Middle-aged professional women doing drugs on the weekend

Is this common now? I was invited to a house party Saturday night and snow was being done quite openly, there were also Mary Jane vapes and Ecstasy passed around.

These were mainly mothers with adult grown sensible families. What is going on, am I totally not with it?

Was it always this way or is this scene infiltrating a different demographic now?

We always knew people like this did this, but was it this open and accepted?

I didn’t partake, still a great night.

That was me and my friends when l was 30’s / 40’s . Then l got into recovery and got sober and the thought of it now disgusts me ! ( yes l am like a reformed smoker ! ) what l never bothered to think about was the link between us and young boys being seduced into a dangerous life life of crime to supply many so called “respectable” people with a few lines at a party etc . It’s illegal at the end of the day and the normalisation of casual drug taking is ( as l was ) hypocritical when l looking down on people involved in the daily stabbings and issues in gangs in the UK thinking it had nothing to do with me. Just my opinion and not personal to anyone here who partakes , but yes OP you are not unreasonable to think it’s not ok.

ew.

Cant bear drugs. But I’ve never been cool. Grew up with an alcoholic and a stoner. My sister does everything up to horse tranquilisers. She’s currently parading on the internet half-naked and gurning. It’s not a good look and not an avenue I’ll ever want to pursue.

say no to drugs kids (ladies).

I've been around people (acquaintances) who were seemingly 'respectable', 'middle class' people with professional jobs (headteachers/ solicitors etc) and they were all snorting coke and taking e's. They're all parents though kids weren't there. I was a bit surprised and I didn't think I was naive.

I did it all when I was late teens/ early twenties but would never touch it now. I wouldn't want to but even I if I did I could lose my career.

It's this educated professional crowd that do it most in my experience!

LoveRicePudding · 04/03/2025 17:57

I'm a middle aged woman and the only drug I take is the occasional ibuprofen. And vitamin D and C. Does that count? My current drug of choice is yoghurt with honey and walnuts.

The issue I suggest is a bit like Child Pornography and the devastation that the supply chain causes

You mean Child Sexual Abuse material. They are images of a crime in action not pornography. That term is deeply offensive to survivors. https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/news/why-language-matters/child-sexual-abuse-material

But on your point I agree. The devastation caused by the cocaine supply chain, from children and adults having limbs blown off in the mined coca fields to children groomed into county lines operations and so much more along the way.

That intelligent, middle class adults are doing coke at parties in their 40s/50s while no doubt monologuing about all the charity work they do as if there’s no consequences to their fun is sickening.

Why language matters: why we should never use ‘child pornography’ and always say child sexual abuse material | NSPCC Learning

This blog post looks at the significant impact of using the term 'child sexual abuse material' instead of ‘child pornography’ which diminishes the seriousness of the crime. It is aimed at anyone working in the wider child protection sphere (in any capa...

Unfortunately we live in a society of increasingly stupid people who don't care if their kids end up orphaned because they're dead from an OD in hospital.

Natural selection.

Sounds good. Post the address before you go to the next one?

I stand corrected. I'm uncomfortable with it. I don't care about cannabis personally, but do think it indicates a huge move towards a two tier health system. So it's legalised for the very rich?

Thank you🙏😊
The prices are comparable to those on the black market, so I wouldn't say it's legalised for the very rich, more like the black market and the medical market are in competition with each other.
(And lets not forget it's easy to grow your own for free)

Personally I think that someone who grows a small amount of weed for personal recreational use is not morally insuperior to someone who gets pissed every weekend. And I think people who think otherwise are hypocrites. I’m not missing key points at all. Not once did I say I think it’s fine to take class A drugs in comparison to alcohol.

I agree with you 100%, TheiceBear, nothing wrong with growing a little bit and someone who does that is far from inferior to anyone else, never mind drunks who can be far more objectionable than weed smokers.

Tapofthemorning · 04/03/2025 14:43

You are completely wrong.
Private prescriptions are very easy to obtain, eg https://releaf.co.uk/

If I’ve managed to reach the age of 51 without becoming a junkie, it just might be possible that wasn’t by accident. My temptations are not quite as exciting. I have been exposed to drugs taking from teen onwards countless times, that wasn’t the surprising part, the surprised was WHO was doing it.

The surprising part is that you find it suprising. I do hope you made your excuses and left.

Mrsbloggz · 04/03/2025 10:35

Tapofthemorning · 03/03/2025 21:51

A private prescription for very specific medical uses, that's very rarely granted. That's hardly the same. It's not like you could go to a GP and get it because you wanted to get high, is it? You'd need a specialist consultant who'd provided cannabis oil.

I don't dispute that alcohol is harmful. I really agree actually. But you're missing key issues. 1. Alcohol and drugs are closely interlinked. 2. Drugs are - like it or not - illegal. While this remains, bad people are profiteering and users are complicit in enabling county gangs, environmental terrorism and murder. There's an ethical and moral argument, which there simply isn't with alcohol.

4pm!!! I worry about that after midday 😂

WilfredsPies · 03/03/2025 22:01

TheIceBear · 03/03/2025 21:21

@WilfredsPies Yes exactly. It is a stereotype that you are describing. You also made comments earlier that working class middle aged people don’t brag about taking drugs at the weekend. Which isn’t true.and which you seem to have forgotten you said. I’m not offended, I just thought your post was angry and silly and presumptuous.

Edited

My post was angry because it is something that angers me. If it doesn’t anger you then that’s on your conscience and no concern of mine.

It is a stereotype that you are describing I repeat, it is a pretty accurate stereotype of the sort of people who act like their shit doesn’t smell, before shovelling coke up their noses with their professional friends though.

You also made comments earlier that working class middle aged people don’t brag about taking drugs at the weekend. Which isn’t true.and which you seem to have forgotten you said Why would you think I’d forgotten I said it? Would you like me to give a précis of my posting history every time I reply to you to prove I remember my own posts? And as I also said, drug abuse occurs in every section of life, but she refers to a politician, a magistrate and a teacher. How many of the guests there would you be willing to bet live on a council estate or work in minimum wage jobs? How many supermarket workers etc spend their working weeks acting like they are pillars of the community before shoving coke up their noses? The entire thread, and all the similar threads that pop up on here from time to time are always about professional, middle class people taking drugs at social events. Can you really not see the hypocrisy there? Are you friends with a single person who openly admits to not giving a shit about the environment? Or people trafficking? Or social issues in the UK?

I’m not offended, I just thought your post was angry and silly and presumptuous And you’re welcome to think that. I think something quite similar about your posts. But I’m pretty sure that we’ll both sleep soundly tonight without letting it bother either of us too much.

The thing is someone who gets pregnant at 15 and becomes a mum at 16 is likely to be as vulnerable as the kids who get mixed up in county lines, they just don't realise it. The difference between the 16 year old mum and the county lines teens is that it isn't a crime to be a young mum and there is financial support and help once they find themselves in that situation. Often the county lines kids are sucked in at a young age before they've even realised what's happening, and once they realise the path they're on, then they're in way over their heads with threats to family and themselves, that it's very difficult to get out. It becomes their life. There is no financial help and they feel there is nowhere to turn - they feel it's a hopeless situation.

Years ago a pregnant 15 year old might have had a backstreet abortion, or been sent away to a home for unmarried pregnant girls and been subject to forced adoption. They might have felt hopeless too.

Sorry still don't feel sorry for the little shits.
Obviously getting pregnant at 15 is not a crime it's my business and I've never harmed anyone else unlike these "kids" who get so much sympathy on this thread the same kids who beat up other kids just for looking at them, cause so much trouble no one can walk through town centres past 6pm and have hospitalised old people. 95% of these kids knew exactly what they were getting into.

I think you'll find the main difference between a teen mum and a teen involved in county lines is you'd be safe in a room with me when I was 15

Cannabis is not legal for recreational use, you can however easily obtain it legally if you get a private prescription. A private prescription is very easy to obtain.
I appreciate you don't agree with me but I would say that it's de facto legal for recreational use given how easy it is to obtain for medical use.

It's not legal, it's a class B drug. I actually think drugs should be legalised but not for the middle classes to piss about on. Instead I think it's so drugs profitering could be eliminated, county lines reduced and environmental terrorism suspended - although I admit I have a rudimentary knowledge of all this. I also think there's huge scope to help people hooked on drugs like heroin, which - let's face it - does kill vast numbers. Needle exchanges etc would be a start. Frankly I couldn't give a fuck about middle class people shoving coke up their noses at 45 and thinking they're edgy because of it.

people really shouldn’t be taking alcohol either for the same reason. It costs the taxpayer millions for all the treatments for alcohol related diseases plus all the accidents, damage and deaths that are caused by alcohol. So most of the country live in a self entitled bubble it seems, supporting the alcohol industries.

It’s not nearly as bad as drugs.
