All crime docs are about men killing women!

I was trying to find somehing to watch on Netflix last night. Looked at crime documentaries. They're all about men killing women. Or men killing children.

I like a bit of true crime sometimes, but it's actually too much. What the hell have we been putting up with over decades and centuries! There was a guest on Steven Bartletts Diary of a CEO who said the most dangerous person to a woman is her husband! I believe it. We've taken this shit for too long.

You certainly do @Anchorage56
They come through loud and clear.

Stop and take a minute! I'm talking about those people. Read my posts again. I dont think you should be involved in a thread that started off based on true crime documentaries and violent crime if it's too upsetting for you.

Don't be so patronising.
I'm not sure you fully understand that true crime documentaries are based on real, actual crime. There are people who experience these events and therefore want to challenge ignorant views.

And why does it matter that you were talking about a particular programme. Those are clearly your views.

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ do not say what my views are or are not. I say what my views are.

I'm talking about the effin tv program! It was a program with actors.
I gave a real life example. And you're still trying to justify murder.

Are you for fucking real? Making murder understandable??

Have you any idea what it's like to have a family member murdered and to have people sympathise with the man who killed her?

I think if it was a woman who had murdered her husband after snapping at being verbally abused I think the same people would sympathise with a female killer. Its nothing to do with sex just their mindset about what makes murder understandable.

Countless evils have been carried out by men of my own generation, but between the porn apocalypse and the likes of Conor McGregor, Trump, and Tate, and the celebration of hardman bullshit, it's terrifying to think of what's coming next.

I thought exactly the same. Also there was a program called The Jury were a man took a hammer to his wife's head, went out to the shed, then came back and strangled her to death. Quite a few members of the jury were doing everything they could to excuse this man's actions. Women were sympathising with him and at one point someone said "she was asking for it wasn't she". Absolutely infuriating.

Unfortunately this is really common, I've complained about new articles which seem to excuse the actions of a man apparently driven to murder his wife.

When my mum was killed by her partner a number of people suggested she asked for it because she was leaving him for another man.

Was that the program that used actors in some kind of social experiment based on a real life court case?

I watched a two-parter on Netflix the other night about a case of very serious female on male domestic abuse ('My Wife: My Abuser'), @SwoopDog . Definitely worth a watch, but as you say, an anomaly amongst the sea of male-on-female related true crime docus.

At one point in the programme, a female detective cried as the victim related what his wife had done to him, and told him she was so sorry about what he'd been through. Cynical me does wonder whether she shows so much empathy towards FEMALE victims or has just become inured to it all when it's a woman.

Unfortunately i thought my exh was decent as well. He looks like a dream from the outside. Helpful, kind, respectful, well spoken and mannered. And then the well-hidden secret side that i couldnt live with. In his words, most guys are like him. Who knows..my dad treated my mum badly, my uncle makes 'innocent ' jokes about my figure every time i see them, my brothers.. they also look decent but who knows.

I think most men watch porn ( and don't care about the female-expoloiting industry behind it) and put value on women based on things they do to them (gives me sex, makes me look good, looks after me and the kids/house/finances/cooks). But very few actually value the person besides these functions. If im wrong, show me the evidence! Id love to be proven wrong!

Theres is no way of proving whether or not most men value the women in their lives. But just remember there are plenty women who are happily married, happily dating, happily single. Plenty happy women in the world. It ain't all doom and gloom out there.

I do know there are plenty of decent men, including my DH and 2 BILs and a few male friends who I’ve known for many years. However, the difficulty we have is that we can’t know who is genuinely a good person and who is putting on an act.

My DM is a very bright woman, but she thought my F was a decent man. The reality was that he was sexually abusing my DSis and me. It came as a massive shock to her when we told her about it around 10 years ago.

I discovered that the husbands of a few friends weren’t the decent men I thought they were.

My DH agrees. He is disgusted by other men and has routinely stepped away from friendship groups.

He is a 50 year old man and in his exact words (he is beside me) "most men are scum".

It may not be in the form of murder or rape, but potentially sexual harassment, cheating, coersive control, being emotionally abusive or neglectful.

I was at a dinner party with 3 other couples last year and all the men joked that if they were women they would be lesbian because trying to find a decent guy is near impossible.

A few months later one of those wives left due to finding out the husband had been having a 7 year affair whilst working away.
I also know for a fact that one of the other wives is being financially and emotionally abused. She is on her way to leaving.

So even shitty men agree that most men are awful. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

I personally only know two decent men. I have been on this earth a while and I only know two men (including family and friends) who I with full faith could say are truly decent.

I know many, many, many more women who are beautiful people.

This isn't about hating men, it's about what I have experienced at the hands of men and what I see the women around me going through.

My husband has become very vocal about what women are facing and the rising violence. In no way is he offended by my opinions, as to him, they are simply fact.

Because if you are a decent, good person then why would you be offended? You can be confident in knowing it doesn't apply to you. You can have empathy for a group of people who have been systemically oppressed since the beginning of time.

Women are the most opressed group of people on earth. Yes it is to varying degrees, but in every culture, no matter how liberal vs misogynistic, women are at the bottom.

I saw that too and it was horrific, and definitely needs bringing to light.
I just hope people don’t use it as “look, it happens just as much to men”
I can’t stand people who bring up “but women do bad things too” the percentages are tiny. Men don’t live in fear of women.

The reason the female crime docs stand out (other than the fact there are far less) is because people are amazed/horrified that women can do these things. Because of course its normally men. Like the baby killers like Lucy Letby and Beverly Allit. People cant believe it. Nobody for one minute thinks that women kill as much as men.

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 18/03/2025 09:08

Men don’t live in fear of women.

And this is the point I've been trying to make to @Anchorage56

Nobody is denying that women can murder, abuse and generally behave terribly but it shouldn't be used to minimise the societal issue of toxic masculinity and violence against women and girls.

I said if we are going to include every tiny aspect of things a man could do wrong then at that point you cant deny that many women display just as bad behaviour

Just as bad behaviour? How many men a week are killed by their female partners?
How many men are raped?
How many men are subject to sexual assault or harassment for just going about their daily lives?

Toxic feminism was about looking into the future and putting another angle on where too much unfair negativity could lead.

You think calling out toxic masculinity is unfair?

So if that means I'm a misogynist- then no wonder you think 50% of the population are misogynist!

Where have I said that 50% of the population are misogynistic? I think you are misogynistic and I've based that on the things you've said.

I cant believe I'm having to explain this again- when I was talking about women being capable of behaving just as badly as men it was in relation to the posts where every little thing men do that's not saintly was being brought into the equation so at that point i pointed out that women are capable of bad behaviours too. Now do you disagree with that?

It wasnt toxic masculinity that I was disagreeing with it was OPs blatant prejudice to any human with a penis.

The 50% was a representation of the fact that roughly 50% of the population is male and plenty posters here were trying to suggest that it's MOST men who do these bad things. Now even just taking a woolfwhistle- how many cars with men in them drive past you without noise and how many woolfwhistle etc 🤔

And in terms of victim blaming it was the OP herself who said that women should have higher standards and by marrying and reproducing with certain men these women are part of the problem. Now I'm not one for using labels but I do believe that's called victim blaming!
