Would you judge this in someone’s house?

I’m currently re-decorating parts of my house. I’ve come across a website that sells prints for the walls and I’ve found some I really like;

This house is full of love, laughter, and a little bit of what the fuck.

Pardon the mess, I decided not to give a shit today.

If you’re happy and you know it, it’s your meds!

As you can probably tell, our house is already a little bit eccentric with its decor… but would you judge someone for having prints like that on the wall with children living in the house or am I just overthinking it? 😅

Tacky. Sorry.

Iamnotabot · 28/02/2025 12:04

My main through would be they were lame (sorry) but also maybe not the best mottos to instill into kids minds.

Really tacky.

Written word signs are a big no IMO, no matter what they say. The swearing itself wouldn't particularly bother me.

OldChairMan · 28/02/2025 12:00

If you think you are eccentric, or you aim to be eccentric, then you are most definitely not eccentric.

Ankhmo · 28/02/2025 11:59

Cringe.

Right up there with..
"I'm mad me..."

Eye roll so hard I can see smells now..
"No you're not mad Brenda, you're the same as every other fucker that thinks they're a bit quirky because they go out of their way to portray eccentricity as a replacement for a personality."

ginasevern · 28/02/2025 11:59

I'd judge you for the crime of naffness and then I'd wonder how you thought that was OK with young children but not if they were teenagers.

orangesandlemonssaythebellsofstclements · 28/02/2025 11:59

I've seen worse though

When we looked round our house, the current occupiers had a 4 foot pink heart above the sofa with "Amy and James AKA Barbie and Ken" written in it (names changed) I nearly puked.

Inertia · 28/02/2025 11:58

That’s not really eccentric though- it’s just blindly following a different style of mass consumerism. To be genuinely eccentric , you’d need more than swear words- I’d think of eccentric styling as decor that’s unique to you/your family, perhaps with individual artwork, or inventively repurposed items.

Permanently displayed swearing in a family home seems a bit attention-seeking. And it’s tricky to explain to children why they shouldn’t say swear words that are on show in their kitchen.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 28/02/2025 11:58

I'm another on the side of 'hating anything written on walls or signs in a house'. They might be cute or amusing when you first put them up, but everyone in the house stops seeing them after the first week and they're just 'there', taking up space which might host better artwork or something more meaningful and personal, like photographs or kids' drawings. I also don't need to be told to 'Laugh' or 'Dance', I'll do that in my own time, thanks, not because eight inch neon green letters have instructed me to.

But my brother and his wife have all this kind of thing all over their house and I adore them and wouldn't dream of criticising, so you do you and if you love it, why not?

Magnastorm · 28/02/2025 11:57

Personally I hate even the non-funny ones and would never have them in my house.

But it's your house, you can have whatever you like on the walls and if visitors judge, who cares, really? I would maybe raise an eyebrow if you've got kids wrt the sweary ones, but otherwise: crack on.

dontforgetme · 28/02/2025 11:56

No I wouldn't judge.

The second is one is shit but the other 2 I like!

Dollydaydream100 · 28/02/2025 11:56

Yes I'm afraid I would judge and think they were crass and naff. However it's your home and you do what you like!

Namerchangee · 28/02/2025 11:56

Totally cringe and inappropriate around young kids.

Hairoit · 28/02/2025 11:56

Taste wise, you do you. It’s not up to other people to say. However kids can read from age 4/5. I wouldn’t be happy taking my kid round to a house with ‘fuck’ written on the wall.

Papadonut · 28/02/2025 11:56

I'd be polite but I would raise an eyebrow. But you do you. I am sure you don't like what I put in my home either.

Tooearlytothink · 28/02/2025 11:54

I would judge, although not for the swearing but for the quotes on the wall in the first place 🤣 That's not your concern though - it's your home so what you like is what matters!

orangesandlemonssaythebellsofstclements · 28/02/2025 11:54

They're immature and a bit "look how quirky and different I am". Sorry.

And they're not even that quirky or different, and will be even less so as the years pass. It won't be long till they're even making you cringe.

Movinghouseatlast · 28/02/2025 11:53

Yes, I would with young children in the house. It's vulgar and inappropriate in my opinion. It would make me wonder if you commonly swear in front of them.

To be honest I think those signs are a crap anyway, not at all eccentric, just a bit silly and puerile.

GreenCandleWax · 28/02/2025 11:52

They come over as trying a bit too hard to be wacky and "eccentric". But if that is your intention go for it.

mondaytosunday · 28/02/2025 11:52

Yea that's pretty naff and if you were a uni student maybe but not something I'd expect to see on a grown ups' walls'! So yes I guess I would judge!

Lentilweaver · 28/02/2025 11:51

Yes, I'd judge because I find this so naff. But I would not say a word.

MermaidMummy06 · 28/02/2025 11:50

I think 'bogan', which I assume is our version of 'naff'.
