Bit embarrassing … or am I being over sensitive?

OP posts:

Sorry for not including much detail, I was rushing about a bit (tempted to say I was shoving food into my size 22 mouth …) It was just that though, my coat was on the back of my seat and my colleague said ‘size 22, wow, that would fit my mum!’

It is a colleague who is famed for putting her foot in her mouth so I probably wouldn’t be bothered if it hadn’t been so public!

Stes a bitch! I want to smack her for you!

pontipinemum · 16/03/2025 21:53

That does sound very rude and I'd have been embarrassed too.

14 is absolutely large. And indicates at a minimum overweight unless you’re 6’2. You can kid yourself it’s not but that doesn’t alter that it is.

You're so sure of yourself, yet so wrong.

I'm a size 14 at healthy BMI, and I'm tall but not 6' or over. Size 12 and people start commenting on how skinny I'm looking - but I'd still buy a 14 coat for shoulder room and arm length.

You might be right that it's 'likely' or 'common' for size 14 to be in the overweight range, but stop trying to invent details that just aren't true.

Surely if you're a size 22 it's not a secret you're big

So you should be ok being publicly ridiculed & humiliated for it then?

JillMW · 16/03/2025 21:03

Pimple bum I kind of would like to agree with you we should not need to be embarrassed but I have large feet and hands and have gone through life with people looking down their nose at me and saying things like “ I bet you can’t get nice shoes with feet that size” or “ wow how did you get a ladies ring to fit your finger?”. My daughter is very tall and pretty much everyday someone says to her to her “ wow you are tall, what is the weather like up there”. Ditto a friend who is short is asked if she bought her outfit in the childrens department.

Can someone explain what is bad about a coat size?
I think I'm missing something.

We're all missing something, specially missing the OP
Maybe she's gone off to look for her coat

So why would a colleague need to laugh about it/your clothes size and say they'd fit her parent?

Id be fuming, she was being an asshole

She'll walk like John Wayne surely?

It’ll be worrying when she starts talking like him:

”Life is tough, pilgrim - it’s even tougher if you’re stupid.”

You’re obsessed! Honestly, back off.

I am replying to people who’ve asked me a question or replied to my comments. Why do you keep posting just to tell me I’m obsessed. It’s weird!

Theywerebrilliant · 16/03/2025 19:57

Everyone knows it's insulting to say you look like or dress like someone's mum even if your mum is Joanna Lumley

I guess so. I'm not saying it wasn't rude seeming.

Teateaandmoretea · 16/03/2025 19:09

You really do have an odd obsession. Re- read your posts.

The average adult will have an unhealthy waist measurement so handwringing over this making them ‘large’ is weird.

Edited

The average adult is overweight. The average adult is large. Literally. Are you suggesting because the average adult is large they are now small? Don’t be ridiculous.

BigBoden · 16/03/2025 20:32

Exactly

Dawnb19 · 16/03/2025 20:16

I think your being a bit oversensitive. You can see someone's size by looking at them. I'm a size 12-14 not but I'm still wearing last year's size 16-18 maternity coat as it comfortable and warm. Even when I was a size 10 I wore a size 12-14 tops as my boobs are big.

Well evidently this colleague couldn't see by looking, as clearly she felt the need to announce op's coat size to the whole office...🤔

pollymere · 16/03/2025 20:05

This isn't an implication it's about size. More that you're the same size as their Mum. Maybe they thought their Mum was vastly bigger than you? Who knows?

I think you're being oversensitive.

HughGrantsfurrysquirrel · 16/03/2025 20:01

Only got as far as page 2 of the responses, so guessing a few others have written something to this effect!! My curiousity was sparked, so I just HAD to Google "unusually large pelvis." 'Tis indeed a thing. The correct medical term being: "Pelvis Justo Major!" I've learnt something new today. Yeay!! X

TheEveningSun · 16/03/2025 20:00

Spirallingdownwards · 15/03/2025 16:59

But you are saying this as though a size 14 is big? Which makes you sound just as judgy.

Not judgy but factual - 14 is is usually overweight depending on the height. I’m 170cm and when I was size 12 so 74kg I was just on the overweight border.

Theywerebrilliant · 16/03/2025 19:57

BobbyBiscuits · 16/03/2025 19:52

In a sense she could've been saying she thought it would suit her mum and happened to be her size? Did she actually yell out 'oh, it's a size 22!'
That does seem unnecessary. You know what size clothes you wear.

I guess cut the labels out? And stick them on her clothes when she's in the bathroom. and just give her a quizzical look.

“Well, colleague, if we’re talking about size, let’s see how your dick looks on this deal.”

honestly…

Stressfordays · 16/03/2025 19:21

Oh and for the person commenting about a size 14 being overweight, I'm 5'8 so if I'm a size 14, my BMI is around 24/25. My BMI is currently 18 due to over active thyroid and I am quite unwell at a size 6-8 🤦

Stressfordays · 16/03/2025 19:17

I'm a size 6-8 clothes and wear a size 14 coat because I like room to layer up underneath. I feel the cold so often wear 4-5 layers underneath in the winter 🤷 It's normal to size up in a coat.

Teateaandmoretea · 16/03/2025 19:17

greengreyblue · 16/03/2025 17:43

Hmmmm not sure about that. Statistics will show that the more overweight you are, the rate of morbidity and disease rises . You can’t escape that fact.

😂😂😂😂

Yeah and clothes size is a good measure I’m sure, it’s why its recorded in medical records 🙄

Bitofanchange · 16/03/2025 19:12

Ritzybitzy · 16/03/2025 17:47

Which I stated in previous comments.

The reality is if you look at the size dimensions of a person who is wearing size 14 clothes they score unhealthy in waist measurements and the average weight of that person falls firmly into overweight. Those are the facts. There will be isolated exceptions but I also stated that.

I don’t have an odd obsession. I made a statement and overly sensitive hypocrites are up in arms because it’s clearly fine to be overweight or large but how dare anyone suggest they are. The horror.

You’re obsessed! Honestly, back off.
