AIBU to be utterly horrified that the US has cut off military aid to Ukraine?

I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

At least some Americans are speaking out against the decision:

Meanwhile, Russia says Donald Trump's move is "the best contribution to the cause of peace".

Your mainstream media? And they'd never lie of course!😂

Outright lies? Only some of the more obviously politically aligned ones. Reputable ones may have a bias but they don’t publish complete lies. Not good business sense apart from anything else, what with libel laws and such.

Which news sources do you trust?

yes! please tune into the BBC, Sky, CNN. The Guardian is another handy source 🤓

Have you shared you news sources yet?

Who do you trust?

Darker · 06/03/2025 19:20

Speaking for myself, this thread has too much acrimony over information or even opinion.

Please, these are difficult enough times.

Oh, I know. So much better to get news from sources with no fact checking or transparency or editorial oversight! I choose the brave truth warriors whose voices are stifled by the man. You know, like Russell Brand!!!

No enthusiast of Bland myself but I am a great admirer of 'BBC Verify' 🤔

Those sources do have a level of bias. Most media does. What they don’t do is tell outright lies. You’d be better off with them but checking against a source with a different bias.

Why don't you unhinge yourself from x or RT or whatever crackpot source you use, and then we can have a discussion?

I really cannot teach stupid
Well, you seem to making a really good effort to spread stupid, even if you can't teach it, so you can reassure your handlers you're doing your best.

Petuniaspetal · 06/03/2025 18:14

Trumps a friend to the world? 😂

Pissed off Canada, Mexico , Cuba, Greenland, Denmark, pretty much all of Europe, at least half of his own country, and a partridge in a pear tree. On a positive note he is big buds with Putin, Kim Jung Un , Netanyahu and MBS, all renowned for their staunch support of human rights, free speech and female empowerment...so he is in like-minded company.

It sounds like you would love Merica, so if youre not there already i would hop on over there. You'll get on fine if you follow the Stepford wife formula of questioning nothing, never answering back and just do as you're told. You'll certainly not be on mumsnet expressing an opinion thats for sure! I can recommend the Project 2025 booklet, 900 pages of tips and tricks on how all of your rights will be ripped away from you.

Happy reading now.

Handlers? Really? Have a word.

Do you have anything substantive to discuss?

@DuncinToffee · Today 17:09

'Is taking Greenland part of world peace?'

And his Gaza plan for a Riviera of the Middle East, saying Palestinians can never return. I think he's trying to make it into the damn Vegas strip; the man is an absolute fruitloop.

Those 19% who vote that you’re unreasonable to be upset about thus are people who really should make themselves aware of what is really going on and the implications. Perhaps they’re fascists themselves

Tanking the economy and then letting it bounce seems like a way to make a lot of money if you have the inside knowledge.

Well he did it in his last administration. America being mugged off by the money men again. Literally daylight robbery.

No, opinions are interpretations of things. We can have different opinions about whether Brussels sprouts taste nice, or whether Barcelona is a good city for a hen do, or whether Trump’s policies make sense to us.
Disinformati9n is a polite word for lies. So, saying Zelenskyy has bought an expensive house in Florida or that he is a dictator and so on is disinformation. It’s not true. You can’t have the opinion that he has the house, he doesn’t and that’s that. He’s an elected leader so you can’t have the opinion he’s a dictator, he just isn’t and that’s that.
See the difference now?

Actually disinformation is worse than lies. It's lies that are deliberately spread to deceive people to secure economic or political gain, regardless of public harm.

If the shoe fits, @Crakajak

I do wonder how long your MN posting history is...

Just a few quick questions

Who started the war?
Is Z a dictator?
Haa the war cost US 350b?
Should Canada become 51st state?
Are flat tariffs clever?
Where is the Gulf of Mexico?

I could go on, but your views on these would probably clear up the "who shallows disinformation" question

Still waiting

100% agree. Unfortunately the route of misinformation, and utter fiction comes from Trump. The cult like delusional followers believe every word that comes out of his mouth, without having a clue about real events. It is very sad, and alarming to see people being so easily brainwashed.
