Posting hospital pictures

I don’t know if it’s just me but i get fed up or just very irritated at people constantly posting pictures of them in hospital stuff that’s wrong with them etc. I just find it draining. I just feel illnesses are very personal and private unless raising awareness which I get but this isn’t for awareness it just seems attention seeking.
ive got to the stage where I’ve been ignoring it and feeling numb

OP you obviously know this person relatively well and seems they must have an ongoing medical issue by the sounds of things? I’m struggling to understand why this is bothering you - if it’s a big part of her life at the moment it’s bound to be something she’s likely to share.

Agree with others though if it’s annoying you this much just hide their social media profile.

It's bum worms.

If someone just posts an IV pic or a hospital waiting room pic I can only assume they have intractable bum worms and that's why they're too embarrassed to say what they're there for.

Constantly?
Really?

Irish24 · 14/03/2025 18:15

This person is also in a group chat of mine too and posting it in there as well. I’ve muted the chat and can’t leave because some good friends are in it. She’s more an acquaintance than a friend. I don’t respond to it but it’s hard when you click in and it’s there

I agree. I remember seeing my niece in a hospital bed. With a a minor ailment while I was in the middle of chemotherapy and not telling anyone. I wondered then at the motivation ? Why? It's blatant attention seeking

But when it’s constant it does get very tiring

If you don’t really like the person and find them tiresome, just unfollow their profile or hide them from your feed. If you’re not close then they’re probably not thinking about you and your response when they post. If they want to let you know personally when they’re unwell, they’ll text you.

Then remove them from your SM, you're choosing to still have them on there.

I think everyone is allowed to have their own feelings and choose to not share if they don’t want to or share if they do. I’m not generally down on people who are seeking attention: if somebody is sad, lonely, feels ignored or as though nobody cares about them, whatever it is that leads them to want to generate attention for themselves by posting about being in hospital then ultimately that’s somebody who probably isn’t in a great place emotionally or with their self esteem and is trying to get people to notice them. If sending a message hoping they get well soon is what it takes to give them a bit of validation - well, that’s no skin off my back, and I can be thankful that I have good mental health and brilliant self esteem and don’t have to feel the same.

Yanbu.

The photo of the drip going into the arm with the vaguest caption about whats wrong with them. Or literally just a check in. And when people inevitably ask, the response is "I'll DM you hun".

Attention Whores 🙄

I think it depends how is done for example my daughter was in hospital for a long time and people did want updates, i don't have loads of people on my social media and i posted positive updates only, e.g i posted to say she had recovered well after surgery rather than posting my worries before she went to surgery.

That seems fine but it’s just the pictures with no explanation and pictures of medication that they are on. I don’t know I just find it strange and bizarre.

I’ve a cousin that posted a picture on social media of an IV drip in her arm with no information. I dislike said cousin.

All social media is attention seeking.

Not sure that illnesses have to be personal and private though, if someone wants to use social media to get a bit of sympathy and support then why not? Much better than struggling alone imo.

It’s even worse when it’s a drip feed and they don’t say why they are there. Massively attention seeking

This is exactly what this person posted. We all know what it is and it must be awful to constantly be in and out oh hospital but we don’t need to constantly be hearing about it and I don’t know what else they want us to say or do other than ‘hope you feel better soon’. Phones and social media of someone in a vulnerable state whether you posted it yourself or not I just don’t understand
