Friend's one night stands to get pregnant

Polkadotbikinininii · 03/03/2025 14:03

I know this is none of my business. I won't say anything to her unless she brings it up again. I will NEVER say anything to anyone else.

My friend is late 30s and long term single. She has always wanted kids and is very aware of her age.

She told me drunkenly the other night that a few years ago she started having one night stands with the hope of getting pregnant.

She says that she is open with the men about what she is doing as she has no interest in tricking or trapping them. She is happy to nevet see them again and be a single mum.

She thinks she's done it about 25 times in the last few years. Apparently only a few have said no. Most of the men just want reassurance that she won't go after them for money/relationship. 🤨She said 2 men have said they would like to stay in touch if she gets pregnant.

She is stunningly beautiful and funny so I can well imagine that most men will be so impressed with themselves for getting her in bed that they aren't thinking straight enough to say no.

She is very capable of looking after hererself/a child. She has a strong family network who will make sure the child is sorted if something happens to my friend.

She said that the men who don't want anything to do with any child are deadbeats and she wouldn't want them in their life anyway. I asked about what happened if the ones who are interested turn out to be deadbeats and she said that could happen with any pregnancy. I asked about the child that won't know who their dad is and again, she said it's better than a deadbeat who won't support the child and let's them down.

She reassured me that she does do STD tests and never puts herself at risk. Apparently she is very strict with herself and if she is "going out to make babies" she doesn't drink at all and apparently if she has never bought anyone back when drunk.

I asked why she doesn't use donated sperm. She said she doesn't like the idea of it being medicalised and all the pressure of it and that she was also having fun.

She pointed out that any one night stand could result in a baby with a stranger and at least this way, the baby will be wanted.

I couldn't explain why I think this is all just so yukky. She accused me of slut shaming and pointed out that the men she takes home will be bragging to their friends every time they get a woman in bed and that lots of women take home more men than she does and plenty of people don't use protection.

Ignoring the risks, I don't think it's the taking people home that made me purse my lips. It's the intention behind it. It's irrational but I feel like maybe an accidental baby from a very short relationship is a better idea than a wanted baby after a one night stand?

ARE unreasonable- your friend will make a great mum and there will be good support for her and any baby. She has told you she isn't taking any risks.

ARE NOT unreasonable - getting pregnant ON PURPOSE from a one night stand is grim. She should be exploring other options.

she has slept with 25 men?😮

Rookie numbers…

I don’t get this. Why does she not just go to a sperm bank where the donor has actually given consent and where she can get some information on the donor as well. That would make far more sense, and be safer for all involved. And yes, people do that and then it can be timed to her cycle as well.

This.

Screened for STIs and details on file. Anyway, you day she's done this for a few years snd around 25 ONS and not pregnant yet, so maybe she can't get pregnant. Surprised it's not worked yet.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 03/03/2025 14:48

Plus she also runs the risk of having a child by an absolute steaming idiot.

JHound · 03/03/2025 14:48

She does not sound sensible enough to be a parent.

Jochef · 03/03/2025 14:47

Wish I’d had that foresight

And a load of pigs just flew over my garden. Absolute bollocks she tells them. She’s taking for an idiot and she’s awful.

She’s definitely not telling them.
And she will be bleating for child support if one of these many men is unlucky enough to cause a pregnancy.

Condom up always.,men.

Is this a reverse 🔄?!

Catandsquirrel · 03/03/2025 14:45

She's being honest with them and that's fair enough I suppose.

However, she's not being honest with herself about the risks.

I've been in her position (not re the unprotected sex but mid 30s wanting kids, dating going nowhere but plenty of interest).

But god, the risk of HIV, hepatitis, herpes, even finding herself entangled with someone who turns out to be an arsehole or just someone with completely opposing values who stays in touch and wants to push for access. I would have serious doubts about the kind of man who would agree to this. What does she say they're like?

I would advise her to reconsider sperm donation while she hopefully has time. Also, a spell of dating hard knowing what she wants may do it. If she's well heeled, maybe an agency? Not this.

LilyFox · 03/03/2025 14:44

Yeah I doubt she's being honest about telling the men. Firstly, what a turn off! Secondly, what guarantee do they have that she's never going to rock up down the line asking for child support?!

So on the basis that she's in fact not being honest, it's a pretty shitty thing to do. Oh and no thought being given to the resulting child who will never know their Dad. Which is why I don't agree with sperm banks either.

DetectiveSleuth · 03/03/2025 14:44

I don’t believe that she tells all of them upfront.

sourpuss23 · 03/03/2025 14:43

I would be very concerned about my sexual health if I was her. A pregnancy is one thing. A dose of chlamydia (or worse) that goes untreated for a while is quite another.

It would be much safer and more ethical to use a sperm bank. Not sure I believe she's completely honest with all of these men.

Globalwalker · 03/03/2025 14:43

Isn’t she bothered about contracting HIV and then spreading it to others? It might not be the death sentence that it once was but it’s still life changing and likely devastating to many.

OhCalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 03/03/2025 14:42

You can get more than just pregnant through unprotected sex. She may well do sti tests on herself but she won't know if the men she's sleeping with have infections until after she catches it.

If she's done this at least 25 times and still not got pregnant then donor sperm would be far more reliable with her odds so far. And she can guarantee before sleeping with them that she won't catch anything.

KhakiShaker · 03/03/2025 14:41

Pigcasso · 03/03/2025 14:33

she has slept with 25 men?😮

So what? The issue is it being unprotected. All manner of STIs could’ve been spread around.

NotTheDebtDoctorWithTheHungryScalpel · 03/03/2025 14:40

I don't think these men are so enamoured with her beauty they aren't thinking straight enough and agree to making a baby with her, men are more than capable of saying no.

I wouldn't judge honestly, women have babies a multitude of ways for a multitude to
of reasons, it sounds like she's in a place in life where she has support and money and love to give, so why not?

FluffyDashhound · 03/03/2025 14:38

I'd advise a fwb in her situation and maybe use an ovulation kit to avoid sleeping with people she doesn't need to if her aim if purely to get pregnant and she tells the men. Or she is sleeping with multiples for the dopamine hit and the enjoyment of meeting someone new either way nothing to do with you and that's her choice alone. The men should use contraception themselves if they don't want the risk of a pregnancy

SouthLondonMum22 · 03/03/2025 14:38

I think it's incredibly selfish to try to concieve a child this way on purpose. It is all about what your friend wants with little thought to any potential child.

At least she's honest with the men.

TickingAlongNicely · 03/03/2025 14:37

Considering how shit some men are at being fathers, she might be doing the possible child a favour!

Deedeesharpwhatkindoflady · 03/03/2025 14:37

Pigcasso · 03/03/2025 14:33

The numbers are not the issue but the unprotected sex that's got to be playing russian roulette with her sexual health and subsequently any pregnancy if she did conceive.

Women hold the key to how and where humanity reproduces and perpetuates itself within their bodies.

For some, this is an unacceptable and even terrifying prospect. Hence patriarchy. And within patriarchy, discussions like this.

It's hardly patriarchal to think that deliberately choosing a man who is irresponsible enough to have sex without a condom with a total stranger as your child's putative father is a terrible idea!

CrazythenewNorm · 03/03/2025 14:33

Kahless · 03/03/2025 14:06

Neither of your options work for me.

YABU to judge your 'friend'

I think op may be the friend in question; I could be wrong.

Pigcasso · 03/03/2025 14:33

Araminta1003 · 03/03/2025 14:32

It is also much easier to tell the child the truth about a sperm bank in a child friendly way, further down the line. There are literally books for this and guidance on it.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 03/03/2025 14:32

How on earth can unprotected sex be safe from the risk of an std?

DamnUserName21 · 03/03/2025 14:32

Whether she is upfront with the men or not, any man who has sex with a woman without a condom, is aware they run the risk of pregnancy. Most don't give a shit, IME.

With regard to your friend, I'd be more concerned about STIs including hepatitis and HIV. It's alright doing testing AFTER but this obviously won't stop someone from getting, or passing on if undetected, an infection.

I'd encourage her to find an FWB (and have relevant testing done beforehand) or go for sperm donation as PP have said.
