To be embarrassed my colleague announced my coat size to whole office

Bit embarrassing … or am I being over sensitive?

Sorry for not including much detail, I was rushing about a bit (tempted to say I was shoving food into my size 22 mouth …) It was just that though, my coat was on the back of my seat and my colleague said ‘size 22, wow, that would fit my mum!’

It is a colleague who is famed for putting her foot in her mouth so I probably wouldn’t be bothered if it hadn’t been so public!

Perhaps you should say something like ‘oh, clearly size is important to you, then are you not worried about your own genetics?’

Ritzybitzy · 15/03/2025 20:32

Not really unless you’ve cleared 6 foot.

Someone else made a reference to a size 14. I replied. Everyone else got offended.

Exactly as you intended. 🙄

Well who knows, apart from the OP who couldn't be arsed to tell us 😬🤣

She did tell us. The coat was on the back of her chair. Colleague who is noted for this kind of thing looks at the label, announces the size to the rest of the room, with the comment that it would fit her mum. What’s that if not being an arsehole ?

MizzThang · 23/03/2025 13:08

You’ve left out too many details for this to be someone else’s fault alone.

Jade520 · 22/03/2025 19:23

Yes it was just plain rude to announce it to the world like that.

It depends if it was meant in a malicious way or if they are just generally a big mouth and an idiot. But yeah, don’t let this spoil your day. Better to tell them to mind their own business.

OldCottageGreenhouse · 16/03/2025 02:36

I worked with her. None of us believed she was a size 14 until she showed us and then ‘showed’ her pelvis through her clothes, it is much bigger than average but you can’t see it to look at her.

Sorry OldCottageGreenhouse but it has been a quiet day at my work and the boss is away, my colleagues have been just as fascinated with the large pelvis as me (well they wanted to know what i was laughing at so hard I was almost crying when i was reading the 'fun fact' teambuilding message). We've been reading up on it all day!
Best you don't tell your colleague I think . . .

JessicaRabbit6 · 18/03/2025 23:16

I cut size labels out of my clothing especially jackets coats cardis and I have been size 10-18 back to 10 up down since having kids. I would have been annoyed if someone blurted it out - any size!! I would say if OP was self conscious she would have cut them out I think it’s more of the way her colleague blurted that out with ‘that would fit my mum’ either meaning that’s small for a 22 or just complete word vomit

I never said I want the thread to die? It's all quite amusing to myself tbh.

It’s amusing to me. Particularly the rando who keeps replying to me asking why I am obsessed.

Bitofanchange · 18/03/2025 07:53

Ritzybitzy · 18/03/2025 06:22

I didn’t say the makes ignore. I said compare to the the number of times.

i am also not the one screaming let the thread die. People like you are. Whilst simultaneously replying. If YOU want it to die YOU stop replying. You don’t get to demand that I stop replying whilst you’re replying.

The irony

But you don't ignore her you respond!! Another incorrect piece of information from you.

I’m just disappointed that we appear to have moved on from the unusually large pelvis.

Me too. So many questions.

ToWhitToWhoo · 17/03/2025 21:58

The point, which seems to be getting increasingly lost in this back-and-forth on this thread, is that it's not just a matter of it being rude to comment publicly on someone's coat size, or even on their weight in general. It's rude to comment publicly on ANYTHING about someone else's body!

If it' were a one-off, one might forgive it; we've all made a 'faux pas' on occasion. But it sounds as though this colleague has form for this sort of thing.

I didn’t say I didn’t respond. I said count how many times I haven’t despite being quoted. It’s hilarious the hypocrisy. Stop quoting me and I won’t have anything to respond to. But you can’t have it both ways - you don’t get to keep enabling with me and telling me I’m wrong ANd tell me I cannot respond.

MyLimeGuide · 17/03/2025 21:47

Ritzybitzy · 17/03/2025 20:45

Literally every single time I open mumsnet I get a notification telling me someone has quoted me. How about people just stop repeatedly replying and let it die? I’m not going to change my view although it’s an interesting (wrong) snap judgement you’ve made.

You're actually morbidly obese?!

MyLimeGuide · 17/03/2025 21:45

Ritzybitzy · 17/03/2025 20:12

Stop replying to me then! Seriously. You keep posting random stuff for no reason at all! Count how many times you’ve addressed me compared to the number of times I’ve ignored you.

Bitofanchange · 17/03/2025 20:48

People are quoting you to show you how many disagree with you.

Maybe turn the option for notifications off and you won’t be shown and you can let the thread die?

Or you could you just stop relentlessly quoting me? Why are you so obsessed with my comments on this thread?

Jeez you’ve just popped up again, can’t believe you’re still going. You may be better off setting up some kind of exercise class for the poor souls who aren’t as ripped as you

Definitely a weird and bitchy thing to do, having read your clarification.
