Would you judge a 26 year old (mum of 2) who casually sleeps with someone who is 18?

Nope. I was 17 and dated guys in their mid 20s . When I was 18 I moved in with a 24 yr old, married at 19 , mother at 20 Divorced 20 years later. My friend, male, aged 20, married a divorcee (with children) aged 30 and they’re still together 30 years on. My 29 yr old grandfather married my 16 yr old grandmother…she chased him for his money, and he adored her all his life. Died in his mid 90s. What people do is up to them once they are adults.

I agree with this. Obviously not if anyone is being exploited or coerced, but I know so many much larger age gap relationships that have been really happy, and I met my own DH when he was 22 (I am 8 years older). Once people are adults then I think it’s more down to the individual temperaments than the gap itself, whether it’s a good thing or not.
My friend’s mum married her Dad when she was 20 and he was 60 !! Happy marriage, two lovely children.

Casually sleeping with ? so not a stable relationship just a friend with benefits ? And she has kids? Eurghh.

What country are you in? We call the final year yr13, used to be Upper Sixth. I don't know what you call it?

she might be in Scotland as its 6th yr up here

WonderingAboutThus · 09/03/2025 23:10

Yes, I would judge. Minimum age for 26 is 20. The kids are kinda irrelevant though.

Cathandkin · 09/03/2025 23:06

Regretsmorethanafew · 09/03/2025 23:05

Not private. No idea what yr13 means.

BatchCookBabe · 09/03/2025 23:06

Yes, I would judge and I'm in the 'I think it's grim' camp.

I know a woman right now, who's 34, who has one DD aged 4. She has had one man after another, 3 to 4 month relationships a couple of times a year for the 6 years I've known her. (No man ever stays with her though, and no man has put a ring on it!) Not sure who the child's father is. I have never seen him, and she never mentions him, she just puts loads of shit on Facebook about how terrible the men are who fuck off and leave the baby mama (and the baby) and never look back.

She's currently got a 'man' living with her who's 19. Fucking 19! He looks 14, and can't even grow facial hair properly. He's a proper cocklodger. He doesn't work, he just sits under the car port smoking weed, and occasionally walks her dog, and mows her lawn ... He's so awkward and doesn't look you in the eye when you speak to him. It's like he is YEARS off being a proper functioning adult. He can't make adult conversation ... No problem shagging though. Her next door neighbour (joined on/semi detached house) says she hears them at it every other night, through the walls, and she can hear her howling like 'Lassie' from Porkys. 34 and 19. Bleurgh!. 😖

I don't know why the hell a 34 year old woman (who's got a 4 year old daughter) has got this man living there ... (She has only known him 5 months and he has lived there for 4!) It's the third man she's had living with her in the last three years, and I actually genuinely worry about the daughter, to be honest with you, with all these random step dads coming in all smoking pot around her/stopping over a lot, and even living with her. And I wonder where the little girl is when they're shagging and she's howling like a banshee!

I think there is really something off about anyone 25+ dating a fucking teenager. Man OR woman. This 34 y.o. woman I know makes my skin crawl. Even her last boyfriend was only 21! (And also a cocklodger.) I don't think she can get a decent man near her own age (with a decent job) to be honest, so she's settling for what she can get.

A school that has uniform for yr13 students? Is it private?

Not private. No idea what yr13 means.

Kittkats · 09/03/2025 23:05

No.DS19 briefly dated a 26yo. He was the more mature.

scrivette · 09/03/2025 23:05

I wouldn't judge at all.

Member869894 · 09/03/2025 23:04

Two consenting adults so I'd be fine with it

Cathandkin · 09/03/2025 23:01

Regretsmorethanafew · 09/03/2025 22:50

Bully for you. My 18 year old boy goes to school everyday in his school uniform.

lifeonmars100 · 09/03/2025 23:01

Not enough context to form an opinion. How did they meet? were either of them aware of the other's age when they got together? They are both adults, and sex is legal from age 16.

Namerequired · 09/03/2025 23:01

I absolutely would! I would also flip if it was my 18yr old

TheGoogleMum · 09/03/2025 22:59

I like the half age +7 is minimum socially acceptable dating age rule. I think it works here, 18 is a little too young

Time40 · 09/03/2025 22:59

No, I wouldn't. They're both adults - and both quite young. It's not a massive age gap.

SheridansPortSalut · 09/03/2025 22:58

My sons were still in school at 18.

If they came home with a 26 yo mum of two I'd have had a lot to say about it.

SheridansPortSalut · 09/03/2025 22:57

Yes.

I dated someone ten years older than me when I was seventeen. I don't understand why people judge so much.
They are both adults and can do what they want. It sounds like it's just a bit of fun for both of them so what's the problem?

I agree!
I dated a guy who was 28 when I was 18 and thought nothing of it...didn't even cross my mind that people would view it as 'eww' or 'inappropriate'.
My mother wasn't keen on the age gap, but then my mother made it her life's mission to hate absolutely everyone I ever dated no matter what their age! (including my now DH!)
We went out for about 18 months and the age gap wasn't the reason we eventually drifted apart.

soupyspoon · 09/03/2025 22:53

Purplebeach · 09/03/2025 22:48

Like pp have said it’s not the 8 year gap but the fact one is a teenager that makes it inappropriate.

Is the age of consent now for those over 20?

A Teenager is just someone who has an age with the number ending in 'teen'. What does that mean in actual fact?

Is someone who is 20 suddenly very very different to someone who is 19?

He's an adult, 2 years over the age of consent, as long as she hasnt been his teacher or lecturer or something then its for them to decide.

BrillantBriony · 09/03/2025 22:53

er yes…

Becs258 · 09/03/2025 22:53

No. I was ‘that woman’. Had been friends with the 18 year old through a shared hobby. Feelings brewed over a number of months. 25 years later we’re still very happily married.

CountingDownToSummer · 09/03/2025 22:51

On the brief info you have given yes I think I would

Regretsmorethanafew · 09/03/2025 22:50

ItGhoul · 09/03/2025 22:45

No. They’re two adults having sex. Nothing to judge.

Odd that some people are saying ‘How they would even be moving in the same circles’ and ‘An 18-year-old is basically a child’. How do you square that with the fact that lots of 18-year-olds are working full time as equals alongside other adults of all ages, then? When I was 18-19 I was working alongside (and managing!) people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. We all interacted and socialised as adults because that’s what we were.

Bully for you. My 18 year old boy goes to school everyday in his school uniform.

Firefly1987 · 09/03/2025 22:50

I think it's ironic because if a poster was having trouble with their 18 year old son most posters would say he's an adult kick him out and let him fend for himself yet at the same time expect to have a say in what their 18 year old (or any 18 year old for that matter) does in their sex life? I wouldn't have been interested in an 18 year old at 26 but my dad was 27 dating my mum at the same age and they were married over 40 years. I know things are different now but people really pick and choose when an 18 year old is an adult and when they're not...

SoInLuv · 09/03/2025 22:50

Hankunamatata · 09/03/2025 21:57

Depends on the people. Some 18 yr old could be very venerable

It's "hakuna matata" (not hankuna) 😊
