Our children should not be able to get advice on DIY Transgender HRT from Reddit. Like this 13 year old.

This is just an example. How is this legal?

Any thoughts on 13 year olds receiving DIY HRT advice @Glitterknickerbockers?

What part of my post was funny given your laughing reaction? Is that all the TRA’s can muster these days in the absence of coherent and logical argument? (Ha ha).

Obviously it's stupid. Shitty parents letting their children do stupid things and be exposed to harmful people is a tale as old as the internet itself. When I was a teenager it was Pro Ana and self harming chat rooms. It's got nothing to do with transgender people, it's got everything to do with SHIT PARENTS. It's impossible to ban every bad thing on the internet. Thats why people need to parent their children.

Your post is funny because you did exactly what I was saying the usual posters usually do. You (one of the usuals) turned up, posted all the same points as usual, accused me of not caring about womens rights which is incorrect, and called me a TRA which is also incorrect (having the same conversation for the 100th time) it's like FWR bingo and you got a full house.

Honestly it's hilarious that someone said this is what usually happens, then someone comes along, does exactly what was predicted and doesn't understand why it's funny so decides.its obviously TRA mocking. You couldn't make it up!

Everydayimhuffling · 08/03/2025 10:29

Children shouldn't have access to Reddit. I would think that was perfectly obvious. You're saying "surely it shouldn't be legal" while ignoring the age restrictions on social media. What else do you want?

JeanPaulGagtier · 08/03/2025 09:58

It is interesting how the world of work often seems very similar to Reddit. I have noticed a creep to it on here though - you can post a factual link and (I suspect bots) glaze over it and continue berating women for something. Posting links on here is a good litmus test for who is an actual person I think. Maybe I'm just not techy enough and AI can now read links and respond?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/03/2025 09:28

You literally can't tell people facts on there because there are so many fragile egos.

I agree. And people are really nasty, sneery and rude in the same way that people froth about on Mumsnet, to deflect from the fact that they don't have any decent arguments. If you are going against the prevailing view, like people often whinge about on MN, you will get downvoted or just summarily banned from a subreddit, sometimes even because they look at your history and don't like your posts in a different one.

Bullies love Reddit and it's perfect for them. Personally, I like being able to make my argument, and I'm not so thin skinned that I can't take people disagreeing with me and showing up any holes in that argument.

JeanPaulGagtier · 08/03/2025 09:10

I tried Reddit for a few months but came off because of the atmosphere. It feels like wading through treacle on most topics and there's an angry aggressive undercurrent. My DC aren't allowed to have it as the advice is often hyper masculine - one trying to tell me steroids didn't make men aggressive and that I clearly didn't study science (longer nastier rant that actually proved my point). You literally can't tell people facts on there because there are so many fragile egos.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/03/2025 09:04

The accusations of being ganged up on, talked over jumped on fade into insignificance in comparison with being downvoted. Here all points of view, respectfully expressed, stand.

Exactly. People who bang on about how wonderful Reddit is compared to Mumsnet always seem to miss that key element.

That description, @ThePeppyMoose , particularly emphasises the ridiculousness of calling MN an echo chamber.

The internet is not a baby sitter, child minder or parent.

It is up to parents to raise their children and manage what they access, not the internet, not other adults.

But the vast majority of parents don’t know or understand.

I don't think so. Any of these threads by page 2 are never about the original post anymore and just devolve into people shouting ADULT HUMAN FEMALE.

The Reddit post being deleted wouldn't stop the usuals turning up and having a 10 page rant about transgender children and puberty blockers, unless they have finally got bored of having the same conversation over and over again. I'm surprised it took this long for them to get bored tbh.

’The usuals’ 😂. Yeah it’s wild how many people, parents, don’t agree with telling non gender conforming children, a lot displaying autistic traits that they are the opposite sex (which they aren’t and never will be). How dare they not put them onto irreversible medical pathways with potential disastrous consequences.

Its quiet because the majority of people have returned to sanity island, are over being told to ‘be kind’ and understand the absurdity rabid gender ideology can bring and the dire consequences of letting boundary trampling men say they’re women. It’s the few who continue to pop up wailing ‘transphobia, echo chamber!’ without any back up, explanation, example. Wash rinse repeat.

Thank fuck for the ones who can back up what they say. Or ‘having the same conversation’ as you put it.

sore of surprised you are.

Trump said on his first day that gender type surgeries were banned in hospitals receiving federal funding. The next day, the NYT reported that two U12’s had had their mastectomies cancelled. UNDER 12’s. And there were more going up the ages.

That's insane!!!! So glad he's back in power

More likely because the Reddit thread got deleted

no one under 18 should be on reddit

And yet…..

there are teenagers on that sub Reddit asking about hysterectomies and DIY hormone therapy. Under 16 let alone 18.

I have two elections coming up - one tomorrow. I have had to decide that I am a single issue voter these days.

Go Sall Grover and all power to her pen.

This is the only issue on which I agree with Trump.

The Democrat party needs to understand how horrified many (most?) people are that children have been having healthy body parts removed.

Jabtastic · 07/03/2025 12:06

I agree with you on the group think thing on Reddit. I find some subs very valuable but I hate the endless virtue signalling on it. Ironically disability subs are some of the worst!

Excellent summary of what is wrong with Reddit @ThePeppyMoose . I'm going to forward this to my DH who will not listen to me when I say how bad it is and why it is bad.

I think the big question is should we require age verification for all social media platforms as has been proposed in Australia
