Flying with newborn – WWYD?

Hi all,

Looking for advice/reassurance from those who’ve done it before! We’re due to fly next month with our newborn (will be 7 weeks at the time) and I’m starting to feel a bit wobbly about it. It’s a short-haul flight (about 2.5 hours), but I have visions of a screaming baby and glares from fellow passengers…

Has anyone flown with a newborn and lived to tell the tale? Any tips for keeping them settled? Planning to BF during take-off and landing to help with ears, but wondering if there’s anything else I should be doing. Also, how much faff is it getting through security with all the baby paraphernalia? We’ll have a sling and DH will be with me, so at least I won’t be juggling it all alone.

Would love to hear your experiences – be gentle, please! Feeling a bit anxious about the whole thing.

The engine sounds will be white noise. I flew 4 hours when my youngest of 4 was 8 weeks and she slept the whole way. Easy.

Wouldn’t even consider it. Seen enough frazzled parents flying with babies to convince me.

Buy a priority security pass to get through the queues, the noise etc is quite unsettling so getting through quickly is a good idea.

I flew with a 12 week old. Just allow more time at the airport for feeds, nappy change, security and you’ll be fine.

A short haul flight and two of you, I think it will be fine... probably easier than taking a rambunctious toddler! If your baby does cry, then its just tough luck for other passengers to be honest. Crying babies on planes don't bother me at all.

You’ll be fine. One of the best ages to fly. Once they start moving is a nightmare.
