To think mumsnet it’s not a place to find help anymore.

I believe mumsnet has had its place from line eyes threads to people being able to recognise and notice abuse they are in and I think the idea of it and the main principles of it are a fantastic resource for people who need the support system.
however so many people have taken over as a way to belittle or put down other posters rather then just offer a handhold or some advice or support in which they are offering. It’s okay and healthy even to be told a opinion which differes from the origianl post (I’m sure this may get one or two) however people are just mean spirited and downright nasty on some threads especially where people seem to be asking for advice.

I saw a women who’s post was all around domestic abuse and the comments literally said “I bet you have a council house” followed by “with a dog and crushed grey velvet” when the whole post was on how to stop feeling guilty for leaving the relationship as well as teplied saying your partner sounds awful when the post was all about OP leaving the relationship.

then another post I saw had a women asking for breakfast without her husband and a response like “two people that don’t love eachother shush living together how sad”- how would you know that from a post about breakfast.

I also saw a post on a mum asking for support with an abortion with a new partner with so many replies saying how stupid and idiot she had been and not educated rather then word in away to get contraception next time to prevent it again hope you recover.

im not saying mumsnet is bad but it’s not a place to go if you genuinely need support as the replies can be so mean spirited especially at the moment

To quote the OP Although I agree that it is full of women who have nothing better to do then put people down and act like the sun shines out their asses

what I’m guessing that the op recently started a thread and didn’t receive the responses she wanted. Hence this thread.

and interesting to work for a women’s charity and recommend mumsnet and yet you have the above view of mumsnet 🤔

It is in your training to recommend mumsnet

that is terrifying

OP, you really need to raise this with the organisation you volunteer for. I volunteer for a charity supporting vulnerable people, and I love MN, but it is wholly inappropriate to be directing service users to social media. Women's aid, Samaritans etc. but not user generated social media

agreed!!

CountessDraculastrikes · 01/03/2025 21:42

There are a handful of very prolific posters who name change daily and are online nearly day and night. They are like a black hole and get pleasure from being nasty to those seeking advise and some support to help them feel better.

It seems like there is a lot of them, but it’s the same few, saying the same nasty things.

I believe the majority on Mumsnet are wonderful kind people. I just read a post earlier today that nearly brought me to tears how compassionate and helpful this person was.

Don’t feed the trolls! Ignore ignore ignore. They probably have some developmental problems that make them behave at toddler level, but that may be an insult to toddlers.

gamerchick · 01/03/2025 18:07

You think most of them are women? Theres a lot more men on here than you think.

Yup. This.

BellissimoGecko · 01/03/2025 20:44

I disagree. Generally posters are helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

SprinkleOfSunak · 01/03/2025 20:17

I agree OP.

I regularly leave Mumsnet as the nasty comments I witness, and have been subjected to myself are just far too much. I return every now and then though as I like reading posts even if I don’t contribute to that many or start a lot of my own.

I have received some great support over the years, and have seen some given to many others too, but in every single thread there are several examples of nastiness that I just can’t comprehend.

MyJoyousKoala · 01/03/2025 19:49

100% agree with the OP. Only ever posted once on here but some of the responses were really unkind.

Errors · 01/03/2025 19:47

You have to have a thick skin and excellent critical thinking skills to post on AIBU

It’s not the most balanced of places, although it can be. Controversial but I have seen ‘LTB’ thrown around for even the slightest transgressions

I remember posting once when on holiday with my teens (as a single mum). They were being brats. I received so much kindness and helpful comments, which resulted in me having more of a 'fuck it' attitude and enjoying the holiday more!
I've probably name changed when posting about my difficult ex husband but again, the comments were amazing.
So I do know what you're saying, OP, but there's a lot of good out there as well.
Thank you Mumsnetters Smile

Hobnobswantshernameback · 01/03/2025 19:42

Well I'd seriously question your line manager about that.
Shockingly poor

JaneJeffer · 01/03/2025 19:40

What fun Saturday night on MN is

Perfect example of such nonsense on this thread
And yes to anyone signposting vulnerable women to a forum that has recently had several instances of images of abuse being posted.
Talk about not doing your job properly

Steer clear of AIBU if you can't take it. Go to the specific topics/boards and the support is outstanding imo

I would be very concerned about any professional that signposted service users to one of the most trolled sites for support.
Especially people experiencing domestic abuse given how many of the trolls on here are MRA.
I would seriously question their professionalism

Esp given the hideous paedophile troll photos recently.

My teens are educated and aware enough to know that the term ‘Karen’ is sexist and nasty. Perhaps you all need to educate yourselves now that you know.

Why are avoiding sexist terms and having ‘real’ problems mutually exclusive in your world?

I'm sorry you've taken my, and others' well-intentioned posts as a reason to leave ('flounce' in Mumsnet parlance).

As you don't like the easily-offended, why not swallow your own offence and stick around - you can't judge a site in two hours!

ShamrockShenanigans · 01/03/2025 19:16

But, to be offended by every single bloody thing in this world is just past the point of ridiculous.

Well yes that would be ridiculous.

And probably impossible also.

If a young mum is alone with mental health we would suggest helplines, online forums, websites and local groups to attend? It's not that strange?

I used to work for a mental health charity and signposted people to all kinds of services including online. I would never have suggested Mumsnet.

Surely you have explained to your kids the misogyny behind that awful term?
My DC's are 17 and 15, and they detest its usage.
