Boys going to the gents by themselves what age?

Khgvnjj · 02/03/2025 07:41

Ds is turning 7 and increasingly wants to go to the public toilets by himself. I grew up in a household of only women so no experience of this. When sis your boys start going to the gents by themselves? Did you put any caveats in place?

I walked into the ladies at my gym the other day and the was a lad in there with his mum. I would say 8 or 9 and I didnt feel that comfortable

Yes. Agreed. Dd used to be freaked by this at our pool

I had terrible terrible periods

no males over 8 max should be in women’s toilets

Okay, when you’re happy to risk your child then I’ll risk mine. There’s no reason mine should be at risk of sexual assault or anything else any more than yours just because he happens to be male.

Until then I’ll continue to use the women’s when I feel it’s not safe for him to be alone and I’ll give 0 fucks too.

Obviously not but an adult man in the ladies toilets is much more likely to have malign intent than a prepubescent child with his mum.

The logic from the op was that her dd is “safely in the cubicle”

I Disagree, but if that it her logic then why does age make a difference??

Well I think that’s a poorly thought out reply to be honest considering we are talking about protecting vulnerable groups (women and CHILDREN) from sexual assault by adult males. You’re suggesting that it’s too dangerous to allow your daughter to be around a prepubescent child in a closed cubicle yet I’m supposed to allow my child around an adult man with his penis out unsupervised?

But no I wouldn’t be embarrassed about an adult male seeing me wash blood off my hands either if that’s what you’re asking. Not that that would even happen because who wanders to the sink covered in blood? I’ve literally never seen that in my 30 odd years of using women’s toilets.

Spot the man on the thread.

That aside I think height and maturity are probably better indicators of when boys can use the gents rather than age.

So adult men would be ok in there?

Most boys have mothers or sisters or relatives who have periods you know. It’s not some phenomenon to shield from the men.

I also have daughters. They are safe in a cubicle and don’t care who’s next door as they wee, why would they?

A woman with hands covered in blood? Bot staring?

My dd was also very uncomfortable with boys in toilets and changing rooms.

Most gyms and swimming pools have an 8 year old maximum cut off

I completely agree with @LondonSchoolsHelp

I feel that young boys are at the same risk of SA as young girls...you wouldn't send your DD into the men's toilets alone so I certainly won't be sending my DS into them alone.

Exactly.

Let’s not risk the women around the men incase they are assaulted. Too dangerous for men to be in women’s spaces.

Lets save women’s embarrassment and send the little boys in instead 🙄 because men never assault children despite the fact they can’t even be in a women’s space without being a risk…

Boys. You mean children? Children can’t be in women’s spaces? Why not.

What interest do you think a 7yo boy has with a woman having a wee in a cubicle? A woman washing her hands at the sink?

Theres literally nothing to see. Not like in a urinal where he will be standing next to a strange man with his penis out is it?

Edited

I did let him go to the gents in a busy mainline station a few months ago, thinking we should start doing this more, and stood outside with my heart in my mouth. He then emerged and said a man had been looking at his private parts at the urinal…. So I probably won’t do that again for a while.

I find this really tricky as I have two DSs and the older one (9) has some additional needs. I let him use the gents depending on location, eg local McDonalds, supermarket, with me waiting outside. But I often travel with them and I don’t feel comfortable having him in the gents in the service station while I’m in the ladies so I’m afraid I do take them both in (the little one is only 4). I’ve never had anyone comment on it. Where there is a family toilet I will choose that option.

This.

What harm is a prepubescent boy in a toilet cubicle with his mother?

Worlds gone mad if women can’t use a toilet because there’s a small boy potentially next door…yet there could be a fully grown man in a dress and you wouldn’t know 🤷‍♀️

People can risk their children if they want but I won’t be and feel no shame in that. I also have daughters and still feel the same.

“Approaching” puberty, “near” secondary school age - these are primary aged children we are talking about, who have not gone through puberty.

Women’s toilets all have cubicles so there is limited to zero risk of a woman or girl being seen by never mind coming to any harm from a prepubescent boy accompanied by his mother.

Compare that with sending a prepubescent boy alone into male toilets where men (who let’s not forget make up 99+% of sex offenders) will be urinating in urinals.

It’s not really a hard decision for me. I have a 6yo and he will be coming into the ladies toilets with me for some years yet.

DS started going alone at 5, he just refused to come into the ladies anymore but I did always loiter outside the men’s toilets and shout in and him. By 6/7 he was confidently going alone, I do think it’s odd when 8 year old boys are in the women’s toilets to be honest.

Yes

Location dependent, 7ish in restaurants and places like that, nearer 10 in places like train stations, airports etc.

This is what I did. I also waited outside though, most times, during the first six months or so.

Somewhat changed your tune from your earlier post saying it was weird for a 7/8 year old to go in the ladies.

not at all! I’d ban them from eight. As the question I was asked

Weird

RaveToTheGrave1 · 02/03/2025 21:07

My son is 7 and my husband goes in with him or he comes with me, I've been wondering about this myself cos it's all to easy to imagine them getting over powered or something, I know that's ott but it's where your mind goes!

ShinyClouds · 02/03/2025 21:07

BlumminFreezin · 02/03/2025 21:06

Well in that case, maybe we should just send boy children into the gents alone as toddlers? After all, a 2 year old is still a boy and has a penis just as much as a 7 year old.

What age do you think boys should be banned from the ladies?

8 years max
