Secretly Recorded by GP

I am seeking advice on a matter. I found out my accident that my GP recorded a telephone appointment without permission. I have complained to the practice and ICB, however they have not done anything. Does anybody have any advice or suggestions

Boy do I have some news for you about practically every company you speak to on the phone!

crackfoxy · 28/02/2025 19:35

Most GP calls are recorded and you would have been advised of this with a automated announcement when you called. If you weren't then I think you have recourse to complain. Not sure why though, almost all calls are recorded to companies/ shops

Missgemini · 28/02/2025 19:34

All GP calls are recorded. I suspect you’ve been not so nice to the staff. Why did you suddenly find out and why are you bothered?

Oioisavaloy27 · 28/02/2025 19:34

I don't understand why it's an issue.

tallhotpinkflamingo · 28/02/2025 19:32

Stop being a dick to NHS staff and you'll have nothing to worry about.

PriOn1 · 28/02/2025 19:29

When you say you found out by accident, what do you mean exactly?

If they told you about it because there was a dispute about what was said, that wouldn’t be by accident. Did you accidentally hear part of the recording or something?

Yes, I understand they may be, but people should be told if they are being recorded.

User1111122 · 28/02/2025 19:28

It should tell you on the phone system or the website. The calls are for everyone’s safety not just training

diddl · 28/02/2025 19:26

Wouldn't an appointment be recorded to write up records?

It is not necessary, in person appointments are not recorded.

RuthW · 28/02/2025 19:26

All calls are recorded. Doesn't natter whether it's a telephone consultation or you are making an appointment.

Medical professionals record all consultations. Whether typed during consultation, phone calls, econsults.
Standard practice.
Why are you upset?

All GP calls are recorded, it says that when you dial in.

It doesn’t say that when I call my GP! Mind you they rarely even answer the phone! I’ve had many telephone consultations and I’ve never been told the consultation will be recorded.

I thought that it was illegal to record a conversation without the knowledge and consent of all parties involved.

Mine doesn’t say that.

Neither does mine, I think it should be required to state that the call is recorded.

terracelane23 · 28/02/2025 19:17

I'm not sure what the issue is. I'd feel reassured by a recording in case there was a misunderstanding about what was discussed, or if the GP needed to listen again to check symptoms etc.

lnks · 28/02/2025 19:15

I think the fact the that OP hasn't come back is very telling

autisticbookworm · 28/02/2025 19:15

At the beginning of the call at my gps it says calls may be recorded for training purposes. It's fairly common practice

HiCandles · 28/02/2025 19:13

Perfectly normal practice. It's not listened to unless either patient or doctor raises an issue of some kind meaning it needs to be. In that case it is going to support one person's version of events more than the other, and presumably that's the root of your problem.
Did you complain about something and it turned out the doctor had or hadn't acted appropriately?

I'm not sure what the problem is here?

Catza · 28/02/2025 19:07

Every medical professional you see has a detailed record about your appointment. We are legally obligated to do it and don't need your permission. We only need your permission to share your records.

Whaleandsnail6 · 28/02/2025 19:06

What exactly is your issue?

Are you unhappy that you were not informed that the call was recorded?

Or

Are you unhappy that the call was recorded full stop and if you had known, would you not have gone ahead with the call?

when you say your complaint to IMB and practice have not done anything do you mean you have been ignored or you dont feel thay have resolved the issue?

crockofshite · 28/02/2025 19:04

GPs are using AI to create notes, both during phone and F2F consultations.

You're over reacting.... Unless you have reason to believe the GP is using the recording for nefarious activities ....
