Neighbour mocking me?

kularni · 09/03/2025 17:44

I live in a semi detached and can hear my neighbour repeating what I say in a mocking tone.

This afternoon my husband was upstairs and shouted down to me, I said “what are you talking about” and then heard my neighbour say “what are you talking about” or when I laugh I can hear them repeat it in the same tone.

It’s getting boring now. Aibu?

Next time it happens, knock on their door and ask them what their fucking problem is?

(Be prepared for them to tell you that you're loud and it's annoying for them)

Shout out "have you seen that woman come round to see Geoffrey every monday 10 mins after Linda leaves for work?"

Please please do this..or something else about them

78Summer · 09/03/2025 18:52

They’re telling you to pipe down or move to a detached house.

It’s a passive aggressive way of pointing out they can hear you…maybe you are being too loud?

This. I childishly do this but at barely audible level with our neighbours adult daughter because she plays Call of Duty in very loud and shouty kevin-tone at the other side of our bedroom wall from 8/9pm to often 2/3am. Drives me mad so I end up almost involuntarily mocking her back. I think your neighbour is telling doing the same.

BatchCookBabe · 09/03/2025 18:48

Are you not going to acknowledge that you are too loud @kularni ? 😆

wizzywig · 09/03/2025 18:44

TheDandyLion · 09/03/2025 18:38

Stop shouting up and down the stairs.

Princesspollyyy · 09/03/2025 18:38

They could shout 'SHUT THE F* UP!' But have decided to mimic you instead, hoping you get the message.

Diningtableornot · 09/03/2025 18:36

The message is that you are too noisy. There are nastier ways of delivering this information, and few would be as convincing! Best take note and pipe down.

Ritzybitzy · 09/03/2025 18:34

He’s trying to get you to recognise you’re too loud!

I would say they are venting about noise levels rather than mocking you.

What classes as low quality attached housing?

My house was built in 1890.

Any housing built with materials so thin you can hear your neighbours, is of low quality. Because you can hear your neighbours.

I’m not sure if the date of build is relevant.

Miaowzabella · 09/03/2025 18:29

You are unreasonable to be bellowing at each other up and down the stairs when you live in a semi.

Princesspollyyy · 09/03/2025 18:28

I think the OP is realising she must be incredibly loud in the house and that's why the neighbour is mocking her. Not sure she is going to reply to any of us asking her if she's being too loud

Love how this is the only post you respond to... Are you loud in the house?

CucumberBagel · 09/03/2025 18:20

Or they could have echolalia?

YANBU OP

This would absolutely get to me

Sure, it would get to me too, but think how annoyed the neighbours must be? They just be fed up of OP bellowing

JMSA · 09/03/2025 18:19

It couldn't just be the neighbour being an arsehole, no?

And even if the OP were too loud, he could always just have a word with her rather than blatantly take the piss.

Might change my name to LowQualityAttachedHousing...

FOJN · 09/03/2025 18:13

If you can't hear their conversation we'll enough to parrot every word they say then you are definitely being too loud and they are being passive aggressive about letting you know.

skippy67 · 09/03/2025 18:11

They're telling you to pipe down...

In that case probably not shoddily built with no sound proofing. So you must be VERY loud 😖

Schoolchoicesucks · 09/03/2025 18:09

Can you hear them when they talk normally to one another as well? Or just when they are "mocking" you?

If the former, you have very thin walls and might want to think about insulating and being mindful of being loud. If the latter then just stop shouting at one another.

Princesspollyyy · 09/03/2025 18:09

It's definitely their way of telling you that you are too noisy. Why shout up and down the stairs to each other? That just be so annoying if your neighbours can hear you.

Can you hear your neighbours speaking to each other?

Sounds like you are much too loud.
