DH accidentally let baby eat some cinnamon bun?

AIBU to be annoyed by this... DH had my 6mo and he was eating a cinnamon bun. He said baby grabbed it (she's very fast with her hands) and brought it to her mouth. He immediately stopped her but not before he said she ate a tiny amount of it. Baby is acting fine and no reactions or anything but I'm still annoyed? I'm strict with what she eats don't want her eating processed foods, and obviously no added sugars until 2. She's only had a handful of freshly made fruits and veggies since starting solids at 6 months, I guess now we can add cinnamon bun to the list.

AIBU to be annoyed when it was an accident? I didn't go mad at him or anything but it's been nagging at me since it happened.

Massive overreaction

I think it's really good that your baby is showing so much interest in food! My DS would eat anything but he never had real junk. Like many toddlers he would eat things off the floor if I didn't get it fast enough and ask family or friends for whatever they had. I've got colleagues with little ones who struggle to eat at all.

I caved into a sticky cinnamon bun yesterday.

@August24Mama your. Dh and baby have good taste

Itsjustgonenoonhalfpastmonsoon · 16/03/2025 12:27

I’m 53 and I don’t think I’ve ever had a cinnamon bun. I like cinnamon, buns not so much. 😂x

I think it’s you who’s making an idiot of themselves!

Did it really take you 2 days to come back with that stunning and inaccurate riposte?

This comment has put me right in the mood for a Greggs apple turnover mmmmm.....

Stop it!! There are now lots of Mumsnetters salivating at the very thought, including me! Please pray for me……..I am literally 5 mins walk away from a Greggs, an M and S and lots more temptation! I am doomed!

That’s because you’re incapable of reading more than one post. If you’d read all the OP’s posts you wouldn’t be making an idiot of yourself right now.

I think it’s you who’s making an idiot of themselves!

My crazy Italian BIL gave his 4 week old baby a taste of chocolate ice cream. The baby looked momentarily shocked, then deeply happy.
He’s now big, healthy and lovely.

Babyboomtastic · 15/03/2025 08:30

Don't let others tell you they didn't panic over one thing or another with their FIRST baby. I was a really relaxed parent but it took a couple of kids to become that way. First baby, not so much. No one is, don't let them tell you otherwise ❤️

I know you are trying to be nice here, but this isn't helpful. The level of anxiety the OP showed over this isn't normal 'first baby worries', suggesting it's normal isn't doing her any favours.

I remember a friend's child was found sucking a dead mouse.......she's still alive 50 years later.....

Oh my god... That stopped me in my tracks lol

OBVIOUSLY no sugar until 2.

you know sugar compound in a cinnamon bun is identical to the one in an apple/carrot.

Well no it obviously isn't.

I am not the one making a huge fuss about very little.

No, but you are the one who can't be bothered to click 'See all' before commenting.

Elsvieta · 14/03/2025 21:20

You'd be U to be upset if it WASN'T an accident. Your DH is her parent just as much as you are, and has as much right as you to decide what he feeds her. When he's doing the childcare, he can make the decisions.

ThinWomansBrain · 14/03/2025 20:40

cinnamon bun?
not cat poo?

LouH1981 · 14/03/2025 20:36

On the day I decided to wean my daughter (6 months) I sat eating an ice cream with her in my lap. She grabbed the cone and took a huge mouthful 🙈 So daughters first solid food was Walls Cornish ice cream and not the lovely broccoli and carrot sticks I had steaming away on the stove 😂
It happens. It’s not like you are going to feed it to her every day ♥️

The majority of replies have been lovely and helpful. Also lots of good advice about weaning in general, took a lot of pressure and stress off my shoulders. Now I realize I don't have to be so strict on everything, obviously I'm not gonna start feeding her straight nutella, but the odd slip up isn't the end of the world.

Thank you to all the lovely people offering real advice, compassion and help. I appreciate it more than you know. You were all very patient and understanding about my stress over what I now know was a non-issue. I'm like a parrot repeating myself haha but thanks to all the nice comments again <3

Now hopefully this thread gets locked because it's blown up way more than I intended😂😂 People getting mad about me being worried about my baby is a bit strange. I'm a FTM and never even held a baby before having my daughter, and I don't have anyone to teach me these things. Throw in PPA on top of that and I admit I can get stressed about what are realistically, non-issues. I'm just trying my best just the same as the rest of you.

Edited

I can't believe this is still going long after you showed amazing self awareness and good natured acceptance of what what being conveyed

You are being unreasonable for just saying 'baby' instead of MY baby!

Just remembered mine chewing on a used match age about 1. God knows where she found it 😂 and thats like actually pretty toxic. Also she used to lick the tv. Shes a strapping healthy 15 yo now.

RedHot2025 · 14/03/2025 18:37

In time baby will eat lots of bacteria, dirt, maybe worms and an odd fly or two. Baby won't die.

Edit.

You have taken on board comments, that's great, enjoy the bun with baby.

Broomknobsandbedsticks · 14/03/2025 18:36

Just as much sugar in the fruit you give.

One of mine ate a fag butt once. She's 28 now. Pretty sure your baby will be fine 🤣

WTAFAmerica · 14/03/2025 17:40

My baby once picked up a spat out cherry pip off the floor in a public place & put it in his mouth.
I was so disturbed! 😳
Reader, he's 15 now and absolutely fine!

Op @August24Mama I think you sound like an absolutely LOVELY mum, and most of us sweated the small stuff when we were on our first babies no matter how much they tell you to 'unclench' now. Try not to come back to this thread too much now because people won't read it all and you'll get lots of similar comments about you being unreasonable. Lots of luck with your baby girl going forward and try to enjoy it as much as you are able - you are doing great, lucky girl to have such a loving and caring mum xx

So true. We've all had our crazy pfb moments.

One of the funniest I've read was the mum who asked when do you stop using cooled boiled water to bath the baby. Not just clean eyes, full on bath the baby was taking her ages to sort a bath.
Everyone was like what??

Yes, I echo this. You sound like a lovely mum OP.
Ignore the nasty snide people on here, their comments say nothing about you and everything about them.
