Are you a nosy neighbour?

I'm not the interfering kind a la Norris from Corrie

I've got a ring doorbell and I do have a look at what people are doing 🙈

I'll even remark to myself, 'she's going out again, omg' or see what they've brought back from the shops

I love to look out of the window for no reason as well

No point to this thread really 😭😭, just inspired by my neighbour getting another deliveroo takeaway and me passing judgement and secretly wishing I was getting a takeaway 🙈🤭

Not intentionally nosy but i do stand in my front windows a lot making plans i probably won't keep for what to do with the garden, then getting grumpy about the garden (front garden, lots of gravel, pisses me off as it gets everywhere!) can see how it could look like i'm being nosy.
I have a camera in my kitchen window but it's only 'armed' (Blink's words, not mine) when i go to the office/holiday/days out

HelpMeGetThrough · 05/03/2025 11:54

Never know what's going on around here. My record for not seeing the next door neighbours is about 3 months.

Lurkingandlearning · 05/03/2025 11:13

@sammylady37 Wow, she’s a prize winning nosy neighbour. I don’t think I could handle someone monitoring me like that. You’re a very nice person. I’m glad you send her on the occasional goose chase though

Omg my postie is very stoic and uninterested in gossiping with me 😭

He was probably sick of all the socially starved people that tried to talk to him during the pandemic, which was when I moved in 🤭 bless him

I like to know what's going on, very harmless

That’s so sad, the pandemic is exactly when I befriended the postie! He’s a chatterbox like me though. I also walk my dog in the neighbourhood which is really social for meeting other neighbours and chatting which tends to lead to knowing more about people.

I did miss a screaming match between neighbours last year though. It was right outside my house too apparently and one neighbour involved couldn’t believe I hadn’t witnessed the entire spectacle. The argument was over the kids playing football!!! Total ridiculousness but was exciting to hear about 🤣

GenerousGardener · 05/03/2025 08:51

I'm not that nosy but when my grandson says
'Nanny why are the police going into next door?'
I'm up at the window! 😂😂😂

LennysRucksack · 05/03/2025 08:26

Hmm reading through the thread I've realised that my response focused rather on the fact that I'm SURROUNDED by nosy neighbours, not that I am one!

But still, it doesn't bother me in the least. I'd be affronted if any of the gossiping was cruel or malicious, but them all talking to each other about DHs latest garden project, or that we have so many different visitors and cars on the drive that we must be running an air B&B, is harmless.

I walk my dogs daily so I do "notice" things - John has changed his van, Penny was late this morning, that twat with the jack russell appears to live up North Road, Clive went to get bacon again etc - but all pretty benign.

MinnieMountain · 05/03/2025 06:54

We live on a road that’s popular with people waking their dogs. As we have a dropped kerb, I will keep an eye out if I see someone stopping with their dog. Otherwise no.

wordywitch · 04/03/2025 22:22

Ah, so these are the people who post in local Facebook groups. Good to know 😂

Ooo, no. I keep my head down. Too many dodgy people around here. I don't want to raise my head above the parapet.

farmlife2 · 05/03/2025 06:31

I'm not a nosy neighbour but I am observant and notice a lot of what goes on around me. Even with a detached house with some land. I don't have a ring door bell.

My house does overlook one neighbour and I don't think they know how much I can see, so I inadvertently pick up a lot about them. I knew there was a domestic across the way and did look out the window then, only because there was something going on in front of the house and I was watching to make sure the young woman was okay. That sort of thing.

sammylady37 · 05/03/2025 06:23

I can't really imagine why people are interested in the mundane aspects of other people's lives

I presume it’s because they’ve little of interest going on in their own lives, tbh. If they had anything of note, they’d be less concerned about others. Some of the stuff people are saying that they notice and are interested in astounds me- why would anyone give a fuck what (and how many) takeaways their neighbour eats? Or how long their washing is out for? Or when they take in their bins? Such mundane stuff, how can anyone care about it?

ilovesooty · 04/03/2025 23:56

I get on well with the neighbours on both sides. We chat when we see each other and take in each others ' parcels. I haven't got time to look at people's comings and goings and I couldn't tell you when they get takeaways etc. I can't really imagine why people are interested in the mundane aspects of other people's lives.

SophiaSW1 · 04/03/2025 23:56

I am. There is a lot going on in my building including 3-4 brothels

mondaytosunday · 04/03/2025 23:54

I used to tease a friend for being a curtain twitcher.
I don't care what my neighbours are up to generally but I do admit to trying to listen in to my immediate neighbours - we have adjoining bathrooms in our terrace layout and the bloke is Italian and she's French and he always sounds very animated.
Are those ring cameras recording all the time? I thought it was motion sensitive.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/03/2025 23:46

No. Couldn’t give a shiny what other people are doing.

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 04/03/2025 23:45

sammylady37 · 04/03/2025 20:42

Jesus Christ. Perhaps instead of wishing you were getting a takeaway you should focus on getting a life. I despise people like you.

If this is your despicable level what on earth do you think of the rest of society?
Carry on OP. I love a bit of people watching.

Gabitule · 04/03/2025 23:34

I detest nosey neighbours. For those of you who think being nosey is just a bit of fun or innocent or whatever, I wish my next door neighbour moves next door to you so you can experience what it’s like to be constantly watched and ‘judged’ for what time you come home in the evening, what furniture you get delivered, who visits your house, what you grow in your garden, what’s in your recycling bin and absolutely everything else!!!

stayathomer · 04/03/2025 23:19

I didn’t think I was until I caught a few comments out of my mouth, a ‘that car is back!’ or ‘they’re earlier this morning’ etc etc!

I'm not I know all the neighbours but have no interest in being the local busybody.

Last year I had a serious accident and two ambulances and the fire brigade came to get me to hospital. I subsequently heard that the local nosy parker was sharing a video of me being carried out on a stretcher with all and sundry along our terrace. I was a bit taken aback when I heard about it 😳 it's macabre and she never even got in touch to see if I was okay.

Yeah that’s a step too far. It’s one thing having a little harmless gossip ‘oh Brenda left her bins in the middle of the road for 5 days again’ and another to humiliate someone like that.

sammylady37 · 04/03/2025 23:17

I have an incredibly nosy neighbour, who makes no secret of the fact that she spends the day sitting at her kitchen table looking out the window. (If my life was reduced to that I’d be embarrassed to admit it and also hell-bent on improving it, but she doesn’t seem to care). Anyhow, she frequently tries to engage me in conversation about my life and lifestyle and is completely blatant about it. She tells me how she just can’t figure out my work pattern as I leave and return at different times every day, and some days i pop home once or twice, but at varying times and for varying durations. She’s also very curious about the visitors to my home, particularly the male ones. And my online shopping habits fascinate her. That’s before we get to the fact that some weeks I’m at home every night, others away one night, others away 2 or more. That baffles her. And she’s not afraid to ask! Depending on my mood, I’ll either give her fairly short shrift, be deliberately evasive or send her off on a wild goose chase altogether.

I am not doing anything dodgy, and have nothing to hide, but nonetheless my life is none of her business. I’m a private person by nature and resent the intrusion.

bigdinkydoodah · 04/03/2025 23:16

No I'm not, although I'm the 2nd house down in a cul de sac of 10 houses so everyone has to pass my house. I have noticed a few strange cars entering the street lately!😉

Oh wow, sorry, that sounds serious. I hope you're okay now?

No, being nosy and judging someone's takeaway is not the same as being a complete twat and sending recordings of someone injured to everyone! She sounds awful and wouldn't belong on this thread x

Yessss! I am a nosy neighbour. Not in a malicious way but I like to know what’s going on in the street! I’m lucky as my neighbour across the road is the same so we are able to keep each other in the loop. I also wfh and have befriended the postman - best thing ever for getting the neighbourhood gossip, he knows it ALL.

see i wanted to be like Jason Bourne and know all the neighbour's details like an intelligence officer 007 style, then i get distracted instead

Timmymo · 04/03/2025 22:52

Not nosy, I've got a life. Spying on neighbours, looking for gossip is sad and weird. Get a hobby.
