Classmate with TV in bathroom

My son goes to a state school and his classmate keeps going on about having a TV in his bathroom. Aibu to think this is the most pointless and ridiculous thing ever!?
No amount of money would make me even consider having that!

my son said he keeps bragging about it so I said he should tell him to take a book to the bog instead!!! 🤣

No sneering seems more your thing

Yes definitely!

Wouldn't be for me because I only have one TV in the house and don't often watch that. But I can't see the problem if other people do and there are many other equally unnecessary things people enjoy.

People like different things...

I can see why children would be impressed though! 😁

Not something I would brag about!

No sneering seems more your thing

I've stayed in hotels with TV's above the bath - it's lovely!

Nice hot bubble/jaccuzi bath, glass of wine and a good TV show. Bliss Grin

He seems spoilt and entitled and it’s not the only thing he’s bragged about! @pizzaHeart

So what ? He is 11.
My cousin is always bragging about this and that and she is 72 y.o.

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 12:42

whatever floats your boat

I couldn’t get excited about a tv in the bathroom, nor could I get upset about an 11 year old bragging about one. I’m sure his classmates will set him straight if he’s being annoying and he’ll learn to zip it, as most children do eventually.

HanSB · 15/03/2025 12:31

Our first flat was a batchelor pad beforehand as the guy had a small tv mounted above back of the toilet - I guess so he could watch it for the couple mins that he did a wee!

Lilofthevalley · 15/03/2025 12:30

I don't believe in good taste, just different taste.

Bitching and sneering about other people's tastes is not something to be proud of though.

Not a brag as I don't think I've ever actually told anyone else before, but we put a TV into our ensuite so we can watch films in the bath. It wasn't that expensive (£500 maybe), and we do also have built in speakers in the bathroom to bluetooth radio/music/podcasts while we're in the shower...

My house is very tastefully decorated, thanks - it just has a TV in the bathroom... like you probably have a TV in the living room or kitchen... We don't have a TV in the bedroom though.

Exactly like mine. If you are spending a lot of money upgrading a bathroom, it makes sense to put in a little extra to make go from nice and functional, to being a room you enjoy relaxing in, bathrooms aren’t just for pooping.

Also a quick shower on a morning, or hot shower with a bit of mood lighting and music on the evening can be the difference between it energising you vs relaxing you for bed so 💯 on board with getting the Bluetooth speakers in, I love them

Have you ever heard 10 year olds talk OP - they all brag all the time (your child included). It's harmless and just what they do. I can't fathom why you are upset by a small child boasting. If it was a work colleague then yes that would be weird. We have a bath rack that the ipad fits in (and a g&t) so I can pretend I'm far too classy to have a tv embedded in the wall but still get to watch MAFS Australia whilst having a soak.

rwalker · 15/03/2025 11:48

Bathroom tv’s are a few hundred £ now just slightly more than a good bathroom cabinet there no longer a lavish expensive luxury

Boreded · 15/03/2025 11:46

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 11:20

And come in no one likes the kid who constantly brags!!! In my sons class everyone has the same gripes about him!

Imagine being adults and bitching because an 11 year old brags 🫣

TortolaParadise · 15/03/2025 11:46

When house hunting I viewed a couple of houses with a 'bathroom TV'. Perhaps it was already there.

Wackadaywideawake · 15/03/2025 11:44

On my wedding night we stayed in a hotel that had two freestanding baths next to each other, and a TV.

My husband put on bloody Match of the Day.

Wish now I hadn’t given him that BJ.

Boreded · 15/03/2025 11:43

It’s not that expensive to have a tv fitted into the wall at the foot of the bath…I got one put in when we last did our bathroom. I think it was about £600, and when it is off it just looks like a mirror.

i can’t use it personally because I need glasses which steam up if I had them on in the bath, but my husband likes to catch up on shows he watches without me.

On the flip side, we don’t have a TV in the bedroom…and I find having one there to be odd (but understand why others do it)

loadalaundry · 15/03/2025 11:28

@Gregoriouppy but is it that much of a stretch to take the ipad into the bath or shower? Sometimes I just get engrossed in something & want to finish watching/listening.

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 11:25

loadalaundry · 15/03/2025 11:21

Bit bizarre but I find it weird that people have TVs in their kitchens and dining rooms too,

I also use my iPad in the kitchen, if i'm cooking, cleaning up etc I might watch a film, listen to a podcast, browse recipes.

Me too

I work with someone who has a TV in the bathroom!

Hoppinggreen · 15/03/2025 11:23

I probably wouldn't bother myself but I have stayed in hotels where there is one and I had a lovely bubble bath and a glass of wine while watching TV.
It does seem to bother you unduly OP though that this boy has one at home

AquaPeer · 15/03/2025 11:23

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 10:58

It’s true though money can’t buy taste! Many examples of that out in the real world.

I never understand why people say this. Why would money buy taste. What does that even mean? Who says tvs in bathrooms are bad taste?

BlueBatsAndOranges · 15/03/2025 11:23

Gregoriouppy · 15/03/2025 11:06

I’ve taught them not to!

Maybe teach your kids not to sneer at other children too? You could set an example by not starting a thread on MN sneering at an 11 year old chid for what you think is so distasteful. Oh wait…

OMG, I'd forgotten this. I stayed in the swankiest hotel once (got upgraded). The bathroom had a huge adjacent dressing room.

In front of the bath, was a TV embedded in the wall. I'm not a huge TV fan, but the luxury of watching TV in the bath, with a glass of bubbly next to me was fabulous. So far removed from my daily life it was surreal.

I had an upgrade like that once too @TheAmusedQuail .. it was brilliant.
Bubble bath , glass of wine and nibbles .
I totally loved it 🥰
