard. Imagine ruining your 15 years old life like that.

I mean as an adult I think it sounds unique and bet you never lost it in car parks...but yeah as a teen I'd have voluntarily put myself up for adoption!

kierenthecommunity · 17/03/2025 19:54

I was once mortified when aged around 14 my DM and her DP took me on holiday. There was a clubhouse with a disco and the pair of them had the absolute gall to get up and dance! Fancy wanting to enjoy yourself on holiday!

I meanwhile sat there with a face like they were drowning puppies in front of me.

Flozle · 17/03/2025 19:35

I had the temerity to have feet too small for the shoes my husband bought me for Christmas to fit her. 🙄

hobbcat · 17/03/2025 19:32

I asked my 15 DS if he’d just washed his hair. He hadn’t. Not a good start to our day

Towwanthustice · 17/03/2025 19:31

Absolutely everything I do!
Make her late for school ( she won't get out of bed). Starve her ( bc I won't make her a full on meal at 11pm).
Having a shamefully dirty car (only in her footwell).
I can't even spk to her on a morning because it makes her go slower.
Make her fat because I bought her a snack she begged me to buy...

Glad I'm not alone...oh and she's AUDHD and doesn't believe that either...
