Posting hospital pictures

I don’t know if it’s just me but i get fed up or just very irritated at people constantly posting pictures of them in hospital stuff that’s wrong with them etc. I just find it draining. I just feel illnesses are very personal and private unless raising awareness which I get but this isn’t for awareness it just seems attention seeking.
ive got to the stage where I’ve been ignoring it and feeling numb

Posting photos of vulnerable children who cannot give informed consent should never be a God given right for anyone, whether they're ill or not.

As long as you've never posted a single picture of your child on any social media, that's an absolutely valid position to hold.

My favourite is….

them: posts hospital picture
their friends posts: what’s wrong hun?
them: I’ll PM you hun

TheaBrandt1 · 14/03/2025 19:11

I have never seen this must be a particular type one who I do not interact with thankfully

Constantly?
Really?

Yes everyday really

How often are you seeing this? Why don’t you just curate your social media so it’s only people you actually like, you’re not obliged to have people in your feed who piss you off.

I think it’s really weird you follow people who do commonly do such things

I have a niece who was constantly posting this sort of stuff on SM. Checking in at the hospital on Facebook or posting photos. Then the comments were all "lots rong hun?" and her replies were "Ill PM you babs two many snakes on here."

"Just me and the kids now hun, don't need nobody else" 😂

Cucy · 14/03/2025 19:03

This is why I came off Facebook.
So many attention seekers.

I wish people wouldn’t comment and give them the attention. They should just be ignored.

I also hate the constant, to me, miserifest of adverts about illness and death. For example, the radio ad about dementia. Mum died the first time from dementia when she forgot how to do her famous roast dinner, then she died again from dementia when she forgot who I was, she finally died from dementia a third time on march 10th. They they go on about the dementia society will always be with you,I have seen people talking positively about livIng with dementia whilst telling you it will be difficult. If I had early dementia the advert would make me weep.

Sadly, there are parents who if they weren't allowed to post pictures of their children in hospital/with medical equipment, they'd never be able to post any pictures at all. I trust they're exempt from your displeasure?

You know this thread is not about the parents of genuinely ill children.
So don't pick that fight.

The poster two above you is criticising exactly that sort of parent.

Yeah this is the kind of blatant attention seeking post that grates on me. And then when someone inevitably asks what's wrong the reply Is "I'll pm you hun".

Aye, she did the same thing. I sometimes wonder if they have no real friends, so feel like they have to get attention. And, some others use social media like a diary/journal.

There are a few I’ve unfollowed.

And when people “check in” at said hospital with nothing else said on the post to gain comments. Sad attention seeking, it is quite boring.

I don't actually have FB but whenever I hear about those kinds of posts I've always wondered if their even in the hospital. Or just stood nearby and checked in for comments and likes.

Even worse when they're photos of their kids, or other vulnerable unsuspecting relatives who can't give informed consent.

I scrolled past a two year old little girl last night. She is in hospital with cancer and she looked so sad when her mum was putting the camera in her face on TikTok live.

Iknowaboutpopular · 14/03/2025 18:11

Yanbu.

The photo of the drip going into the arm with the vaguest caption about whats wrong with them. Or literally just a check in. And when people inevitably ask, the response is "I'll DM you hun".

Attention Whores 🙄

Edited

Drives me mental when people do that. They are waiting and hoping and pining for people to ask what’s wrong. It’s naff as fuck… and I never ask.

It’s when they are posting selfies in the back of an ambulance. They should get a smack around the head and kicked out the door.

Then there’s the ones who post IVs. I used to follow one girl who would be constantly in hospital, she would rotate between different ones and smirk with excitement when she was in a hospital bed.

When my dad was suffering through his final weeks someone I know (who is a know drama llama) keep telling me I should get a photo of him because they wanted to see what he looked like. At the time I was too tired and dazed and just kept saying no. But looking back now I'm more like WTF.

Zeroperspective · 14/03/2025 18:37

This reminds me of two posts I have made, the first I posted a pic of me in the ambulance BUT I said what was wrong and that given i needed to be monitored I was posting so people could keep me company (which they did and I ended up catching up with friends I don't normally chat too which was a lovely bonus)
My second post was very tongue in cheek and basically said I was annoyed that I forgot to post and "check in" at a&e as I was now home so I had missed my attention seeking opportunity, I didn't say what was wrong and replied to any comments with I'll PM you babes 😂
I agree the attention seeking posts are annoying and it sounds like what this acquaintance of yours is doing, however in general most of the people I know are either taking the easy option to update everyone in one go rather than lots of individual messages or they are looking for company and those types of posts don't annoy me at all.

I’ve a cousin that posted a picture on social media of an IV drip in her arm with no information. I dislike said cousin.

I don’t have an issue with it at all.

I hate seeing hospital pictures as well, and that includes people on the news. Some are to garner attention, like the granny who went to Disney Florida and fell ill. Kids especially o don”t like, especially when they’re in a coma overuse ill.

Pre-internet days, my dc was in hospital and my mother took pictures of him. I don’t know why and I’ve never wanted to see them . It wasn’t a holiday!!
