Are you a nosy neighbour?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 04/03/2025 19:54

I'm not the interfering kind a la Norris from Corrie

I've got a ring doorbell and I do have a look at what people are doing 🙈

I'll even remark to myself, 'she's going out again, omg' or see what they've brought back from the shops

I love to look out of the window for no reason as well

No point to this thread really 😭😭, just inspired by my neighbour getting another deliveroo takeaway and me passing judgement and secretly wishing I was getting a takeaway 🙈🤭

Yessss! I am a nosy neighbour. Not in a malicious way but I like to know what’s going on in the street! I’m lucky as my neighbour across the road is the same so we are able to keep each other in the loop. I also wfh and have befriended the postman - best thing ever for getting the neighbourhood gossip, he knows it ALL.

wordywitch · 04/03/2025 22:22

Ah, so these are the people who post in local Facebook groups. Good to know 😂

TY78910 · 04/03/2025 22:22

My next door neighbour and I send each other screenshots of all the tat people on our road are trying to get rid off on the Facebook group and
links of all the houses that go up on sale on the estate so we can talk about the decor. We love a goss

Am I a nosey neighbour?
Hell yes.
I'm retired. Hovering round the window gives me purpose.
My retired husband is even interested in my reports of the day.
Living opposite a post box is a total bonus.

Omg you're in the prime spot - the equivalent of sitting near the water-cooler

I'm not even retired 😭, just going out of my way to be nosy

SpottedDonkey · 04/03/2025 22:00

No. I’m the opposite of a nosey neighbour. A family moved in next door this time last year and I still don’t know their name or what they do for a living. And, as long as they continue to leave me alone, I’m not interested.

I live in a village but I’m ‘not from round here’. I’m obviously aware that the locals gossip about everyone & everything so I make sure I don’t engage in any way & give them absolutely nothing to talk about. Which must annoy them intensely. Grin

Dappy777 · 04/03/2025 20:36

Not really. I can’t bear nosiness. It’s such an ugly trait. In general, it means taking pleasure in other people’s misfortune.

Not always though, don't you have a neighbour our who always knows when bin day is? Don't you have a nose to see when they're bringing them out?

Or if a neighbour has a new guest

Sometimes it's curiosity

Is what i tell myself 🤭🤭

Yes, totally! WFH and a ring doorbell have been the best things for me ever.

I judge my skanky neighbours who get loads of takeaways and never bring their bins in. They have arms, legs and work and just walk right past them.
Who has flytipped and I can report to the council again.
What the drug dealers are up to and should I call 101 again.
Why have the grotty new family got dog number 3 in a year when they are shite at looking after them.
The blokes who looked dodgy were indeed breaking into a house 3 doors down so some poor 999 call handler had me squeeking down the phone at them.
The 20 something daughters in one house have both got horrible boyfriends and could do so much better.
The council had better not be spraying weed killer around my house as I told them not to.

It is basically Rear Window in this house, if Grace Kelly wore Primark trackpants.

I mean, this is the gossip I love to hear

Whats wrong with these boyfriends, what makes them horrible? 👀👀

We like to keep track of how many days his badly hung washing has been out (only onto day 2 for current load)

My neighbour at the back once had their bedding hanging out for 12 days 😬 Yes I counted. I guess I must be a nosey neighbour.

12 days!?

Tbf mines had hers out a couple of days now, and it's 0 degrees at night

We can see one neighbours house directly from the front of ours, single man who orders huge amounts of takeaway food. It would be very weird for a day to pass without a delivery. His current record is 3 in a day - Maccys x 2 and pizza. We like to keep track of how many days his badly hung washing has been out (only onto day 2 for current load)

Omggg you're a person after my own heart

I was gonna say, he sounds single - no women/men visiting during the night? What does he do 👀👀

2 maccys and a pizza damn, he didn't enter his kitchen once 😭

No but we don’t really sit in the front of our house unless we have a fire on in there during the colder months in which case it would mostly be in the evenings and the shutters would be closed.
We do have neighbours though that we are friendly with and will happily fill us in with all the street gossip - I swear if you farted within 20ft of their front door they’d be checking and rechecking their camera footage.
I like them but presume they don’t have much of a life beyond twitching their curtains. They don’t really go out much and one is retired, the other wfh.
I find it a bit much that they know who’s on holiday based on what cars are in their drives and how often they’ve moved, asking me if I like the new car on x’s drive (would never have noticed!) and more importantly who’s glass recycling bins are overflowing (yes sometimes ours 😂 but we do have a lot of people round!!).

😭😭 there's not one thing happening on my ring doorbell that I don't know about 🙈

I'm not nosy in an intrusive kind of way, but I live in a rural village with a population of 900 so gossip travels superfast around here.

The chairman of our parish council likes to tell some whopping fibs to the biggest gossips to see how fast it gets around, which can be funny. DH mentioned something in passing to someone yesterday, within a couple of hours our opposite neighbour had texted me about it! 🤣

It doesn't bother me at all - I grew up with a very victorian stepfather who was excessively and obsessively private, so being spoken to by a neighbour was very stressful as I didn't know what I was allowed to say. Indulging in gossip in my 50's feels very liberating, and anyway, everyone in the village knowing who you are, what you drive and where you've been on holiday actually makes me feel safe.

I do wonder if our neighbours notice that we go out for food a lot and have grown visibly larger since we moved here 4 years ago haha.

That sounds like a lovely place to live tbh 😄

City life is for me but i love gossip 🤭

No don't feel bad. I needed to know about this. I'm such a luddite with tech stuff. 😂even my mum and dad have got a ring doorbell.

😄😄 they're definitely useful, even just for security

Not at all , my husband is the nosey one but I tend to have the blinds closed at the front when I’m WFH as otherwise the dog barks at every car / person / blade of grass that moves

Thanks very much for giving me something else to be paranoid about. 😂We've not got a ring doorbell and I naively thought they only recorded when someone rings the bell! Now I'm wondering if neighbours are spying on me! We don't get takeaways much but I'm guessing we are likely being Amazon/Evri delivery shamed by our neighbours. 🙈

We recently moved to a quiet lane and have renovated what had been a derelict house. DH is very techy and installed cameras outside, along with a ring type doorbell.

I love being able to check on my laptop if I hear someone/something outside. I certainly don't sit watching it all day, I work full time for a start, but its been SO handy.

We had teens vandalise us early on, so I feel reassured that I can check the cameras if needed. Being able to check back has been very handy on a number of occasions, but I'm not sitting in the front room staring out the window all day.

MarchingintoSpring · 04/03/2025 20:25

I hate those doorbells. I think you need to find a life of your own 😂
