To think the average Londoner is better looking?

It’s true and if you want to see the best of the best visit Canary Wharf. The women are so stylish and slim and beautiful! And presumably intelligent as working in the banking sector

My local authority had the highest incidence of adult obesity in the UK according to one survey by Public Health England a few years ago.

I can believe that it might still be the case. Whenever I go into town I do see a lot of very overweight people.
It will be due to deprivation, poor job prospects, lack of good public transport and poorly educated people.

I think there's something in the walking more and being slimmer. I spent a week in London once and ate out every day, loads of cake and snacks. Walked an average of 25,000 steps a day compared to my usual 7000/8000 and lost 2lbs in a week!

They are slimmer due all the walking I guess.
They seem to eat better. More choice and money.
The dress sense is usually well put together and you get many individual styles.
Loads of confidence.

Londoners are (on average) younger, slimmer and richer than the rest of the country. All things that make it easier to be attractive.

I think this nails it, at least for the fashionable areas of London anyway.

I haven’t read the full thread but there was a study on this and in general people who are more attractive are more successful and gravitate towards London and the south east, I think I heard it being discussed on the radio or on a podcast.

I have a friend (male) with a Canadian partner (male). When they first got together (London), he would occasionally take his Canadian partner to Canal St in Manc and say, ‘see, it could have been a lot worse than me…’

Really? I couldn't wait to get away from London having lived there for 10 years. I hated it and never go back to visit. I don't think I'm uglier now although I am definitely older.

London is full of people from other countries so not sure whether you mean exclusively the British ones, or you are comparing with all the Italians, French, Spaniards, Russians etc.

in any case, people walk a lot in London so they tend to be slimmer.

I worked in London for 30 years. Unfortunately during that time I was not amazingly good looking, but the upside is that I haven't got uglier since moving away. The thing that has happened (much to my surprise), is that I have got older. Now when I go up to London, I notice how much younger most people are. That's obviously because most people are going to (central) London for work, so are working age, and not the high end of that, as by that time they are burnt out and heading for the provinces. That could account for all the beautiful people.

It's more diverse / international and more people are educated to a higher standard. So better diets and more fashion awareness.

People are noticeably a lot thinner.

More likely to be childfree in London, so more time to spend on selves.

London people are friendly. And from all over the world and have a different energy to the rest of UK. It’s having money ( in some cases) and an outlook as well. More open.

I agree! We live near Manchester and whenever I go into town it strikes me how unattractive 90% of the population is…. Down south generally people are more attractive it must be due to socio-economic factors.

Interestingly a school mum who moved here from Cape Town a couple of years ago said the most striking difference to her was how many disabled people we have, plus people who for want of a better word are ‘odd’. We have a lot of people who sit on benches with cans of beer half out of it, or sit vaping in their mobility school, talking to themselves.

I’m from London and go back regularly, can’t say I’ve noticed it there. However, on a trip to Liverpool, the men were decidedly better looking. So maybe it’s taste. Maybe it’s where you come from 🤷‍♀️

You’re kidding right? The last time I was there (and I lived in London a few years ago for a period of time) it was full of very shady, scruffy looking chancers (apart from the tourists who were pretty identifying).I’ve no doubt there are a few glamorous people there somewhere, this is London after all, but far more beautiful people in cities like Rome and Paris.

Perhaps it's because there are so many more young people in London. Youth and attractiveness are conflated in our society.
Plus, don't forget that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You might have a different idea of beauty from me.
Actually, I don't agree that people in London are more attractive. They don't smile; they just push past you at speed. But I'm an oldie talking!

It’s because they’re wealthier.

It’s awful and frankly heartbreaking to say it, but it’s true.

We live in a very well off part of the country- when we visit some v poor areas to visit family, often some of the people we see look under nourished and very unhealthy. It’s money and diet.

For sure mate, Londoners dazzle.

There is just so much more money in London - particularly central parts

I’m not from London but I absolutely love Londoners. The accent, the sense of humour, just everything. I don’t recognise what people say about them being unfriendly at all. I used to go a lot for work and quite a few people went out of their way to help me with directions and so on.

That’s because you’re much better, more authentic, salt-of-the-earth people than those weird Londoners you speak of. Just a better class of person.

I think people in London generally look slimmer and more stylish but not more attractive. I don't know if it's the pollution or tiredness from having so much entertainment on their doorstep, but I always think people look less healthy in London than 'up north'.
