DH accidentally let baby eat some cinnamon bun?

AIBU to be annoyed by this... DH had my 6mo and he was eating a cinnamon bun. He said baby grabbed it (she's very fast with her hands) and brought it to her mouth. He immediately stopped her but not before he said she ate a tiny amount of it. Baby is acting fine and no reactions or anything but I'm still annoyed? I'm strict with what she eats don't want her eating processed foods, and obviously no added sugars until 2. She's only had a handful of freshly made fruits and veggies since starting solids at 6 months, I guess now we can add cinnamon bun to the list.

AIBU to be annoyed when it was an accident? I didn't go mad at him or anything but it's been nagging at me since it happened.

lol at the no added sugar till age 2, why is that the magical age? I’d apologise for your overreaction.

Theres quite a lot of good research around this. It includes increasing the amount of savory meals babies eat. The diets have changed so much in the last 20 years with much more fruit and sweet veg added to puree.
The OP is making reasonable choices about her babies health by not introducing sugar but unnecessarily worrying about an insignificant accident.

Be careful it's a gateway bun. Before you know, baby will be sneaking out to go to Gregg's for doughnuts, apple turnovers, Chelsea buns. Who knows where it could lead?

In the next few months, I can guarantee that she will also manage to eat small amounts of carpet, fluff, clothing, soil and anything else that she can get her hands on. She will be fine.

........and don't forget the worms in the garden!

This'll make you feel better, @August24Mama. My friend and I were at a cafe; she had her 4 month old baby on her lap. We were chatting away so much that she hadn't even started eating her cake, when I looked down at the baby and said, "Er, is she meant to be eating that?" The 4 month old baby had a fistful of cake which she was merrily chomping on, and had clearly been doing it for a while, as about a quarter of the cake had gone.

She has just turned one, and will happily eat anything and everything put in front of her, or put in front of anyone in her general vicinity.

Also, my nephew once ate bird poo, while in the care of his mum, who's a consultant paediatrician.

Don’t worry I found DD1 giving DD2 licks of her solero at 8 weeks 😂

My brother shared his toast with me at that age.

Sharing is caring!

I hate to break this to you and others, but many years ago we were told we could start weaning on to solids from 3-4 months onwards, and our babies didn't die.........🤣

When she’s gone through her American candy, junk food, Red Bull and vaping phases which they all try regardless of how many organic fruits and veg you weaned them on as per Annabel Kramer you’ll look back on a mouthful of cinnamon bun for what it is.

babyproblems · 14/03/2025 07:10

Your child might be needing/wanting more than just fruit & veggies at 6 months. Everyone is different but by then my DS was eating / trying all types of food and pretty much on a way to meal routine and still having milk. A hard truth: one day your child will probably eat a McDonalds and smoke / vape at least once! Not to mention alcohol. Be sensible by all means but reasonable.

Is this a wind up ?? It wasn’t crack

This! ⬆️ I thought this was going to be a panic because she's deathly allergic or something. Unclench. It's fine.

TurbulentPriest · 14/03/2025 07:07

My friend’s baby ate a wax crayon - they only realised when he did a blue poo

Brilliant 😂

autisticbookworm · 14/03/2025 07:04

Some posters are being a bit mean. I remember those early weening days you do want to get it right and There is a massive leap from fruit and veg to cinnamon bun! But she will be fine and no harm done.

Annettecurtaintwitcher · 14/03/2025 07:02

A cinnamon bun is food, your baby is 6 months old. There is really nothing to worry about here.

Bubblemonkey · 14/03/2025 06:56

As long as it isn’t a space cake, she’ll be fine.

SallyWD · 14/03/2025 06:55

Huge overreaction. You can't go through parenthood with kevel of stress and fear

Teaandtoastserveddaily · 14/03/2025 06:55

Im obviously a dreadful parent because sharing a cake with my 8 month old is one of my favourite things 😅

You do sound very anxious op, which i empathise with as I'm an anxious mum too. But a little bit of cinammon roll won't do your baby any harm 🥰

Alittlebit9 · 14/03/2025 06:53

OP, my sister has PPA and I know what that can look like. Take a deep breath, rationalise, it will be absolutely fine ❤️

AgricolaOrBed · 14/03/2025 06:51

My first popped a desiccated cat poo into his mouth. My second had a thing for eating live garden snails. Completely horrible, but they’re healthy strapping teenagers now with no ill effects.

Ladyzfactor · 14/03/2025 06:50

Sounds like you need to avoid social media, and realize that pretty much all mom social media influencers are mostly flat out lying about their lifestyle to get money from anxious mothers. As a side note my mother used to bring up the time she stopped me from almost eating cat poop. God only knows what she didn't catch me eating 😬

Yuja · 14/03/2025 06:49

Bless you. My baby ate the mud off my trainer at about that age. She's 12 now and just fine.

Twiglets1 · 14/03/2025 06:36

DelphiniumHolly · 13/03/2025 23:00

It’s just a bit of bun…

Wait until baby is crawling and eating chips off the floor at soft play.

Or food from the cat bowl at their cousin's house.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/03/2025 06:36

I remember a story I read on here (I think) about a mom who was convinced her baby would only eat organic everything and was a bit uptight about it. When her baby started crawling she found him one day, freezer open, eating a findus crispy pancake straight out of the box 😆

Glad you’ve relaxed a bit and took the pasting you got very graciously!

Sallysoup · 14/03/2025 06:29

RTFT people. Op fair play to you, I was side eyeing your early posts too but you took it on the chin. See if your GP can offer any more support now, because once your baby is crawling/toddling nothing is safe from being eaten 😅
