Obviously I did it just to spite my 15yr old

I broke the shower this morning.
Obiously I did it purely to spite my 15yr old and no one else could possibly be as inconvenienced as her by having to have a bath instead.
What things have you done on purpose purely to make life difficult for your teen (according to your teen)?

Your 14 year old knows what a hoover is? Luxury!

To be fair she does like to clean her room, or preferably for me to clean her room. It has to be just so.

OnlyFrench · 23/03/2025 19:33

DD1 - I wore a pink coat to collect her from school and other kids could see me 😲😲
DD2 - I danced in front of her friend in my own kitchen. She was so ashamed she cried!

I am 51 and have never forgiven my mum for not buying me a pony!

I should probably start saving for the years of therapy she will need! 😂

Similar here, the hoover broke, I can’t afford a new one right now and my 14DD is really cross.

To be fair …. I was 13 going on 14.

Grandma: What movie do you want to see?
Me: Puberty Blues.
G’ma: Are you sure? It’s over 15’s.
Me: Absolutely. Mum and Dad took us to the drive in on the weekend to see James Bond. That’s over 15 so I am allowed.

We saw Puberty Blues. In 1981.

On the phone that evening
DM: You took my mother so see what?
DM: My sister and I have spent some years keeping your G’ma innocent of the literature and movies going around today. It has taken you one day to undo all our work. Thanks very much.

7.30 am

Her: You are the worst mother in the world. I hate you.
Me: I’m going back to bed.
Her. : Why?
Me: You are a teenager and you hate me. My pinnacle achievement for today has been realised so, I am going back to bed.
Her: But, but, but …

I asked my 16 yr old how college was, apparently I am just weird!

My daughter is only 11 and today we are the worlds worst parents because we don’t live in a big house in the middle of nowhere where and have enough space for her to have a couple of horses! 🙄

At around age 14-15 my mother ruined my life by offering my friends and I some homemade cake. I mean, did she mean to show us up as the poor folk who couldn't afford shop bought (I eventually realised homemade was a lot nicer!)

Comfort yourself in the knowledge that you aren't as evil as me, mine would like similar, plus a swimming pool. It doesn't have to be a big one, just 25 metres.

I mean that is quite cringe. 🤣

I took my punishment, learnt my lesson, and have never referred to vibes again

Oh, and on another occasion I took my daughter out to a cool part of London to do some shopping and buy hugely expensive street food that she'd seen on tiktok. Upon coming out of the tube and soaking up the street performer and the colour of the market and smell of food I turned to her and said 'this is definitely my vibe'. This was so mortifying that quite rightly I was blanked for the entire trip.

I'm paying £50 a week for an A level tutor in a subject my DS is struggling with. I am spending well over £2000 a year just to make his life miserable.

Every day when I drop mine off at school . My car is embarrassing as it's dirty (it's not) and how dare I drop off at places where everyone will see how poor we are. The car is only messy in her foot well, where she drops empty bottles and packets.
And how dare I do anything to draw attention to her as she then exits the car and slams the door so hard!.

The slamming of car doors!!! Wtaf is that about??

My ds does it and it actually hurts my ears!!

Years ago like most teachers in the UK I was subjected to 'Lauren', the Catherine Tate character, 'am I bovvered' etc. At the end of one lesson the worst culprit stayed behind and said she needed some help with her coursework, I replied 'Am I bovvered?' and she looked shocked, this went on for a couple of minutes until I said 'Not nice is it?' and we made plans for her to stay behind to sort the coursework out, she actually went as far as apologising. Next day I got a call from her mother and I thought Oh hell, her mother said Don't you ever talk to my daughter like that again, unless I'm there to enjoy it!

That is brilliant!! 🤣🤣

I'm going to steal "I'm punk rock" to use on my daughter.

I once said "I'm shook, is that how I say it?" to my daughter. She said "no. That isn't how you say it. YOU don't say it at all". Then gave me a withering stare and walked off😂

I returned a wave to one of her friends who I've known since nursery. My daughter was mortified because apparently you don't wave back. She gave me permission to do a chin nod in future to acknowledge but of course I still "just don't get it". I said it would be much easier if I just wave to her friends to start with in future. That went down well. 😂 Now I start to move my hand whenever I see one of her friends and she goes mad. So cruel!

Our youngest went through a phase where she constantly said “you can’t tell me what to do, I’m punk rock!”

She was being bossy the other week so I threw her favourite phrase back at her - if looks could kill I’d be well dead!

Can’t wait for her to have kids so we can teach them that phrase :D

I'm now 38 and can confirm that my dad is still the most mortifying man I've ever met. I love him so much but... my god. My sister in law got engaged recently and when she put out her hand to show my dad her ring, he kissed her hand. That man wouldn't know a social cue if it smacked him in the face (which she nearly did).

The same man who DID walk into the disco at 1am to pick me up when I was 13, actually walked right in. What a psycho. I was slow dancing with a boy in my year. I'm still sweating at the traumatic memory.

I swear I'm not even going to look at my children between the age of 11 up until they need help with a deposit for a house.

Hate to tell you but it won't stop then!

I make mine spit out their chewing gum and ask in French if they want to go to the toilet - the horror!

When they asked Can I have a ruler? I would reply Queen Victoria.

I ruin the lives of many teenagers by insisting they tie up long hair and wear safety goggles before using fire and chemicals.

I’m a Science teacher. I’m sorry for trying to keep you safe and stop your long hair catching fire!

I think many of my 6th form Chemistry friends would have like the teacher to have stopped them using neat acetone to remove Friday afternoon nail varnish, ready for the weekend. Their nails did, eventually, grow back!

GoldOP · 18/03/2025 18:30

Refusing to let them have phones in their bedroom overnight until they had finished school, dd said it made her look like a baby, friends laughed at her, it’s so unfair blah blah. She got over it 😂
