My brother and his wife had a baby this morning and they have sent us no pictures. AM IBU to be a little sad/upset by this? My own 2 daughters have been waiting all day to see a picture of their new cousin but we've gotten nothing

Thanks for all the replies. Yes I've been on here long enough to know that many people on this site are crazy!

to be fair you have started one of the craziest threads I’ve recently read. How butt-hurt you are that your brother hasn’t jumped to sending a photo to you - so butt hurt you won’t just ask your mum. Which kind of shows it’s not about seeing a photo (which you could do easily) it’s about you not feeling ‘special.’ Which is pathetic

You said it hun! 😆

My God you are really annoyed about this thread aren't you?

Fagli · 16/03/2025 10:44

I think it says a lot about the state of the world today that someone can act so entitled about a photo when their brother has had a baby!! He’s excited, you’re not his priority at the moment, just get the picture from your mum if your priority is just looking at a photo and not an opportunity to berate your brother.

Honestly, people these days, I despair!!!

CandyCane457 · 16/03/2025 10:27

It sounds like you’re more bothered than the principle of the whole situation, than tne actual photos. If your ch are that sad that they’ve been waiting all day, can you not just ask your mum to send them on?
But it kind of seems like it’s less about actually seeing the photos and more the principle of the fact your brother hasn’t directly sent them to you, when he has to others. Which is fair enough, I’d be a bit miffed but also would get that he’s exhausted/busy/overwhelmed and he’ll do all the photo admin when he’s ready.

TheLongRider · 16/03/2025 10:11

I think that you are making a mountain out of a molehill. Your replies suggest that you will completely reconsider your relationship with your brother and his family just because you personally did not receive photos on the day of the baby's birth.

To take one small oversight and make it the basis of your future relationship with your brother and his family is completely disproportionate. Unless there is a massive backstory about a dysfunctional relationship, you are letting your hurt feelings dominate what should be a happy event.

If you continue with this attitude, it will spoil your relationships. Imagine having to tell your kids that they can't see their cousins because you didn't receive a baby pic on a specific day. That's a level of petty that seems ridiculous.

Well get to see the baby as soon as it's home. As there is no hiding away for weeks on end like some on this site seem to want to do.

Madness 😅

Good grief, at less than 24 hours after the birth, you're annoyed that you have not been sent your own personal photo, despite the fact that the couple have sent one to your mum, that you could easily get hold of. Get a grip and stop making it about you.

Exactly! 👏

BatchCookBabe · 16/03/2025 09:48

PonyPals · 16/03/2025 02:55

Oh my god the posters on here are just nuts!
it takes 5 second to send a pic. The OP has every right to be upset at her brother!

😂 LMFAO. Give over! OMFG! The entitlement from some on here!! I would be making you wait a week for a photo if you acted this bratty and entitled, as the OP! 😆

BatchCookBabe · 16/03/2025 09:45

Themaths · 16/03/2025 01:00

Don't be obtuse. Camera phones have been out for 20+ years, over two decades. It is usual that family are sent pictures.

20 years is 'a long standing tradition?!' 😂 And you call @HangryLilacGoose 'obtuse!' The irony! 😆

So what?

So it's hardly impossible or difficult for a mum to do

MasterBeth · 16/03/2025 08:59

PinkArt · 15/03/2025 22:19

Fuck me OP, you're taking a lovely thing that's happened today and making it all about you and 'the terrible state of the world'. Maybe your brother hates you and this is the first you're hearing, maybe they're joined a religion that doesn't believe in photography and maybe - call me crazy - they just forgot to hit send because they've been a tiny bit busy what with having had a baby today. Wow wow wow.

Exactly this ^^.

There are several perfectly reasonable reasons why he hasn't sent you a picture yet from dodgy hospital WiFi to clumsy fingers not hitting send. Maybe he was halfway through doing it when he had a chance to hold the baby and forgot to finish the job later.

But you are castrophising this to be about "the state of the world today" or your brother's lack of concern for you and your family.

"New baby sounds adorable. Are you OK for Mam to share the photos?"

MaltipooMama · 16/03/2025 08:40

When my little was was born around 9pm I FaceTimed my dad as he’s the closest person to me and I wanted to see his face, but as for “sending” pictures I didn’t do that until quite late the next day, my partner sent some to his parents and they distributed them to the rest of the family which I thought was quite normal?! We’d both been awake for 48 hours and I’d had problems during labour and required forcep delivery so sending multiple photos to different people was the last thing on our agenda

PrincessCalley · 16/03/2025 08:18

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 15/03/2025 22:40

You are making a big drama out of this ! YOU have started a thread on Mumsnet about it !!! and continue to argue your point with the majority of posters.

and as for having cuddles with baby tomorrow or Monday - don't expect that either.

surely you have been on Mumsnet to know that baby will be staying in Mum's arms for days yet...

and hopefully none of you including your children have a sniffle or a cold.

And the parents have a right to not send a picture, whether it's 5 seconds or 55 minutes to take.
People need to stop making other people's life events all about them.

Edited

This, I would be pretty pissed off if my husband/OH was spending time glue to the phone sending to all and sundry instead of supporting me and baby.

Themaths · 16/03/2025 01:00

Don't be obtuse. Camera phones have been out for 20+ years, over two decades. It is usual that family are sent pictures.

And they have been, the grandmother has been sent pictures, she can send them on. OP feeling that someone is obliged to send her pictures within her own timeframe is completely unreasonable, its incredible that this needs to be pointed out.

And OP asked if she was being unreasonable, yes she is, she is now arguing with the vast majority of responses that say, yes she is.

Love the notion that the STATE OF THE WORLD is summarised by your brother not sending a photo less than 12 hours after his child is born. This is embarrassing

I thought that, so melodramatic 😂 You’ll meet baby before long if you’re as close as all that op, who really cares about seeing a photo a day or two sooner?

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 16/03/2025 06:28

And I'm sure well get cuddles and all tomorrow or Monday.
Given previous threads on relatives wanting to be all over people's newborns, that a big assumption...
Your SiL might not want the baby pawded and handed from pillar to post - such protection is not a 'sad sign of the times'. It's perfectly natural to not want stragers being all over their baby, indeed, quite an inherent and unconscience natural reaction.
It is not a photo-op or a time to demand cuddles with a baby.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 16/03/2025 06:18

This is why I am glad I am an only child.
Such daft expectations of one's relatives are exhausting and so unnecessary.

Pippa12 · 16/03/2025 05:43

BatchCookBabe · 15/03/2025 23:33

Yeah, with our first born, (born at 11.30am,) we didn't tell anyone til 5pm that they had been born. It was too late for anyone to come visit then. The hospital's visiting hours were midday to 5pm on the ward I was on. So no-one could come. I didn't want anyone near. I wanted to wait until at LEAST the day after the birth.

I had been in labour for a day and a half, and had has a c-section, and I was shaking and trembling from the anesthetic, and felt weak and emotional. The last thing I needed was pushy, entitled, extended family members poking their face into the ward - and sticking around for 2-3 hours - when I was still fragile and vulnerable. The demands from some people to see a baby in the extended family, the second it pops out of the mother, is utterly gross, and breathtakingly entitled.

And don't even get me started on extended family members who want to be there even BEFORE the baby is born. As soon as the mother is rushed into hospital in labour! Hanging around the maternity wards, waiting for the baby to come. What the fuck is THAT all about?! Unless you are the mother of the baby, or the father, (or at a push, a sibling!) stay away!

Edited

She only want a picture 😂

I asked for a photo arounf 1pm today when my brother rang with the good news. I don't want to push it. Just disappointed as I'm sure my sister in law would have sent photos to her sisters. Mam got photos also. As I was talking to her and she mentioned it. It's only myself and my brother in family. Just disappointing is all.

It will look like a baby… mine had forceps marks everywhere and I felt kind weird sending photos. In the end sent one of his foot.

MindlessDaydream · 16/03/2025 05:24

You're allowed to be disappointed but not getting pictures has nothing to do with you. It's better to assume no ill intent, especially as she's just had a baby. Even if everything has gone well it doesn't mean it was a walk in the park for the baby to get here.

Ask your mother to see the pics and let it go.
