To hate LinkedIn wankery!

Gah, the sector I work in (Property) is so annoying with all the social media posts and LinkedIn wankery. I have to keep a hand in because of my job, but it mostly makes me want to vomit.

So many people now on Facebook are spilling their LinkedIn shite to their FB feeds too which also makes me want to vomit.

I know social media is a very powerful tool in business but Mary's old school mates/aunties/uncles etc don't give a shiney shite about a property they have at work to let for £5k a month. or what exciting training course they went on yesterday.

Gah!!

Light hearted obviously. GrinGrin

I've noticed recently the vocabulary used by LinkedIn posters is narrowing. Every new job announcement talks about a 'journey' and its 'next chapter'. There is far, far too much joy. Experiences in personal life are used to kick-start relections on professional life, with small children the most common reference point. Ironically, there are lots of posts in which the poster pats themselves on the back for jettisoning some aspect of corporate bullshit.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/03/2025 12:23

@Arrivals4lucky it kind of smacks of the corporate bullshit shit we all laugh at on the MLM thread on here. I honestly am glad we don't work in corporate these days if this is what's expected

Karen4President · 07/03/2025 12:00

LinkedIn wankery 🤣 That is so funny and true!

I hate it but also have to use it for work/my industry. But it’s so cringey seeing people posting personal stuff on it.

Keep it business focused only and it would be so much better. It’s just cringey Facebook in my view.

I never thought I’d say that Facebook is better (as you expect this time of shite there)

xILikeJamx · 07/03/2025 11:57

Don't have Linkedin myself but I follow an account on Twitter called The State of Linkedin and it regularly affirms my refusal to register - just everything terrible about 'corporate' culture distilled in one place.

Jake Humphreys is featured on a regular basis - used to really like him but his Linkedin posts make me nauseous

bifurCAT · 07/03/2025 11:53

For me, it's the brown-nosing, particularly in sales.

A company posts something and then all the potential businesses then swarm around it, liking the post, commenting about how great it is, etc.

I mean, if you spent half as much time showing your skills and doing the work as you did on LinkedIn, you'd actually be making sales.

There’s a brilliant comedy act called Wankernomics that have some hilarious takes on corporate bull on LinkedIn. They’re on Instagram. Worth a look.

I saw their show at the Edinburgh Fringe last year, so funny and spot on about the corporate crap spewed by lots of companies.

Arrivals4lucky · 07/03/2025 11:43

I’m also job hunting so have to put up with it but I can’t wait for the day when I just delete my account FOREVER!

ItisIbeserk · 07/03/2025 11:43

Wankernomics skewers my entire career in one sketch. I love it. But inside I cry.

Arrivals4lucky · 07/03/2025 11:41

At the moment LinkedIn is FULL of people criticising the USA and FULL of angry American’s complaining that it’s not the place for politics, and that politics and business are separate ( ha!) and shouldn’t be mixed… whatevs you MAGA wankers

NancyBellaDonna · 07/03/2025 11:41

Totally agree OP.

LinkedIn: wholly owned by Zuckerberg.
Nuff said.

Arrivals4lucky · 07/03/2025 11:39

One of my colleagues has posted her weight loss ‘journey’ on there cross referencing it with how she always loved her clients and is there 24/7 ( DM me if YOU want to know about AI innovation!) for them but how she realised she wasn’t loving herself enough.
So now you can teach her between 7am and 8pm only cos she’s off loving herself in the gym or meal prepping or some such bullshit.
Shes literally gone from a size 12 to 8/10 #love yourself #its never too late #AIfor good #askmeaboutsales

Magnastorm · 07/03/2025 11:36

Linkedin is fucking awful. Once it was fairly useful for recruitment, but now it is entirely populated by self-promoting wankers and their "10 reasons why your employees hate you" posts.

Just fucking burn it to the ground.

Arrivals4lucky · 07/03/2025 11:33

‘The State of LinkedIn’ is another good one that calls out the absolute bullshit of LinkedIn!
I have to use it for work, and my new director is haranguing me for not posting more…

he’s all ‘ on the way to give a Keynote on leadership to NATO I passed a beggar on the street, and gave him my last dollar. Tears in his eyes as he thanked me he said to me’ Leaders grasp nettles’.Wow, I thought to myself, wow! Even this man, this homeless,
bedraggled man understands the need for leadership in these uncertain times! I gave him my card and went on my merry way. A week later, he called into our offices! I hired him in the spot. Now that beggar is my Chief of Staff. The lesson? Be kind, never give up, leadership is everything. # NATO #beggars # life lessons’

i’m exaggerating - but only slightly….

TeaHagTeaBag · 07/03/2025 11:14

There's a great subreddit called LinkedIn Lunatics. Some truly unhinged people.

freerangefool · 06/03/2025 23:24

Agree.

SirDanielBrackley · 06/03/2025 23:21

Dumping my linkedin account was one of the best things about retiring.

TeenLifeMum · 06/03/2025 23:18

I have been enjoying linked in recently - some great training tools and blogs relevant to me and my team. Also a positive and supportive community that you don’t see on other platforms. Maybe it depends who you follow. I did do a bit of a wankery post about my post grad distinction but that was political with a small p as nasty toxic work bully told me it would be above me and too hard so seeing my exec team liking my post and knowing she saw it was nice. That was my first post in 3 years as I’m usually a reader.

newkettleandtoaster · 06/03/2025 23:13

Thrilled to announce.

I agree. It's dreadful. I'm on there because I feel I should be for work but I'd never be able to post anything without cringing myself inside out.

Franjipanl8r · 06/03/2025 23:09

I work in construction in a technical role, most of the people who post in my sector don’t know what they’re talking about. The content is purely about who shouts the loudest rather than who knows their stuff.

Masmavi · 06/03/2025 23:08

God, I thought it was just me. İt's all so fake and cringe.

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 06/03/2025 22:53

I am thrilled to announce that tomorrow, I'll be taking on the same job that I've had for the past 5 years to do the same old shite day in day out until I retire or die of boredom, whichever comes first.

Yes, the Wankernomics guys are bloody marvelous!

ThatsNotMyTeen · 06/03/2025 22:41

Oh I can’t stand it. It’s absolutely odious

tuesdayschildish · 06/03/2025 22:41

I enjoy LinkedIn wankery. It’s refreshingly honest wankery. It’s a work network and we’re all busy flogging something on there. I’m currently selling myself/soul as I need to line up a new job next year. LinkedIn is boring and suity and we all know exactly what we’re there for.

Facebook on the other hand is an algorithmically
created nightmare

LovingHare · 06/03/2025 22:31

its like upper management have to show case themselves to each other, ill admit is intriguing but the people they would prefer to be interested in their posts are not using linked in, and the ones that do are already around their level and knowledge etc

GoldfinchFeather · 06/03/2025 22:27

It's so cringeworthy - but as is most social media, tbh. So many people seem to have an inflated sense of their own self importance, whether it's sharing countless selfies or inane details about what they're doing at work this week. And all of it of very little importance.

My mantra to social media these days is it's better to say nothing and be be thought of as boring than constantly posting and making yourself look a prat.
