Would really appreciate people’s opinions on this, thank you

I dated an 18 year old for a bit when I was 25, so not inherently (and yes it ended because of the age gap).

I think an actual relationship with an older woman with two kids would be problematic for an 18 year old. Casual sex not such a big deal.

I couldn't imagine finding any man younger than me attractive at any age.

I wouldn't have looked at an 18 year old even when I was 19.

Nor me, it sickens me because of my childhood

soupyspoon · 09/03/2025 21:54

I would imagine the 18 year old hasnt got a lot in common with a woman who is a parent of 2, but I wouldnt judge negatively, I dont think its 'inappropriate' (MN favourite phrase), I dont think its 'ew' (or whatever childish sound others might make)

I would imagine its about sex for the both of them and they're both consenting adults unless theres a back story where one or both of them has LD or something

Idontjetwashthefucker · 09/03/2025 21:54

I'd raise an eyebrow, but we need more info, is he/she vulnerable, how did they meet, has he been introduced to the kids?

Yes

Supersimkin7 · 09/03/2025 21:53

No. Why?

orangewasp · 09/03/2025 21:52

No, both are adults.

Auldy · 09/03/2025 21:52

Id just wonder why she set her sights so low. 18 year old boys don't even have their full brains yet!

They’ve been together for 34 years and not only are you still judging them but you’ve encouraged your children to do the same? It’s about time you got over it, don’t you think?

After the childhood I had I have every right to judge. Did you miss the part where he was awful to me? My children were definitely not encouraged to view them in any way. They formed their own opinions as they got older (22, 18, 15 and 13).

WaffleParty · 09/03/2025 21:52

Absolutely I would. Not an appropriate relationship.

graceinspace999 · 09/03/2025 21:51

No, they’re both adults.

StrawberryWater · 09/03/2025 21:50

Not sure what having 2 kids has got to do with anything but I would judge anyone (man or woman) who is 26 and sleeping with an 18 year old. Fucking grim.

biscuitsandbooks · 09/03/2025 21:49

No.

If a poster came on and said her ex in his late 30s was snagging their daughters 17yo friend, would you be so supportive of him?

Jalapenosplease · 09/03/2025 21:48

I certainly wouldn't judge the fact she was 26 with 2 kids. That's a perfectly normal age to have had 2 children by. (Except for Mumsnet where everyone is 42+)

I wouldn't think sleeping with an 18yr old was very...wise. no.

But actually it's not perverse. It's legal. He's not 16. He's an adult. Hardly a child (once again most of Mumsnet thinks their children are babies until they're 28)

I get vibes that you think she's a chav basically. We're allowed to slate those types on Mumsnet!

I'd keep your nose out to be honest unless there's a massive back story.

Hazel665 · 09/03/2025 21:47

I actually think it depends on the people. She could be a vulnerable 26 year old, while he might be a manipulative 18 year old who sees an easy way to get laid. We don't know. Hard to judge this one.

Disgusting. My own mother moved her 17yr old boyfriend in when she was 35. It has always sickened and embarrassed me. I was six, my sister 11 and my brother (his friend) was also 17. It ruined my brother's relationship with my mother and he was horrible to me. They are still together now and I'm 40. My own children find it wrong and they don't have a relationship with my mother because of it.

No. Both adults

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 09/03/2025 21:39

18 and 26 is imo toobig an age gap because of the 18 year old not because 8 years is itself too big.

There's 9 years between me and my husband.

24 and 33 when we married.

51 and 60 now.
Tiny gap and meaningless.

But if we'd got together when I was 18 and he was 27? Creepy.

17 and 26?
16 and 25?

The age gap is the same but there's a point at which it becomes inappropriate and imo that point is when the younger one is a teenager.

pizzaHeart · 09/03/2025 21:39

Yes.
There is a huge gap between them due to difference in age and their life stages.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 09/03/2025 21:38

Yeah girl, it's messy x

Cathandkin · 09/03/2025 21:38

No. They're consenting adults.

Wakeywake · 09/03/2025 21:38

Yes
