AIBU to be utterly horrified that the US has cut off military aid to Ukraine?

I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

At least some Americans are speaking out against the decision:

Yes, there was a dodgy altered video of Zelenskyy appearing to take cocaine, however if one keeps an attentive eye on footage of him - for example the full 50 minute press conference from the Oval Office - the telltale signs are there: sniffing and touching his nostrils. Suspected 'dutch courage' that exacerbated his peevish conduct 🤨

*EDITED to explain: "telltale signs" - I once worked with someone in a 'high-powered' business environment with the exact same mannerisms. He turned out to have the habit of which Z is frequently accused.

Edited

Any thoughts on trump and his snorting sniffing snuffling incoherence over the years or is it just Zelensky? Amazing how your indignation for Zelenskys apparent drug use never seems to stretch as far as trump.or musk. Funny that.
The'peevish' conduct seemed to be more trump and vance,
Lied about saying he hadn't thanked them
Lied about the amount of money spent on Ukraine
Lied about Zelensky canvassing for Biden

There's not alot trump and vance are good at but lieing seems to be something they're prolific and consummate at.

I’m starting to wonder if we’ll be looking at another grassy knoll scenario, if he keeps this up.

Unless the Russians have nobbled all the security services too.

We can but hope

Zelenskyy wasn’t peevish. He was very calm. Don’t think that’s compatible with cocaine.

I think they are going isolationist. "America first" was what Trump was elected upon. Sick of US money being spent overseas maybe?

More than that. Trump has no qualms about big organisations (or countries) bullying smaller ones and is happy to do so. He is railroading Ukraine into giving him what he wants and is trying to use the power of the US economy to bully Mexico and Canada into giving him what he wants as well.

He also doesn't give a rats arse about the soverignty of nations or their right to exit. Hence why he is siding with Russia and is quite happy to see Ukraine dimnish in size or disappear so long as he and Russia get what they want.

The coke head thing about Zelensky was an altered video, ........whereas there is Musks reliance on ketamine which he has admitted to.

Then there is trump himself who was snorting something during his apprentice days and certainly an interviews recently where he sniffs alot and sounds as if there was something shoved up his piggy little snout. Theres also rumours of appetite suppressants and maybe the little blue pills to help his little member. 👌...Source Stormy Daniels

I am sorry but I have never in my 50 pus years on this earth read so much crap and seen so many hysterical posts as on this thread. its bloody ridiculous.where on earth are you getting your bizarre ideas from?
President Trump is posturing and making a very valid point to the world,us included, cannot you see that?He is taking a stand and a valid one at that that America is not the saviour of the world especially financially. Why do you all expect that country to finance everything? America owes no country anything, and why should the President and citizens of America be subject to such disrespect? Aid has temporarily been suspended. This is to force the hand of the little man running round the world with his hands out in his action man clothes demanding every other country finance his every whim whilst billions of pounds has gone "missing". Nobody, not one single country,us,France, anyone can go into this with alleged peacekeepers or boots on the ground without America no one, you should remember that.No American backing No dice and no one can move and no peace. Whilst our Pm is rallying leaders of nations no one has the money.weapons or troops to move an inch without America. Trump is forcing the hand of Zalensky to negociate. As for being a russian plant well ffs grow up.This war will be stopped round a table not on the battlefield as zalensky would like glorified by dead soldiers on the ground. I would step back, calm down and have a chill about which scenario would play out the best for everyone.

Great big long post. But no mention of Trump recklessly giving everything to Putin that he wants.

Funny the way that the really indefensible actions are not mentioned by these kind of posters.

Apologies, but you're going to have to point out where and how this is a bad thing?

Your beloved orange-utan is basically a game-show host, after all, so surely you can't be suggesting that a background in light entertainment makes a man unfit for serious public office?

It was in context of an earlier post. But can conclude clowns to left left of me and jokers to the right.

I genuinely think he's a Russian asset, I think it's worrying that we share so much intelligence with the U.S. We are on the brink of the possibility of a very different world in future, militarily, financially and morally. I just hope Europe pulls together and stays strong.

And you don't think being 'friends' with someone like Putin is a good thing because..?
As I understand it, the US called for peace, so why would they continue to fund a war?

So better than Russia then. And not massively below halfway down. Not one of the most corrupt as the poster I responded to said, I believe.
Edit: the poster said ‘very high up’.

Every government in the world has some corruption but some of it is REALLY bad ...America though invited their thieves in, opened the safe doors and told them to fill their boots.

I don't think anyone is saying it's Zelensky pocketing it all but Ukraine has had huge problems with corruption and although they are really moving forwards they are still way down the table.

'According to the most widely cited source—the annual ranking of corruption by Transparency International (TI)—Ukraine has scored poorly for decades. As late as 2016, amid major anti-corruption reforms, TI’s survey still judged Ukraine to be as corrupt as Russia. The most recent TI index suggests that Ukraine has made some strides since then, but it still ranks 104th among 180 countries. Denmark is ranked first—meaning that it is perceived as cleanest—while Russia ranks 141st.'

'Last year, Ukrainian authorities opened a criminal case against Dmytro Firtash, an oligarch also wanted in the United States for corruption, alleging that his group embezzled $484 million from the Ukrainian state treasury in a scheme involving gas transit fees.'

I'm not pro Trump by any means though, voting in a narcissistic megalomaniac is never a clever move in my book. That doesn't mean though that we should pretend Ukraine is squeaky clean.

@Bleekers Thanks for posting that video clip, I love it

Did you think we should be shocked? Not sure what you were trying to prove.

Ps. It's old news. It's been doing the rounds for a few years now

I was impressed at how physically agile Zelensky is..At least he isn't assaulting woman by grabbing them by the 'pussy' as Trump so called it.

RubyTuesday48 · 04/03/2025 16:58

And we spent years paying back $$$ millions to the USA.

This is true, RubyTuesday48, but it's being increasingly presented as Britain paying back "the whole lot" and that the US effectively gave us nothing, and that's not the case at all

You do know that 70% of foreign aid to Ukraine goes straight back into the US economy, right? We ship them old arms and military equipment that we were going to pay to destroy and then build replacements. That's what makes up the majority of the spend.

I was referring to the lack of defence spending by most NATO countries which means that nobody apart from the US can do anything militarily about anything. We talk a good game about supporting Ukraine but can't offer anything substantial (other than criticise the US for not doing it for us) because of too little defence spending over decades,

Ah, I see. I felt the Trump and Vance meeting was akin to an ambush and this is why: President Zelensky was set up. The question is what is President Trump getting out of cosying up to President Putin, because make no mistake he's gaining something out of all of this and it isn't world peace.

If you look into his accounts his businesses are not doing well at all.

And according to many, never have. It seems his businesses are more often than not smoke and mirrors. Like a lot about Trump.

Oioisavaloy27 · 04/03/2025 17:05

ColourBlueColourPurple · 04/03/2025 16:28

The thing is though, surely Trump has enough money already? Why would he be willing to stoop so low just to add a zero on his already millions that he has?

If you look into his accounts his businesses are not doing well at all.
