To think Britain should have nothing to do with this war

After yesterday's news, Britain shouldn't be the one funding war as USA has said they are out now. There's no chance Britain can fight this war alone with Ukraine against Russia.
Since this war started, our life has only become miserable with CoL increase.
AIBU to think we shouldn't have anything to do this war and we should fix our own problems first before giving away our tax money?

I’m sick to death of wars and power struggles. Power hungry mad men! Ruining the peace of the majority that just want to live in harmony, but no fucking no. It’s the younger generation that are sent out with their rifles and bombing equipment to do that actual fighting whilst them narcissistic bastard hide in their bomb and bullet proof residences. It makes me sick. The ‘leaders’ should get in amongst it but they won’t risk their owns lives, but they’re more than happy to throw younger innocent population to the lions.

Greedy, never satisfied, power hungry dictatoring bastards!

@Biscuitsnotcookies what has Russia done to our country that warrants sending troops to die? I don't mean what do you think they'll do because there's no way you can possibly know this, only Putin can, I mean what have they actually done that's worth dying for? There's no glory in war only innocent lives lost.

Are you serious???!

Russian agents smeared a toxic substance on A British property hoping to kill a Russian family and dumped what was left. In doing so, they murdered a British citizen and made several other British citizens seriously ill.

what choice is there but to try and see,

History tells us Putin can’t be trusted so you can hardly blame Zelenskyy for questioning their integrity.

No one wants the war to continue, but the fact is Trump is prioritising a MINERALS deal over and above the death of tens of thousands of Ukrainians. The war isn’t over and he is already totally disregarding the carnage.

Good Lord. It is just shocking. People are dying as we speak and Trump is lining his pockets with their blood. I’m appalled.

I have no faith in the ‘peace’ deal if one were to even exist.

It's amazing how many people on this thread keep telling others to "study history" and "look at history" when literally their only frame of reference is World War 2. There have been a lot of other wars in the recent past and most of them were not solved by completely defeating the enemy.
I hate to break it to you all but it isn't the 1940s any more, Russia is a fully nuclear armed state and isn't going to be "defeated" like in world war 2, outside of your fantasies. So the best thing is to push for peace and stop the pointless killing.

Edited

No it isn't like WW2 but it does have similarities to the 1930s with appeasement that still led to a war that we were militarily unprepared for.

Also, Russia linked cyber hackers are constantly attacking our public bodies etc already. We are already essentially "at war"

The Russian government has murdered a UK citizen living in the UK via their attempt to murder the Skripals. It is as simple as that. We are definitely in a serious state of conflict. That’s before we get to the hacking, the attempts to cut our undersea cables and buzzing our air space. It’s time to seize AND USE all assets of Russians in the UK that we know are close to the regime. All property, all money, the whole lot.

Trump mentioned his attire when he greeted Zelenskyy on arrival.

The reporter is a trusted Trump supporter

I know. It doesn't matter in this case because some media outlets and writers will be very-pro Trump. That's to be expected.

you wish the war of attrition would win, run the numbers etc its wishful thinking
the economic and military costs alone would bankrupt nations and then reduces entire populations to ghosts.

I am amazed you see this as a choice personally. It’s not a choice. Russia are not going to give up and go away are they? Deal or no deal. A war of attrition will eventually run Russia’s resources into the ground.

Most sensible post I've read. I suspect that there's not many who would make the ultimate sacrifice or send their family members but expect others to go to the battlefield.

@countrygirl99
Don't make any presumptions pls

I said there is no appetite for war in this country. People are tried, they don’t want another war, they don’t want to send their sons and daughters to fight in a war in another country.

Ask about, see how many people you know who would willing go and fight today for Ukraine, or who would send their children, with limited resources, training and protection.

History has shown up that British involvement hasn’t always been that welcome.

This military family has no choice. Two of its members have careers in the armed forces. If they become boots on the ground we will be immensely proud of them.

For those who beat the war drums, tell me what exactly is the preferred endgame?

Do you truly believe that throwing wave after wave of soldiers into the inferno will suddenly make Putin bow his head?

Unless you’re ready to turn the key and bathe the world in nuclear fire, this war doesn’t end with a glorious charge it ends in exhaustion, in rubble, in a battlefield where victory tastes as bitter as defeat.

Yes, I understand the desire for Ukraine to triumph. Its certainly a righteous cause, But tell me have you ever seen a kingdom rise from ashes?

Or does history teach us that when the dust settles, it’s the vultures who feast?

You may claim victory in the end, but when the cities are smouldering ruins and the streets are paved with ghosts, what exactly have you won?

So I ask you how many of you, sitting in your comfortable homes, would still cheer for war if the price was watching Europe burn?

If the choice is between strategy and self-destruction, then only fools choose fire

What’s the phrase? Something about those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past?

but that's only when every single thing is the same, as sometimes you have to take a risk, what's the alternative wave after wave of body's , then what and victory at what cost ? if Europe burns as a result then what ?

We’ve been at war with Russia since at least the run up to a Brexit. A cyber war lasting almost a decade. We’re now on the precipice of a physical war.

They will not stop until they defeat the West.

They have already installed their Trojan horse President in the US and have various others across Europe such as Farage, Orban, Le Pen and ADF.

We’re on a tightrope but we cannot give in or fail.

Why when anyone suggests x action they refer back to history and auto assume that if we did x then it would be the same ?

just because events are similar or a certain outcome or proposed plan does not mean the rest will be the same

Russia, Iran and China are on the same land mass as Europe. Time will allow Russia to rebuild.

The same land mass as Russia... what's your point? You don't appear to be making any sense.

Pressure should be put on Russia to cease fire.

Well USA will not be putting pressure on Ukraine for a peacefire - USA want money for this deal.

USA and UK, Russia gave assurance that Ukraine could get rid of its nuclear weapons and they would make sure they weren't invaded

I disagree . I think Putin only wants Ukraine. It’s clearly always been about the natural resources and he thought it would be easy as Zelensky isn’t an experienced politician or leader. I think a lot of countries backing Ukraine were hoping to help and get something in return (access again to those natural resources) but now it’s gone on so long that Trump has steamrollered in and made it clear what it’s always been about, thought he could get it sorted asap and is now losing his temper as he can’t. He will be warning us off next and telling any country that backs Ukraine that they are also going to be responsible for WW3

Edited

So true. And Hitler only wanted Czechoslovakia. If only we had just let him have it.
