DH accidentally let baby eat some cinnamon bun?

AIBU to be annoyed by this... DH had my 6mo and he was eating a cinnamon bun. He said baby grabbed it (she's very fast with her hands) and brought it to her mouth. He immediately stopped her but not before he said she ate a tiny amount of it. Baby is acting fine and no reactions or anything but I'm still annoyed? I'm strict with what she eats don't want her eating processed foods, and obviously no added sugars until 2. She's only had a handful of freshly made fruits and veggies since starting solids at 6 months, I guess now we can add cinnamon bun to the list.

AIBU to be annoyed when it was an accident? I didn't go mad at him or anything but it's been nagging at me since it happened.

Given the amount of dirt, fluff etc. the average baby ingests, I think you're overreacting. Very badly.

Give OP a break, we all worried about something baby-related! What is PPA?

Post Partum Anxiety.

OP - are you getting support for this? Perinatal services are much more widely available than they used to be, but probs still a bit of a postcode lottery.

Jesus wept. Your poor husband.

I didn't say a single thing to him, just a thought in my overly anxious mind

That's the main thing I was worried about, that it would negatively effect baby in some way. I see now I'm probably overreacting. I'm diagnosed with PPA and it can be very annoying sometimes.

Glad to hear and good that you didn’t go mad at your poor husband, hope crap , the poor bugger . Loosen up . But there is no doubt you will . Precious first born .

It's natural to be worried about doing the best things for you baby.

The important thing is that this was your baby doing the very developmentally normal thing of grabbing food from a parent. It wasn't someone feeding your tiny baby food that babies shouldn't eat.

It sounds like you have a lovely alert baby who is enjoying food. Don't worry too much about the sugar and getting a sweet tooth. Breast milk is really sweet (I know, it's sad but I tried some of mine as I wanted to know what my babies were eating). I'm assuming formula would also taste similarly sweet. So babies have already experienced 6 months of sweet taste so a little bit is sugar by accident will not upset things.

My baby’s first food was a handful of a bacon sarnie, grabbed at light speed and stuffed in her gob before I could blink. (She’s fine.)

One of mine ate a fag butt once. She's 28 now. Pretty sure your baby will be fine 🤣

Hahahahaha, I can only imagine what your reaction was to that 😂😂 Glad she was ok that's hilarious 😂 They really are sneaky little ninjas aren't they

Breathe and unclench

Its fine

And no need to stick to fruit and veg now you're weaning - lots of healthy recipes for weaning friendly pancakes, muffins, pinwheels, porridge fingers etc. Have fun, and don't stress about the odd random thing making it down the hatch

MotherCarmody · 13/03/2025 23:02

I'm in bed craving a cinnamon bun now.

August24Mama · 13/03/2025 23:02

Okay I definitely see now I'm overreacting. I was just worried it was upset her tummy or be bad for her or something. Gonna just laugh about it and forget about it!

In the next few months, I can guarantee that she will also manage to eat small amounts of carpet, fluff, clothing, soil and anything else that she can get her hands on. She will be fine.

Megapint · 13/03/2025 23:01

Be careful it's a gateway bun. Before you know, baby will be sneaking out to go to Gregg's for doughnuts, apple turnovers, Chelsea buns. Who knows where it could lead?

Twonewcats · 13/03/2025 23:01

Honestly, you'll need to reassess what pisses you off. With a child, you're going to have a lot of things you and DH will disagree on, and eating a tiny bit of actual food is the least stressful thing you'll ever disagree on.

Social services then the police.

DelphiniumHolly · 13/03/2025 23:00

It’s just a bit of bun…

Wait until baby is crawling and eating chips off the floor at soft play.

Jellycatspyjamas · 13/03/2025 23:00

What did you think might happen if your child ate a piece of a baked good?

oviraptor21 · 13/03/2025 23:00

Lucky baby 😋

Smartiepants79 · 13/03/2025 22:59

Ummm, you need to unclench.
This is utterly harmless unless she has some kind of unknown allergy to cinnamon.
This will happen many times over the next few months. Please don’t freak out over her every time she grabs for food, she’ll get a complex.
She’ll be eating playdough and glue before you know it.
She’ll be fine.

HipHipWhoRay · 13/03/2025 22:59

I think you should save this OP, and have a read of it on their 10th birthday.

But, don’t worry. No harm done- babies are robust!

mum11970 · 13/03/2025 22:59

Get a grip and unless you had an affair I assume it’s also your dh’s baby not just your baby

Amanitacae · 13/03/2025 22:59

OBVIOUSLY no sugar until 2.

you know sugar compound in a cinnamon bun is identical to the one in an apple/carrot.
