Would you judge a 26 year old (mum of 2) who casually sleeps with someone who is 18?

Would really appreciate people’s opinions on this, thank you

Typical hypocrisy in these replies.

DoYouReally · 09/03/2025 22:49

Yes I would.

Life stages are too far apart to be an equal situation.

I briefly date a 27 year old when I was 18. I did so but choice snd saw nothing bring with it. Looking back there was a hell of alot wrong.

Purplebeach · 09/03/2025 22:48

Like pp have said it’s not the 8 year gap but the fact one is a teenager that makes it inappropriate.

They’ve been together for 34 years and not only are you still judging them but you’ve encouraged your children to do the same? It’s about time you got over it, don’t you think?

Why should she? Her mother was sleeping with a child, hers sons age and friend, and moved him in with her children. Why the fuck should anyone get over it? It doesn't get any less revolting because they're older now and still together.

Id just wonder why she set her sights so low. 18 year old boys don't even have their full brains yet!

It's not his brain she's interested in.

ItGhoul · 09/03/2025 22:45

No. They’re two adults having sex. Nothing to judge.

Odd that some people are saying ‘How they would even be moving in the same circles’ and ‘An 18-year-old is basically a child’. How do you square that with the fact that lots of 18-year-olds are working full time as equals alongside other adults of all ages, then? When I was 18-19 I was working alongside (and managing!) people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. We all interacted and socialised as adults because that’s what we were.

GrantMitchell · 09/03/2025 22:44

When I was in my late 20s, a friend’s flatmate kept hitting on me. He was funny, interesting and handsome. He was only 18 though and I couldn’t get past that so I didn’t get involved with him.

SprinkleOfSunak · 09/03/2025 22:43

Good luck to them, let them enjoy themselves.

WysiWyg40 · 09/03/2025 22:41

When I was 17 I was dating another 17 year old and we worked in the same place .
I had also befriended a 36 year old single mum who also worked at the same place .
I found out he was seeing me of an evening ( we were not sleeping together ) but then going around the other co workers house and they were sleeping together .
All a bit grim . I left them to it .

Temporaryanonymity · 09/03/2025 22:41

My son is 18. I would be very alarmed if he was sleeping with a 26 year old. He’s still at school!

DearDenimEagle · 09/03/2025 22:40

Nope. I was 17 and dated guys in their mid 20s . When I was 18 I moved in with a 24 yr old, married at 19 , mother at 20 Divorced 20 years later. My friend, male, aged 20, married a divorcee (with children) aged 30 and they’re still together 30 years on. My 29 yr old grandfather married my 16 yr old grandmother…she chased him for his money, and he adored her all his life. Died in his mid 90s. What people do is up to them once they are adults.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 09/03/2025 22:38

Half your age +7.

So no one under 20 for a 26yo

notacooldad · 09/03/2025 22:37

I'm too busy dealing with my own shit without being concerned with what consenting adults do.

Nellsbell · 09/03/2025 22:36

It’s not the years that’s the problem it’s the fact that he is still a teenager. I would think he is enjoying some kind of milf status amongst friends.

zaxxon · 09/03/2025 22:34

It's not great, but I think 19 and 27 are OK ... and 20 and 28 would be totally fine

LoveFridaynight · 09/03/2025 22:33

I dated someone ten years older than me when I was seventeen. I don't understand why people judge so much.
They are both adults and can do what they want. It sounds like it's just a bit of fun for both of them so what's the problem?

ToWhitToWhoo · 09/03/2025 22:32

It depends. If the 18-year-old is still at school, yes, I would. If he is already working, probably not. If he's at university, a bit but not as much as with a schoolboy,

But to be honest, I wouldn't think it that great for the mum of two presumably very young children to be having casual sex with anyone. I hope that at least she's not bringing him home or introducing him to the kids.

Ahostofgoldendaffodils · 09/03/2025 22:30

I was 18 when I met my now DH, who was 26. Been together 30 years now, married 20 of them have 3 DC. Never really noticed the age gap, no one ever passed comment - to our faces anyway

Hollyhedge · 09/03/2025 22:25

ScentOfAMoomin · 09/03/2025 22:23

It’s not only a big age gap but a very big life experience gap

Casual sex unlikely to be down to common life experiences

Hollyhedge · 09/03/2025 22:24

soupyspoon · 09/03/2025 21:54

I would imagine the 18 year old hasnt got a lot in common with a woman who is a parent of 2, but I wouldnt judge negatively, I dont think its 'inappropriate' (MN favourite phrase), I dont think its 'ew' (or whatever childish sound others might make)

I would imagine its about sex for the both of them and they're both consenting adults unless theres a back story where one or both of them has LD or something

Exactly. They are just having sex. Why is it such a big deal.

AngeloMysterioso · 09/03/2025 22:24

I was dating a 27ish year old when I was 18 and nobody batted an eyelid including my own mother... it's hard to think of a reason why it wouldn't be ok the other way around for reasons that aren't even a little bit sexist.

ScentOfAMoomin · 09/03/2025 22:23

It’s not only a big age gap but a very big life experience gap

sometimesmovingforwards · 09/03/2025 22:23

Yes of course 🤣🤣🤣

Motheranddaughter · 09/03/2025 22:23

No
Both are adults
I don’t judge this sort of thing

Hollyhedge · 09/03/2025 22:22

No, I’d think fair play
