How to get phone without dh

PandoraBox2 · 03/03/2025 06:02

Dh is being very difficult. My sky phone contract is under his name as sky contract is under his name, I pay for my mobile and the credit report etc. Is under my name. He had to speak to them regarding my upgrade a d ordered a new one. Problem is he still hasn't cha ged his address after 10 years of marriage and it got delivered to his parents home who are not living in UK currently but still own the house. It went to dpd depot and then got returned. I pleaded with him to contact sky as they won't talk to me and he ordered a new one. Again its going to his parents home due to be delivered today. I'm working and parents address is no where near us. I've asked him for tracking I'd but he keeps swearing at me. I'm so lost on what to do. Totally lost without my phone. I'm probably misding kids related communication from school etc. I'm so upset. Can someone help me think clearly on what to do. Money is tight so don't want to buy a new phone when I have one ready to come to me

If the phone is returned to sky. Take the phone contract out in your name. You still use your current sim in it. Or call them ask for a pac code and it will let you keep your number on the new sim if you want to have it all together.

If your sim is the only one on the account text pac to 65075. They will text you the pac code.

The pac is like a key that unlocks your phone number and is valid for 41 days

I pretend to be my husband once on the phone. The man on the phone asked me if I was sure I was 'husband's name' and I said yes. The man believed me or in this day and age are they probably aren't allowed to assume someone's gender by the tone of their voice!

I knew I would get comments like this! Yes I'm aware but what do i do in regards fir my phone a d being able to communicate with people?

get a phone in your own name? And stop paying for the sky one, he'll cancel it.
If you use WhatsApp you can give a "changed number" notice to all your contacts.

That you so much everyone I'm sorry I haven't but replied only just had a chance to log in. I called sky pretending to be my husband! They believed me which I don't know how I feel about lol! They couldn't change address as already dispatched so I contacted DPD who thankfully changed delivery date to my day off. Hopefully will be sorted. Thank you so much and I will log back in to read the rest of the messages.

My abusive ex had me in exactly the same position, took out a 'joint' account with a mobile phone for each of us and arranged for an itemised bill for both numbers to be delivered, addressed to him, every month, I remember thinking how generous at the time, then every month I would get a verbal interrogation on virtually every number I had called which he didn't recognise, after a year of this batshittery I told him what he could do with his phone, went along to my local Carphone Warehouse and sorted myself out with my own phone and contract. This is 2025 not 1925, you don't have to be beholden to him for anything, sort your own phone out, it can be as cheap and quick as you like.

BobnLen · 03/03/2025 10:31

You need to cancel your DD, then you can use that money towards the new contract, Sky will just chase your DH for payment as it is his account so he will have to set up his own DD from his bank

IroningThrone · 03/03/2025 10:23

You're being a bit wet @PandoraBox2 did you really not think to search phone contracts?

https://www.tescomobile.com/shop/motorola/moto-e14 job done.

After that, contact Woman's Sid to help you sort out your husband problem.

Coffeeishot · 03/03/2025 10:21

Ah I read your phone isn't working you will get a reasonable phone and payg or contract sim until he decides to sort out his issues with sky.

YouveGotAFastCar · 03/03/2025 10:19

I don't think you do. It doesn't sound like he's got any intention of changing his address or facilitating you to get the phone, and it's in his name, so the contract must also be in his name - and that means legally you do not own it and have no rights to it. Given his behaviour towards you, I'd consider a phone of your own an essential right now.

If it's not financially possible to get a contract in your name, or get a cheap handset, have you got anyone you could ask if they've got a spare phone? Loads of people keep their older handsets and would happily lend them out. Or an Anon post on your local Facebook group, if you've got one?

Msmoonpie · 03/03/2025 10:17

Go to a shop and buy a cheap one and a pay as you go sim.

Vaxtable · 03/03/2025 10:15

It’s simple you go to a shop, O2, vodaphone, phone warehouse, John Lewis etc and buy one, enter into a contract with them

ShortColdandGrey · 03/03/2025 10:15

I just noticed that he won't give you tracking info. I was going to suggest that you get it delivered to the local post office.

Coffeeishot · 03/03/2025 10:14

Go and get a new sim you can keep your number I'm currently with Tesco sim only for 15 a month. You don't need him you think you do but you really don't, he is being deliberately obtuse to cause you distress. Get your sim and ignore him.

SnappedAndFarted18 · 03/03/2025 10:13

Op I’m sorry your husband is being a twat, I also haven’t read through the whole thread so I apologise if this has been mentioned already but Sky have an option where you can choose any mobile you want from their website & you pay monthly for the mobile only no data/calls etc, when you’ve chosen the phone there will be an option to add a sim that will have a £0.00 option next to it so choose that & when the phone comes assuming you want to keep the same mobile number just put your SIM card in the phone 😌 here’s a link to their website:
https://www.sky.com/shop/mobile/phones

it is a contract & they also do a credit check but you do 100% pay for the phone only - I’ve currently got 2 iPhones with them over a 24 month period for each one & only pay for the phones 😌 I hope this helps & again I apologise if this has been mentioned already 😌

TY78910 · 03/03/2025 10:12

You have two options. Contact sky to change delivery address on the order. You can either impersonate him as you'd likely know all his security details, or ask another male to do so.

Or sod this contract. The phone will eventually go back to depot and the contract won't be activated. You can get your own contract with a provider of your own choosing and then inform DH that he can cancel the rolling sky contract in his own time when he can be bothered

Lurkingandlearning · 03/03/2025 10:11

Can you afford to buy yourself a cheapest of the cheap (not smart) phone and pay as you go, so no contract? At least you won’t be reliant on him and his useless admin skills just to talk to people.

Mirabai · 03/03/2025 10:09

PandoraBox2 · 03/03/2025 07:19

My old phone stopped working completely. I was just data only plan as I didn't upgrade till I needed new phone.

Do you mean SIM only? Data only doesn’t allow calls.

The cheapest way to fix this is to either ring Sky and ask them to send you a new SIM, or take out a new SIM contract with somewhere like Smarty or GiffGaff for way £7 per month for 32GB and buy a £30 phone from the high street. (DH can cancel the Sky contract)

BobnLen · 03/03/2025 10:09

Sky won't care which bank account it is as long as it's paid, as it is a DD they won't ask about billing address, that is for card payments. Our BT account is in DH's name but comes from my bank account.

Mirabai · 03/03/2025 10:04

How did any of your/his other phones arrive? Why would he ask to resend without updating the address?

Either way you have a stupid and abusive husband I’m sorry to say.

WHY do people not read the OP’s thread . MONEY IS TIGHT!

Would be great if everyone could just go out and buy a new phone or even a £38pcm contract for a new handset!

I did read the original post.

You don’t need to put money down on phone contracts. And the suggestion is around cancelling the phone DH is not giving her access to. I’m confused why you think I’ve not read the post.

Regarding the Apple Store there are a variety of handsets available, and plenty of people who find money tight still have the lastest iPhone.

Carphone warehouse have a current deal £10 a month for a phone.

Ultimately, the choice of OP is get to the in-laws to accept the phone. Or sort one out themselves. There is no lucky third option when DH is being such a massive dick. But OP asked us to not focus on that, and to focus on practical advice.

Over40Overdating · 03/03/2025 09:43

There are a lot of holes here @PandoraBox2 so I would wonder if he’s ordered one at all.

The sky contract is in his name and only he can speak to them about the phone he had to order for you yet it is in your name and on your credit check at an address you do not live at. This shouldn’t be possible with strict credit check criteria.

The first phone was returned to depot so his response was to ‘order another one’ - he wouldn’t have to do that, just rearrange delivery. You can have your phone delivered to any address, not just the account holders. I’ve had mine delivered to work addresses which I have no financial link to.

If he was that irritated by you asking him for the phone, he would have given you the tracking to sort. He hasn’t. He’s ordered it to the same address it has already been returned from because like the last time, you won’t be there to collect. I don’t think there is a phone.

Do a credit check - some bank accounts give it for free and then use whatever money you’ve being paying on the previous plan to get a new phone under your control. Get your PAC code today or ring Sky and explain what’s happened.

AlwaysThereBear · 03/03/2025 09:37

I've seen on your OP that money is tight, but i honestly don't know how you can work around this issue with sky, apart from trying to call them and sort it out. Alternatively if you/H has got an online account and you know the account details you might be able to cancel your contract online. I don't know what repercussions there will be for you if you change the address on the account , even if you could, given that your H sounds like a nasty person.

I've been on the Tesco mobile website and they've got a Moto phone with 6gb for £13.50pm or 12gb for £16 pm. Is this something you can afford OP? Alternatively, you can buy a cheap phone from somewhere (argos?) and get a sim only deal from tesco ? You can get 12GB and unlimited calls and texts for a 12 month sim only contract for £11pm or £9.50 with a club card?

PinkyFlamingo · 03/03/2025 09:32

What's wrong with your old phone?

Spondoolies · 03/03/2025 09:27

You can get pay as you go phones for less than £30, if OP has any family or friends chances are one of them would have an old Nokia or something that would do the job.
