AIBU to be utterly horrified that the US has cut off military aid to Ukraine?

I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

At least some Americans are speaking out against the decision:

You did not reply to my stance on peace. Can we at least agree peace on any terms is amazing news. It means less deaths. As a mother surely you will agree with peace?

No, peace on any terms isn’t amazing news. Peace on terms that are fair to Ukraine and don’t make a mockery of all the lives already lost would be amazing.

DuncinToffee · 07/03/2025 20:37

Anyway, it seems that Zelenski, a deeply unpopular dictator in his homeland

Can you back up that claim @Crakajak ?

You really have it in for the BBC don't you. So do most people so you can stop carping on about them....on that point you probably won't get much of a debate going.

Please share your source for the 'deeply unpopular Zelensky' comment because as much as you decry the BBC...some of the utter nonsense you've come out with so far doesn't instil alot of trust or faith in your so called 'facts' so uit will be interesting to see who your sources are...comrade. 😃

Fully agree. Who is facts checking the fact checkers. The So called BBC fact checkers have been checked themselves several times and have been caught spinning fake narratives so hey!! Anyway, it seems that Zelenski, a deeply unpopular dictator in his homeland, is thankfully being forced to the negotiation table by the combined pressure of Putin and Trump, both of whom are strictly business and as they say war is bad for business. Hopefully many lives will now be saved. Any bored mom's on here wanting other than peace and boys being able to return home to their worried families need to give their heads a wobble.

War is very good for certain businesses. And can be very bad for human rights.

Not many are leading the department of health and human services

Assuming Darker meant RFK jr rather than JFK

Oops - yes I did!

Wildflowers99 · 07/03/2025 17:01

Sorry if this has already been raised but Poland announced today they’re going to train all men in military skills.

They're lovely people.

I'm sure they are, I was being serious. Poland suffered terribly in WW2 and I don't blame them in the slightest for being concerned about Russia.

Is this for the benefit of people who don’t read beyond headlines?

So they’re helping Russia while making noises that suggest the opposite

… It’s like retailers doubling their prices a couple of weeks before Black Friday

I don’t know, I don’t think it’s to mislead us I think Trump is getting irritated that his GREAT PLAN, that plan where he holds all the cards is not happening 😂 I think he was under the impression he was in charge and Zelenskyy told him to his face (I loved the ‘I’m not playing cards. I’m very serious’) and not backing down and who knows what Putin is up to but he’s not exactly doing as he’s told either clearly. I can see that great friendship between two narcissists going well 🤔

Trump says he’s considering large-scale sanctions on Russia after it attacked Ukraine last night.

Which Trump caused by cancelling intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

Lex345 · 07/03/2025 15:18

I've said on a different thread I think Trump is trying to court Russia-let's face it-threats and sanctions haven't worked, so maybe a charm offensive and flattery will.

It is very unpalatable to be cosying up to Putin and I am certainly glad our PM isn't doing so. However, it may be the only wag to bring about peace. Concessions on both sides, pretty sure Ukraine are losing territory over this. This is, of course, awful. However, if the alternatives are-let the war continue and potentially lose more territory-or forcibly stop Russian advancement (ie. WW3)-what are we to do?

I would be entirely unsurprised if US leave NATO.

The world is changing, and I don't think its necessarily due to one dictator specifically, although they of course play their parts. Instead of seeing less extremist views, we are seeing more. In countries where the western world have tried to free its people from the shackles of dictatorships or extreme regimes, they have reverted back.

The international rule of law or war are no longer absolute-some countries are able to flout well established protocols protecting human rights without consequence, whilst others are held to account.

The world is more tumultuous than ever.

Something major will need to happen to change the direction of travel. Warming relations with US/Russia would certainly change things. Whether for better or worse, well, let's see.

Newspaper frequently have to publish corrections

It’s unfortunate that the corrections and apologies are never very prominent – I think it’s something that should be changed

Activist platform = actual investigative journalism and reporting.

RFK is brainwormed of mind. The axe RFK has to grind is keeping the crazies onside because he makes millions off of getting them to sign up to class action lawsuits against the Pharma industry (look it up, it's true). He needed enough of the crazies to look like they were voting for him to scare Trump into taking him on. It's not disillusionment with the direction of the Democratic Party, it's that flip flopping (and lying) is the only way he could claw his way to power.

@sidebirds Perhaps you should apply for a job on Jeff Bezos's new editorial page.

Bezos is a loathsome eel 🤢

The Washington Post is an activist platform posing as a neutral one. You may as well quote BBC Verify as evidence.

RFK jr. on the other hand is of independent mind: a lifelong member of the Democrat party he became disillusioned with their direction, and stood as an independent candidate before finally throwing his weight behind the Trump re-election campaign. He has no axe to grind and is worthy listening to. Not to mention that - as the Washington Post article you cite mentions - the video in question is from his period as an independent candidate 👍🏾

Where have I heard the term "independent mind" before? Oh yes...

Bernard: It's one of those irregular verbs, isn't it: I have an independent mind; you are an eccentric; he is round the twist.

Yes, Minister never ceases to be relevant.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/03/2025 14:09

... they can't block opinions even eyebrow lifting ones

Actually they can and they do, @justasking111; I've not had it happen to me personally but have watched any number disappear, usually under the catch-all "not in the spirit"

It seems to depepnd on who's on at the time, but certainly it's another inconsistency I've noticed

It's owned by Bezos, now a Trump ally

So which news sources do you trust? All you have given us is a link to that video promoted by a GB News presenter on X
